General :: Video Resolution Out Of Range Change Setting To Recommended Resolution 1280x1024
Oct 14, 2010When I boot my computer I get this message: Warning Pc video resolution is out of range Change setting to recommended resolution 1280x1024 @60mh So I hit ctrl alt f1 I typed in Sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg Nothing happens. It's been very frustrating because with everything that I've looked up it says that it's suppose to guide me through something. I desperately need my computer for school.

Dec 6, 2010I have what I think is a pretty eay question. I'm trying to set the screen resolution of my new 10.10 installation to 1920x1080. The monitor only supports up to 1024x768, but i would like more area. I've done this before but I forgot how i did it. In the end the screen spilled off to the sides and when I ran my cursor over to that section it would disply it. I have a feeling that i need to edit my xorg.conf file, but my nvidia drive has some new mode types and i figured I'd ask before making random changes.

Ubuntu :: 10.10 - Setting Resolution To 1280x1024 With NVidia Driver
Dec 21, 2010I need to set my resolution to 1280x1024. Problem is, that the NVIDIA X Server Settings does not display such a resolution and I want to use that! My monitor is an LCD capable of upto 1280x1024 75HZ resolution. I'm using Ubuntu 10.10. I did the xrandr command to check what resolutions are available and its output was:

Debian Configuration :: Nvidia Driver Resolution Setting Not Working
Jun 5, 2011I have installed the Nvidia drivers on my desktop using [URL] according to the Debian way. Everything seems to be fine except the resolution. The best it will let me choose is something like 600x480. I have searched and most of what is suggested around the web is to change xorg.conf. I have tried this using different setting suggested but nothing is working. I did not have a xorg.conf file so I created one with the setting suggested on the Debian wiki.

Jun 11, 2010Ubuntu 10.04, nVidia GeForce 9400, driver ver 195.36.15.When I log in, the system always comes up in 800x600 mode. I went into the NVIDIA X Server Settings page and changed it to my preferred setting of 1152x864. I hit Apply, then Save to X Configuration File (with correct root password).All is well until restarting. Then it reverts back. The update doesn't stick. How can I make this the permenant setting?

OpenSUSE Hardware :: How To Change Resolution To Specific Setting - 11.2
Feb 20, 2010Is there a way to change my resolution to something specific? I was trying to make my display "less-widescreen" when I accidently made it completely changed.
From the sax2 command, there is only 1400*1050 and 1600*1200, both that are not what I'm looking for and messes up my display. Now, I can't change it back to the original, much less the one I'm looking for (1600*900).

I cannot change my resolution guys. I have installed the nvidia drivers but still; I cannot go higher than 1024x768. All I want is 1280x1024 or higher. Oct 4, 2014Currently my display is set to 1280x960 at 60Hz, but my monitor supports 1920x1080, which is what I would like to have. Preferences -> Monitor Settings (lxrandr) does not change anything & does not show my desired resolution either. I tried using the Nvidia propietary drivers but whenever I try to switch to them from xorg.conf the X display can't start. right now I am using the nouveau driver. I've seen some xrandr commands but so far haven't been able to figure out what I need to do.
I am on Debian 7.6.0 (Wheezy) amd64:

Jun 8, 2011Whenever I login or restart the computer, my resolution gets reset. I think it may have to do with my setup being connected to a 18.5" HDTV. Is there a way to set custom resolutions in the OS, so that Nvidia and OpenSUSE can recognize them?

Nov 13, 2010It does this all the time whenever I reboot and I hadn't rebooted my PC in months simply because it's a GOD DAMN pain to figure this crap out. I need a REAL fix.
My computer turns off and boots, it goes directly into Recovery Menu. It refuses to boot normally. I load low graphics mode, it doesn't even let me make changes to the configuration file, OR let me have ONE session in low graphics mode. I've tried reconfiguring xserver, re-installing nvidia drivers, STILL the same effing garbage. It's starting to **** me off. I'm mostly a Linux noob, and I hate trying all these "tips" that don't work to make my stupid display work. I use gnome. Any advice, tips whatever to make this work? If you need something, I'll try my best to get it but I'm on my other computer right now so displaying my configuration files will be a pain. :/ Before I installed vesa, low graphics mode wouldn't work because it said the vesa module didn't exist and it also said no screens.

May 30, 2011i tried to get some glx support to my X11/xfce4 so i read some threads and i just wanted to try out nvidia-settings to check out how far i've come. it told me to run nvidia-xconfig (which i did) afterwards X refused to start at all, so i copied back the old xorg.conf.i know that X has changed a year ago or so and xorg.conf isnt really of any use (so that file is "like" empty, just three lines or so).whatever, now i cannot login to my old xfce4 environment, i get the loginbox and type in password, after 2 secs i get a black screen with some errors (blinks away after half a sec) a black screen with a cursor and then get back to the login screen.

Dec 14, 2010I'm running ubuntu 10.10 I have a Samsung Syncmaster 205BW Monitor and I needed a graphic accelerator to run my science software and to view full screen videos. so I installed the NVIDIA 96.43.19 Driver as recomanded by unbuntu. Well the server installs OK but doesn't completely communicate with my monitor, I'm using GeForce4 MX 440 with AGP8X/AGP/SSE2 Graphic card. I'm unable to set the correct Resolution which is 1680X1050, the driver only list 1280X1024 and doesn't list the correct one.Also the driver Crashes when I try to set the CPU scaling, it's locked on stretch mode. Also when ubuntu loads X it doesn't accept the Xserver settings I have entered in the driver Set Up.The additional driver screen also says the Driver is active but not in use. I sent a bug report to NVIDIA but they never answered me back.

Jul 4, 2010Currently Monitor 0 is the TV (S-video). I want it to be my Monitor. My attempts to change this are failing Seams I'm just tripping over some little thing:
Unbuntu 10.04
Graphics - NVidia 7600
Displays - 2
- Samsung LCD (DVI)
- TV (S-Video)
I do not see how to switch the primary within NVidia's xserver app. Background Info: In order to get the TV out working, I disconnected the Monitor and booted the system - The TV-out then worked for the first time. Reconnected the monitor and rebooted again - both worked..but TV is Monitor0. All other options failed me when I set this up the first time

May 26, 2011I recently installed the Nvidia proprietary drivers and I have a problem starting gdm. Xserver fails, only throwing a warning concerned to xkbcomp, something about ralt having two symbols... but just a warning anyway. Then, after waiting the screen flash between the tty and a black screen a few times;
i'm on the tty, from where I can "startx" without problem. I tried using the nv driver and gdm worked.. so i think it has relation with the nvidia drivers... If I start gdm from the tty, instead of using the startx command, then gdm appears but if I try to log in.. all freezes up.. Here's my xorg.conf generated by nvidia-xconfig: [URL]

Aug 30, 2011xserver-common (2:1.10.4-1) was upgrade today in Sid to xserver-common (2:1.11.0-1) breaking my nvidia driver (NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-280.13.run). There is a temporary fix as showen below.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: NVIDIA XServer Settings - Black Screen Of Death
Dec 11, 2010I had Ubuntu 10.04 running fine. Then I got curious about NVIDIA XServer.
"ATI Technologies Inc RV380 [Radeon X600 (PCIE)]" - Video Card
I opened it up, clicked a settings change, and said OK.
It said you need to update your blah blah blah.
Then it said blah blah blah doesn't exist.
Then it said it would create it for me.
Then I said REBOOT!
Now I get a black screen of death.
The only way I can get anything to happen on my monitor that comes from this computer is to boot into the Install Disk and say "TRY UBUNTU".

General :: Screen Resolution Low After Nvidia Driver Install?
Nov 15, 2010I am running Fedora 14 on a Dell Lat D630 laptop.
When originally installing my resolution was a perfect 1440x900.
I then installed the Nvidia drivers with:
YUM install kmod-nvidia
This worked fine, I tried out Super Tux 2 to test it and I do indeed have 3D acceleration now. The only problem is my resolution has gone way down. The Nvidia software states its still 1440x900 but it definitely is not... And my monitor is down as (Not in front of it right now so can�t remember exactly) Generic or not detected... Is that what's causing the issue?
So to summarize, I have 3D hardware acceleration, the appropriate Nvidia drivers, it's just my resolution and the fact the Nvidia software is lying about it...

Jun 7, 2010I've installed Debian (Lenny) on my pc, with geForce 8500 GT, two monitor (LCD + CRT). i've correctly installed the driver i can enter in the nvidia's setup but:
1) the best resolution for my CRT (Sony Brillance 109P) is 640x480
2) video on LCD (LG Flatron L222WS) is no good bat I can setting different resolution
3) I can't save the XConfig cause i don't understand what permission I must have for writing on 'etc' folder

Jul 31, 2011My old xp is too slow, so I am intending on re-installing from scratch. I will first raid 0 my drives. Then install XP, followed by Ubuntu. From browsing on net it seems many people have problems with dual booting. (I did several years back). Any simple Free boot managers that are tried and tested. Can/will do some editing of Boot manager if required.
