I have one Asus motherboard with inbuilt HD 3300 Radeon family graphics system, I have used it with radeon and radeonhd drivers and I have xorg.conf. I tried to change card to Radeon HD 4350 but it didn't give more than terminal view, Xdm didn't start. I believed the driver would support both cards?

In Fedora 10, I cannot get to the installer because it shows these messed up strips graphics (its not due to my graphic card, my graphic card is supported 7600gt) in non-quiet install it shows logical errors and i/o errors.

I have installed the Debian squeeze testing version and since when I installed the system it didn't recognize my ethernet card, I could only install what is in the installation CD1. The system has driver for intel, but the opengl version is 2.1. How to update opengl version to 4.1. (intel 945). For ATI just download driver version 11.5 and install it. All is OK.

I'm currently using windows 7 on my computer, I have an ATI GPU and I am willing to install Ubuntu to finally rock it out. However I'm going to change my video card for a newer nVidia one in a few weeks and I'm wondering about the drivers change.. Under windows it should be quite simple however I'm quite afraid of possible issues I could have under Ubuntu. Probably (I believe and hope) everything will just work fine, simply plug and play, no conflicts, nothing at all. However I'm asking because I would like to avoid any issues, as I prefer dealing with windows one month or so more than having driver issues under ubuntu...

I'm trying to set up an HP DisplayLink USB graphic adapter on Debian 6 to be paired with the notebook's integrated Intel i915 video card. I use a custom 3.11.1 kernel in which the options for VGA arbitration, fbdev framebuffer and DisplayLink driver are enabled as built-in, not as modules.
The device works and I'm able to correctly run an X session on a DVI monitor connected to my notebook thru this USB graphic adapter. However, I'm still not able to use both the DisplayLink device and the integrated Intel i915 at the same time under X, with the purpose to extend the desktop area over the two screens, side by side.
During a boot, if the DisplayLink adapter is detected over the USB cable, the X-server's Intel driver is repudiated as shown in the logs below, and the main notebook's screen stops working with X. (nonetheless, it still functions on the "Alt-F1" text terminal).

Is there any way to get libmp3lame to work with ffmpeg without me having to completely recompile ffmpeg? View 5 Replies View RelatedMy laptop is an HP Pavilion dv6 3078-tx. It is was a great laptop when it was running windows 7 but when I tried installing Ubuntu, I slowly began to hate it more and more. The issue is with the ATI and Intel switchable graphics card. Ubuntu installs fine and things seem to be great but I cant use the better graphics effects in ubuntu. I installed the driver that ubuntu provides for ATI and it didnt work and ubuntu booted into a terminal etc.. and I had to put it back to the way it was before. After sometime researching on the internet I know the problem is with the swtichable graphics.
Unfortunatley there is no option to turn off switchable graphic in my bios and hp arent much of a help. I dont know what to do now ? Is there any way to get switchable graphics to w ork with linux, is there way to get version of the bios that lets me disable it ? any variations of ubuntu or linux that it works with. I would prefer to use the ATI if i have to disable one or the other cause Im usually running on ac power anyways.
I installed ubuntu but when I first tried to login with my correct passwords it goes in a loop and prompt me to log in again. I went to recovery mode and selected safe mode then I was able to log in without any further prompts. As a result of what happened, I unlocked the login screen and changed the setup to allow me to log in automatically and in safe mode only. I am now stuck to login in safe mode only. I tried to unlock the login screen to change to default but no chance. If there is no graphic card in the PC would that have an effect on memory or login?
