Ubuntu 10.04, nVidia GeForce 9400, driver ver 195.36.15.When I log in, the system always comes up in 800x600 mode. I went into the NVIDIA X Server Settings page and changed it to my preferred setting of 1152x864. I hit Apply, then Save to X Configuration File (with correct root password).All is well until restarting. Then it reverts back. The update doesn't stick. How can I make this the permenant setting?
View 3 RepliesI have what I think is a pretty eay question. I'm trying to set the screen resolution of my new 10.10 installation to 1920x1080. The monitor only supports up to 1024x768, but i would like more area. I've done this before but I forgot how i did it. In the end the screen spilled off to the sides and when I ran my cursor over to that section it would disply it. I have a feeling that i need to edit my xorg.conf file, but my nvidia drive has some new mode types and i figured I'd ask before making random changes.

I need to set my resolution to 1280x1024. Problem is, that the NVIDIA X Server Settings does not display such a resolution and I want to use that! My monitor is an LCD capable of upto 1280x1024 75HZ resolution. I'm using Ubuntu 10.10. I did the xrandr command to check what resolutions are available and its output was:

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have installed the Nvidia drivers on my desktop using [URL] according to the Debian way. Everything seems to be fine except the resolution. The best it will let me choose is something like 600x480. I have searched and most of what is suggested around the web is to change xorg.conf. I have tried this using different setting suggested but nothing is working. I did not have a xorg.conf file so I created one with the setting suggested on the Debian wiki.

First off, let me say: I'm a long time Linux hobbyist and recently installed Fedora 12. I've been looking (some say "lurking") around these forums for a bit after I loaded it up and let me say: Leigh, You're an amazing young man! Keep up the great work! I've a question: I've just put together a hobby computer: Pentuim 4, with 1 Gig of RAM and a Nvidia Geforce5700LE. When I install Fedora from a fresh install, everything works great: nice screen resolution, good graphics, etc. but no 3d or acceleration, so I'm very limited on my programs.
So I decided I need to upgrade my Nvidia driver. I followed Leigh's Nvidia setup guide after installing Fedora 12 (all four steps!) everything seemed to go fine, but when I reboot, I quickly see the Nvidia splash screen, but the screen then goes blank. Well, not really blank, I can see what appears to be a kind of cross-hatch pattern, plus I can see what should be my mouse cursor on screen (it also is a square shaped pattern). I suspect it may be at a screen resolution that my monitor doesn't support. Once there, the computer pretty much doesn't do anything else. Usually I can break into the x driver loading and go to the command prompt, but this latest time I can't even do that.
I'm trying to change the output resolution of a HTPC that's connected to a 720p plasma from (an auto set) 1024x768 to 1280x720 so that the output is the correct 16:9 ratio for the plasma.The HTPC is running Ubuntu 11.04 with a GeForce 7600GT and is connected via VGA cable to the plasma. The plasma automatically detects the PC input as XGA.
The worst effect of this is 16:9 media (video clips etc) looks really stretched out with the letterbox bars on the top and bottom and icons in general don't look square.Nvidia driver has been activated via Additional Drivers but the message reads;

Should I be looking for a way to disable whatever the Ubuntu driver is so the proprietry one is in use?Under nVidia Xserver settings I don't have an option for a 1280x720 resolution, the next closest resolution for 16:9 is 1360x768 but then portions of the output are no longer visible on the plasma.Could it be as simple as using the DVI output (not the VGA) from the graphics card to the plasma to get a correct reading of the input. Still, I wouldn't have a setting for 1280x720
I'm using Ubuntu 9.10 64-bit with a GTS 250. After installing the restricted driver from NVIDIA's website I get stuck at a 640x320 resolution. The only other option I get is 320x240. The resolution I need is 1680x1050.
I've also encountered this problem with a 9600GT.
I just bought a new 24inch monitor that supports the resolution 1920x1200. Unfortunately, the nvidia-settings dialog does not have this resolution as an option (currently running on 1920x1080). The graphics card is Geforce 6200 (should support the wanted resolution), and the monitor is connected with the VGA cable (if that matters).
View 7 Replies View Relatedi have been able to get my webcam working in Skype by doing the LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype command and installing v4l2ucp but it doesn't stick. So next time i boot it is like i didn't do anything. I have read a few things on it on this forum and i am not sure what to do next. Is there a conflict with my nvidia video card? I only installed Ubuntu 10 a week ago i think.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSince I upgraded to 9.04 a while back I have had this annoying screen resolution issue. Every time I log into my Ubuntu system the screen resolution defaults to 1280x1024. My preferred desktop resolution is normally set at 1680x1050. So each time I log in I have to open the Nvidia control panel and manually set the screen resolution to 1680x1050. Even after logging out it will still go right back to 1280x1024 when I log back in.
But the funny this is I am almost positive the login screen resolution is 1680x1050 because the picture is crisp unlike the blurry and distorted picture at 1028x1024. I have tried everything from manually editing the x.org conf file to running the Nvidia control panel as root. Nothing saves my preferred resolution of 1680x1050. My Nvidia driver is version 190.42 and Ubuntu version is 9.04. The monitor is an ASUS VW192T+ which is detected by the Nvidia driver.
I'm a first timer on Ubuntu and I have a little problem with my Nvidia graphic card. After lots of attempts I can't get the 1280x1024 resolution that both of my monitors have. Instead I'm running on 1024x768.Is this a way to fix it?

The maximum resolution that the driver would allow was 640x480. Searching through the X logs (/var/log/Xorg.0.log), I found the following message:

Running Ubuntu 10.04 with an Acer wide monitor, 1600x900. The graphics card is a Gefoce 6200. When I run nvidia-settings I can select 1600-900 and it looks fine. I can "Save to X configuration file" and get no errors. However if I log out and back in, the resolution changes to 1360x768 which causes the tool bar at the top to be mostly somewhere to the left of and above the monitor. It makes life rather difficult when you can't get to the Applications and Places menus. I also tried nvidia-configure but it created essentially the same xorg.conf file.

1600x900 is the native mode of this monitor so the driver shouldn't be getting any errors if it trys to set that resolution.
I just set up my dad's pc with Debian Sqeeze. It runs perfectly fine and after trying a lot of distro's Debian is the only one that will not crash or freeze up X. Now we're forced to using my own 17" monitor instead of his 19" wide screen since the max res is 1280 x 1024 in Sqeeze. What he needs is 1360 x 768. I found out in the wiki that xorg.conf needs to be edited. Since the file does not exist it needs to be created by running "Xorg -configure" in tty after stopping GDM. when running the "Xorg -configure" command this is the output;

It's an Intel Sandy Bridge integrated graphics chip. I've tried running "Xorg:1 -configure" as mentioned in a forum but that simply gives me a "unknown command" answer.
I am new to Ubuntu (Karmic with GNOME). I have a Samsung LED UEB7020, with an Asrock ION 330 BD player feeding to a Onkyo TXSR607, AV rec. The other day I downloaded NVidia v180.25, which was very useful, because it immediately solved an earlier teething problem of no sound. However immediately upon re-booting and ever since, the screen size is too big for the TV, meaning that I can not see the top, bottom, side and left of the display by about 2 inches either way. I have checked the NVidia resolution settings and they are correct for the TV, ie 1920 by 1080.

in my media pc i have a geforce 8400, attached to a 32" 720p lcd using a dvi to vga adapter, and it is miss detecting the resolution it detects the resolution as 1080p, so when i try to enable full gpu scaling it gets the resolution wrong resulting no image on the screen. how do i manualy set the "back end resolution"

my laptop screen has 1900x1280 (native resolution) and my second monitor has 1600x1080
After browsing the forums and messing around with drivers I managed to get the resolution up to 1600x1080 (from 1000x800 at install) on the laptop screen. No luck at all with the second monitor. I currently have it connected with both VGA and DVI.
my understanding is I need to use twin view to setup the second monitor. I've read several of the earlier posts but haven't been able to get it to work. Here is my current xorg.conf file:

Having been using squeeze on my primary system for some time, I decided to install it on my media center PC. After doing a clean install I lost sound (another post) and my maximum video resolution dropped to 1280x1024. I was previously getting 1920x1080 (native) resolution under lenny on this box. So it's a mystery to me why I'm not getting that now. As you can see, the nvidia module is loaded:

Is there a way to fix this without having to buy a new card? I've read that the GeForce 7100 is pretty crappy, but I've got no money to space at the moment.
I recently purchased a cheap computer to use for everyday tasks. It came pre-loaded with Windows 7. The monitor I am using is a Vizio VX20L. It's native resolution is 1366X768. I have no problem with the screen resolution in Windows 7 but in Ubuntu, I am having some issues. I have the propriatary Nvidia driver installed in Ubuntu but for some reason I cannot get the screen resolution right. I am currently using a resolution of 1360x768 and the right part of my desktop is not on the screen.
I have tried to adjust the screen size using the monitor settings, but I still cannot get the whole screen to show up. If I set the resolution to Auto in the NVIDIA X Server Settings, it defaults to 1280X1024 and I can see my whole desktop, but it is streeeeetched. Here is some relevant information pertaining to my system:

I have 9.10 64 on a HP TX2020 laptop, with NVIDIA GeForce 6150. I can't get twin monitor to work. When I go into Nvidia X Server, it doesn't recognise the tv over s-video. According to a lot of the forums I've searched, there should be an option to enable xinerama, which there's not. I know I should study this more and I will, but getting simple things to work takes so long on this OS and I'd really just like to see a movie.

I've been having big problems getting 9.10 to work with a Geforce4 MX-4000 card. I know it is not a hardware problem because I've got a dual boot win xp/9.10 setup and the video card works very well under win xp. The monitor is a Samsung P2250. The issue is that the highest resolution available after installing the recommended nvidia 96 driver is 800x600, the same as that before the driver was installed. This is very frustrating because the monitor requires 1920x1080 I'm not sure whether the driver is at fault or the xorg.conf settings.
Should I try installing the nvidia site drivers? I've checked out several forum threads on xorg.conf settings but I'm really not sure how to go on this. What I need is an entry level guide to setting up xorg.conf. The manual here is not that user friendly.
