Jan 18, 2010Previously work normal. Started from some time ago, after reboot the server, the network card cannot be automatically started. Need to go into YAST's wired network which will activate the network card. Having checked 'chkconfig', the 'network' is on. Where can I check if they is any error log about auto enabling the network card?

I am sure I missing something from my xorg.conf but at this point I am not sure what I have been searching on this for days to no avail. From the log the only thing that looks like is a problem is it doesn't load the keyboard and mouse but it gets loaded later on in the file.

Aug 23, 2010I have Debian 5.0.3 and I've had a lot of trouble installing Linsys WMP600N PCI card - Ralink chipset - 2860. I had it installed in the board, before I installed/compiled Debian. What I'm thinking I should have done was chosen Desktop and Laptop during the guided install. I tried expert install, but I was over-whelmed with options. Anyways, I tried NDISwrapper in many different ways. My last tries showed that the driver and device was working. No matter what I did, I would never get an interface with a wireless extension. I couldn't find any useful information anywhere, including Ubuntu forums - I'm sure you think I'm stupid or evil.
I eventually figured I would get the drivers directly from Ralink website. [URL] The one that looked like it would work (RT2860PCI/mPCI/CB/PCIe(RT2760/RT2790/RT2860/RT2890) would error out when I would try to extract anything. I used 2nd one (RT2860WebUI) which worked. If anyone does use it, be sure to read all documentation that is included, including the README. After I was done installing/compiling it, I got ra0 interface and could see my router.
I couldn't connect to it because I use WPA2 and that wasn't an option for encryption. I will work on that later. I wanted to share this information with anyone who might need this.

This probably means that the CD-ROM was not put in the drive. If so you can insert it and try again

I don't have an installation cd-rom! I put the .iso file onto a memory stick, inserted it into my old computer (which i will turn into a server later) , restarted it and got past the first two slides and got this error? Do I have to put the iso on a cd-rom?

Mar 7, 2010I installed Mangler and one of its requirements was pulse-audio. I installed pulse-audio everything worked great except i couldn't get sound out of wow if i started mangler first and vice-versa. I then found a version of Mangler that worked with alsa. So i uninstalled mangler and pulse-audio, installed mangler-alsa. Everything works great now. The problem is when i uninstalled Pulse-audio i lost all my sliders in Yast > Hardware > Sound > other > volume. The only thing that shows up is master volume > Test. My sound works great just can't adjust anything. How do i get my sliders back. I would like some advice before i screw something up. Sep 2, 2010I'm configuring a new Centos 5.5 server in replacement of an old W2K server.The topology of our network is simple : one file/dhcp/dns relay server and workstations (PC's and some MAC's) plus network printers and scanners.All the workstations have dynamic IP addresses (easier because a lot of 'dynamic' changes : new persons with their own laptop, ...) and the server and printers/scanners have fixed IP addresses.I edited the dhcpd.conf (see here underneath), I have the file dhcpd.leases but it doesn't start !

Ubuntu :: Installed New Gfx Card - Can't Start X
Feb 5, 2011I have a media centre running mythbuntu 10.10, with an Athlon X2 2400 in it. I've just replaced my aging nVidia GeForce 6200 with an nVidia gt430. After restarting the box with the new card in it, and an old VGA monitor plugged in X won't start properly. It fails with "Screens found but no valid configuration" or similar. I removed the old xorg.conf and tried restarting, and it will actually go into X, but when I try to run nvidia-settings, it tells me I'm not using the nVidia driver.
I then tried deactivating the nvidia driver and reactivating it, then using sudo nvidia-xconfig, but when rebooting I get the same error as above. dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg seems to no longer do anything i.e. if I delete xorg.conf and run this, no new xorg.conf is generated. I'm at a bit of a loss as to how to get the new video card working properly. I'm going to put the box back together and plug it back into the flat screen tv and see if it all works. no xorg.conf allows me into X, but without being able to configure with nvidia-settings. running nvidia-xconfig gives me an xorg.conf, but won't allow X to start...

Feb 24, 2011My vga card died, so I replaced it with an ASUS EAH5670 1GB card. The computer starts up normally in Windows xp, but when I want to boot up in ubuntu, I choose ubuntu, then I get a series of upgrades or recovery modes, I always just choose the top one, then the ubuntu screen flashes up for about 1 second, then I get a black screen for a few seconds, then a message telling me the monitor is going to sleep!
What do I do to get back into ubuntu?

Ive finally got the wireless PCI card running using Ifdown then Ifup from a console, ( using ndiswrapper) I need this to happen while booting up so the wireless is automatically started so I can do away with this routine everytime. The PC is for a friend who is not too savvy on PC's. what script I'd need to run to get this to work? I know that if there was ever any change to kernel it would have to be reset.

Apr 28, 2010I'm running VideoLan (VLC) under Ubuntu 9.1 (Karmic) (64-bit) with a Haupaugge-150 card. Right now when I want to get the TV feed in through the coax, I first have to run "ivtv-tune -c3" to set the channel for cable.
I've tried adding a line to the vlc.config but no joy. Googling found an answer for Fedora but it doesn't match the files I'm seeing in those directories for Ubuntu.
What I'd like would to have ivtv set the channel automatically at boot or start-up.

It's not showing up in synaptic and using apt-get I get the error message in the title.I have 2.6.31-22-server headers but for some reason when I boot into 2.6.31-22 the OS can't see my 3ware cards and, obviously, the arrays they control. So, I can't use 2.6.31-22 yet.
