General :: Couldn't Start Mysql Services On Debian Lenny?
Oct 12, 2010
i'm new to Debian os and currently want to install php5 apache2 and mysql 5.1. But ive got problem to start the mysql services. The error on command prompt as belows:
On my debian web server I curently have ImageMagick 6.3.7 08/07/09 Q16 since this is an old version of imagemagick i wanted to upgrade my system that still runs etch, and afterwards upgrade imagemagick. I can not see what version the current lenny imagemagick package has, but I assume it is newer then 6.3.7, no?
When i ugraded I found out that my apt-sources used stable rather than etch. So I already had a mix of lenny and etch I suppose. I then had > cat /etc/debian_version 4.0 Before I upgraded I changed my apt sources from stable to etch, updated the package-tools and did a dist-upgrade (for details, I followed these instructions). After restarting I have still 4.0 as debian version. Also uname -r is 2.6.17. How can I do a correct update?.
Also my services were not started (ftp, ssh, apache2), so I asked my hoster to start the ssh service. This morning everything was up again, but it seems like nobody there have had a look at this. How do I absolutely ensure that my ssh service is start at boot. It is a remote webserver, so I need at least this service to be running.
I'm using debian 5 x64 with xfce.Is there a way to configure (start/stop/restart) services (especially Apache2, mySQL and PHP) using a graphical or cli tool? I tried to use sysv-rc, sysv-rc-conf, rcconf and rc-conf in the terminal but Bash didn't find them (Although Synaptic show that sysv-rc is installed).
I can't get mysql to update from lenny (mysql-5.0) to squeeze (5.1). apt tries to start the server but comes up with some kind of configuration script error.
I have a nearly 10 years old iMac at home and installed Lenny on (somehow, I had to thrash Mac OS 9.2 :-P). Everything was successful until now, but on entering "startkde", the screen fills withkpersonalizer: cannot connect to X serverlines. Upon looking at other threads here I tried mdetect, installing X11... but to no avail
I have been fighting with this for days. I upgraded from etch to lenny. I tried installing mysql-5.1. I have uninstalled, reinstalled, updated, upgraded, many, *many*, times. It just stubbornly refuses to work.
I've a little Server and wanna start the services (postfix, apache, etc.) without root. My problem is, that I've installed GroupOffice and I allways got errors about permisions in some folder. When I took a look, some of the folder the apache created were from root some from www-data. After some searches in the Internet I've read that only the root user is allowed to start a Service at Ports 1-1024 or something like that...
I've already searched for programs which give the rights to the applications / unlocks them with root for a certain application ... but I've no more idea what words to search for.
Where is that **itt implemented? Is it possible to disable that?
How can I start the services without giving them root privileges?! It's a security issue after all.
The upgrade actually went pretty well, except for what looks like a new "feature" to mysql-server-5.1. But I post here, because the issue seemed to be in "/etc/hosts" file. If it should really be somewhere else, feel free to move it. The problem is that I don't understand what this means. What potential problems do I have without a "127.0.1.1"? Or could this have been effected by some change to the "users" table in mysql? This mythtv server "musem" is my main machine, and is being remotely accessed by the Linux box next to my TV.
Been working with this problem for over a week now and has come to a dead end, I have installed pureFTPD with MySQL on Debian 5 Lenny 64bit. My problem is I can't login with the users in the sql-database, but for some strange reason, I'm allowed to loggin as anonymous. Unix users can't login either.
I have followed the guide on: [URL]..
- Created a ftpgroup and ftpuser. - Created a database ftpd - Created a user vhosts and given access to ftpd db My configurations files /etc/pure-ftpd/auth/30mysql Code: /etc/pure-ftpd/db/mysql.conf /etc/pure-ftpd/db/mysql.conf
I have moved from a raspberry pi to an olimex LIME A20. I have managed to get everything working correctly except mediatomb. I have a USB drive attached, I believe that mediatomb is trying to read the drive before it's mounted leaving me with an empty database.
After boot I can create the mediatomb database which works until I reboot the computer. What can I try to delay the mediatomb services start?
I have been tearing my hair out with this. As part of a backend perl script i am holding the Epoch time as session data using apache session and mysql so i can delete sessions after an expiry period. When I retrieve the time it is about three months old even when i only just set it. The code example below best describes the problem:
i was trying to use gnome and kde but i don't like them. I tried xfce and it seem to fit my needs but.My computer is used to be powered on for a weeks. While time passes, a process xfdesktop begin to use more and more memory and to free RAM i need to log out and log in again.
I tried squeeze yesterday on my virtual machine and it has 4.6 and seem not to have that bug, RAM usage is static(yes it still works when i write this and have memory usage 34492k, which is not changing for an hours of usage already), also 4.6 is MUCH better than 4.4.
i already tried adding squeeze to "sources.list" but i can see too many dependencies which should be upgraded if i install 4.6, i'm beginning to afraid it can crash entire GUI(or entire system, i can see there is libc6 required to be updated).
in my centos5.3 i am able to login in terminal but while logging in gui shows error as follows-- Couldn't start x server on card 0 i fired the command as follows- yum groupinstall "X Window System" shows illegal instruction
Whenever I start up my laptop running Fedora 14, I notice that it says that it is failing to connect to my default wireless network since the wireless card is not activated. Since it appears that the wireless card is not activated until the NetworkManager service is started, is there anyway for me to set NetworkManager to start before this check is made? Boot message log is attached. [URL]
I'm installing a file server on Lenny (Samba on RAID5, nothing exotic)
First, I installed on a basic SATA drive, to check everything else in the system was recognized correctly. Success.
Then, I added my 3405 Adaptec board, with a 3 drive RAID5, and reinstalled, still on the lone SATA disk.
Install runs ok, shows correctly the 3405 board, detects the logical drive alongside with the SATA drive. Smooth. I install Lenny on the SATA drive, planning to use the RAID5 for later partitioning and data storage. During install, the SATA disk is shown as SCSI-1 and the RAID5 disk as SCSI-2. Again, install completes correctly.
But on reboot and after selecting the default config, the system complains it can't find /dev/sda1!
If I remove the 3405 board, Lenny boots fine.
Is the presence of the Adaptec board and RAID5 drive changing the numbering of the disks, so that the SATA disk is no longer seen as /dev/sda1 ?
I need to start an application (graphical) when the PC start, even before anybody login, and use/launch a specific user. Now only can do this manually; when gdm starts, switch to any text tty [ie. Ctrl + Alt + F1], then I login into the special user, start a X server, export the DISPLAY environment variable, and start the application.
With this steps: Code: $X :1 -verbose -nr -nolisten tcp & # Maybe Metacity -> $ metacity $export DISPLAY=:1 $JavaApp & Now i need put this steps (script) in some place to launch the app automatically, and with and specific user [ie. manager].
How can I made it? Maybe in init.d? or an special xinitrc? And how can start the app with the specific user? And, if is possible, who can stop the app when the system going turn off? I have Debian 5.0 and a beginner knowledge of shell script.
Vmware tells me it cannot start services.I believe the issue is tied to permissions because the message indicated the log with the full details was located in /tmp/vmware-root/setup-4772.log but when I go there I receive a message telling me I do not have permission to the directory and there's a lock symbol on the directory from the File Browser utility. What do I need to do to unlock the folder and get vmware working again ?
my iwlist scan is normal. ethernet connection ok, wirless not working but does seem to receive. wifi radar lists my router ssid. Does this say I have the correct router for my wireless is my question? I am also getting this error message with this system on KDE, LENNY. From KWLAN a wpasupplicant front end.
"you do not have permissions to start pppd or pppd was not found. Dial up networking will not work."
I installed LaMp 2 days ago. First everything works; But until yesterday, I can't start anymore mysql server : it failed each time.
When I look at the status :
Code: Select allsystemctl status mysql Failed to get D-Bus connection: Erreur inconnue -1
It's like it can't generate mysqld.sock
Code: Select all/usr/bin/mysqladmin: connect to server at 'localhost' failed error: 'Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2)' Check that mysqld is running and that the socket: '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' exists!
I keep reading man and trying to find something I didn't configure correctly, but I can't find nothing.
Since upgrading from Wheezy to Jessie I have not been able to start the MySQL-server. When I do a "systemctl start mysql" I get the following answer on the console:
Job for mysql.service failed. See 'systemctl status mysql.service' and 'journalctl -xn' for details. Entering 'systemctl status mysql.service' the answer is: ● mysql.service - LSB: Start and stop the mysql database server daemon Loaded: loaded (/etc/init.d/mysql) Active: failed (Result: exit-code) since Don 2015-06-18 18:35:41 CEST; 4min 1s ago Process: 11272 ExecStart=/etc/init.d/mysql start (code=exited, status=1/FAILURE)
syslog and hostname.err don't show any pertinent messages.
I had a hard drive failure and have recovered (rsync) my backup root filesystem onto a new drive. This all seems to be fine, except that at least two services no longer start: mysql and apache2.I can start successfully both through
although mysql throws a warning about Upstart. Neither start automatically. My system is Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS x86_64. Part of my reolution actions has involved a kernel update to 2.6.32-27-generic.I have tried to resolve the mysql issue first:
Code:
sudo update-rc.d -f mysql remove sudo update-rc.d mysql defaults
Code:
sudo apt-get remove --purge mysql-server sudo apt-get install mysql-server adding them /etc/init.d/... start commands to /etc/init.d/rc.local script and to a session startup script
checking the services are in rcX.d (using bum and sysv-rc-conf) Ensuring there's a .conf file in /etc/init (which there is).I can't see anything in syslog which would suggest if the system has tried to start these but failed, but then I may be looking in the wrong place. I think they're not starting at all. I wonder if it's something to do with the restore, perhaps symlinks?
I was installing zabbix and had to make some mysql stuff work... couln't remember my mysql password, so figured i'd uninstall mysql and reinstall. so i did:
[code]...
i was admittedly stoned when doing this, but it has uninstall a LOT of other stuff. including xbmc. no problem, i'm an idiot but i'll just reinstall xbmc and the other stuff
[code]...
how i can get this running again or would it just be easier to reinstall.
I thought that the problem is in the phpMyAdmin not in the mysql. But now i think different. It seems that the problem is right in the mysql. I think that there was no root user, when mysql was freshly installed. Unfortunately i did everything i can find on internet (some tutorials) but they don`t helped me at all, maybe i fu**ed up the mysql service. So i reinstalled it, and when i want to start it there is no file mysql.sock and i get the following:
linux-nepg:~ # service mysql restart Restarting service MySQL Shutting down service MySQL done Starting service MySQL warning: /var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock didn't appear within 30 seconds
I installed MySQL and I want the service to (always) start. When I google I always find the same answer; Goto System > Administration > Services. But I don have it. Administration for me goes from 'Printing' to 'Software Sources', so there's no 'Services'...
Also should I be able to start it from a shell, but I also can find that. (I have no /etc/rc.d/-directory and my /etc/init.d/-directory han no 'mysql'). I just started using Linux a few days ago (I only used MaxOsX and Windows before).
