I'm trying to run this on a Dell Mini 10v netbook.
I installed ardour on my F11 box, and both jack1 (0.xx, in /usr/bin) and jack2( 1.9.5, in /usr/local/bin/). Now when I try to start ardour, it balks about being unable to start jack. On the ardour settings page, I tried changing the JACK server path field from /usr/local/bin to /usr/bin, to no avail.
On the cmdline, here's what I get when I run, manually jack1 and jack2:
JACK1:
[root@localhost yati]# /usr/bin/jackd
jackd 0.118.0

jackd comes with absolutely No Warranty
This is free software, and you are welcome to redistribute it
under certain conditions; see the file copying for details .....
That prompts me to think that JACK1 is fine... but still ardour won't start up.
I just upgraded some audio programs using a ppa and now there is no sound at all,i have been using hydrogen drum machine and ardour with jack audio and now there is no sound at all.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI actually pretty much abandoned Ubuntu a few weeks back after several weeks of not getting a couple things working properly. One of the big problems is I couldn't get my line-in audio jack working to save my life (despite working flawlessly in Windows on the same machine).I have posted about this numerous times and had no luck despite many of you good people attempting to assist.Tonight, I put a live CD of Linux Mint in my machine and noticed a few of the little problems I have with Ubuntu seemed to be "fixed" with Linux Mint.
That's when it hit me that perhaps the big difference is 32 vs. 64 bit? My Ubuntu is 64 bit but the Linux Mint I tested is 32. Does anybody think that my audio problem could be as simple as getting away from Ubuntu 64 bit? Also, can anybody tell me if there is a Terminal Services Client available for Mint? I'm sure there is but it didn't seem to be in the default install..
I am not able to start JACK in realtime mode. This is a bummer. here is the error message I get:

I had Ubuntu 10.4 installed and JACK was working excellent. I noticed that gnome was a little more than what I needed so I installed the xubuntu-desktop package. After that install JACK no longer works... I run the command jackd -d alsa and I get a bus error. I did a new install from an xubuntu iso and same error.

Ardours Dev Paul Davis thinks, this is an issue with libxml2 but upgrading libxml2 and even downgrading it did not work either. With the fresh install of Fed14 2 weeks ago the Package from the repo did work very much OK. is there anything I can do?
I just installed Ubuntu 11.04 onto a Toshiba L30-10W. The built-in speakers work and the headphone jack work, but I can't get the microphone jack to work. I've tried all of the ALSA options (e.g.- options snd-hda-intel model=laptop), but none of them work.

I bought a Toshiba T135D-S1324 two days ago, and the only thing I can't get to work is for the internal speakers to automatically mute when headphones are plugged in. (Ubuntu 9.10 for AMD64 by the way.)
I have tried to add "options snd-hda-intel model=laptop probe_mask=1" to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf but that didn't work.
The jack detection box is not available under sound preferences. Alsamixer only shows PCM and Master.
"sudo cat /proc/asound/card0/codec#* | grep Codec" shows "Codec: Conexant ID 5066"
My headphone audio jack is not functioning properly. When I plug headphones in, the internal speakers go silent, but no audio is coming from the headphones.
View 1 Replies View RelatedJust curious if someone could help me with my issue, I've noticed that my internal mic doesn't work, and when I plug in headphones it stops the use of the speakers but I hear nothing through the headphones. I'm running openSUSE 11.3 and have had almost no major problems until this. I've searched around and asked a couple friends and have made absolutely no progress.

I'm at the tail end of my upgrade from Lenny to Squeeze and I think this sound issue is the last one I have.
As usual I've tried hunting for some answers but it gets very confusing when people are using KDE or PulseAudio or Ubuntu or slightly different configuration to what I have.
My config:
Debian Squeeze 2.6.32
Alsa (just because I was using that in Lenny and it was working, no other reason)
Gnome
Rhythmbox
Skype
Skype is pretty good - it has the sound configuration built in, so I say ring the speakers and it does. I say talk to the headset and it does. Rhythmbox is my music player (again just because I was using it under Lenny) however it only wants to play through the headset. I can't seem to get it to play to the speakers attached to the rear port.

installed Opensuse 11.4 onto the Fujitsu Amilo L7320GW laptop, and all works well except for the headphone jack. Sound works from the laptop speakers and when the headphones are plugged in the sound is muted from the main speakers, but no sound via the headphones.I've looked at other threads within the forum, and it appears that editing the 50-sound.conf file has helped other people, however the soundcard is a Realtek ALC655 (chipset VIA VT82xx), and l cannot see a listing for the ALC655 within the alsa/HD-Audio-Models.txtListed below is the information requested:-[URL]

The Green jack for audio of the sound card is dead. The other jacks [Blue and Pink] are not working for audio. I have them working as audio outputs in windows xp-using the Realtek interface. How can I do the same in Ubuntu?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI can't run Ardour GTK2 in Ubuntu 10.04. JACK control is open, but sends error messages relating to not being able to connect to the JACK server whenever I try to press play.
Ardour says JACK is running in another user's profile, and I haven't even made it to the program yet. Error message also says audio controls could be messed up.
I am at the end of my tether in trying to get sound setup on my Ubuntu installation. I have tried many different 'fixes' that people have suggested, but none seem to work!
My setup is as follows:
> HP Proliant Microserver
> Ubuntu 10.10
> Zotac GT210 card
> HDMI from GFX card to AV amp
> 5GB Ram
What I want to be able to do is:
> Play music from FLAC files I have ripped in either stereo or sudo 5.1
> Play DVD iso files that I have ripped in the audio format found on the original discs (DTS etc)
I have managed to get sound working before, but only in stereo and I couldn't get it working in XBMC (not the sound from the main movie I chose anyway). I have since completely broken the sound after trying various things found on the interweb and cannot get it back.

I've got an Acer Aspire 5101 with Natty on it and everything works so far, but I can't start Muse. It says: "Muse failed to find a jack audio server". At the bottom it also says: "...if Jack was started check if it was started as the same user as Muse". This might be the issue. But how can I check this? BTW: Jackd has been installed and I am a Member of the Audio Group.
I am new to Ubuntu and don't know how to fix this. I got this Notebook for free, because my Brother wanted to dispose it as it didn't worked properly after he reinstalled xp. Only the dvd-drive is broken, the rest is in really good condition for such an old thing. After a lot of trial and error I could finally install Natty from USB.
I have Ardour GTK2 , and I am trying to record from a mic, AND IT JUST WONT WORK

I am a simple musician who bought a laptop that didn't have windows, nor can I afford a Windows license (being a proper poor musician and all). I have an M-Audio KeyRig 49 midi controller that I would like to get some sound out of. How might I do this? I have jack, qjackctl, qsynth, et al but forget qsynth... I can't even get jack to start! I just need to hook this thing up to a piano sample and I'll be happy as anything. I understand that system information can be useful so here goes: Running F14... here are the jack messages (btw, ctrl C does not work when trying to copy from the jack messages window, despite the contextual menu saying it should. I have already seen the Fedora Musician's Guide [URL] which is long on theory but short on practical how-to documentation. Is there a better doc I can look at? Do I need to download some special drivers to get this midi interface working? If I plug this thing in to my friend's Mac and run GarageBand, it 'just works' (though GB's piano samples are fairly horrific considering how expensive macs are.) I already own some decent soundfonts but without working jack it seems they aren't much use.
I installed the libffado from Slackbuilds.org yesterday on my -current box, and followed the instructions in the README for configuration. After I did that jack wouldn't start at all, insisting that there were no recognized drivers, even when I had the alsa driver selected (alsa is working fine, by the way... I have sound). After doing some more research I uninstalled jack and built Jack2 (1.9.6) from source with the following configure options:
Code:
./waf configure --firewire --alsa --dbus --enable-pkg-config-dbus-service-dir
Now when I try to launch jack (regardless of selected driver) I get the following message

I have ubuntu 11.04 dual boot with vista in a gateway laptop. The internal laptop speakers work fine, but anything I plug into the headphone jack does not work (I have headphones and speakers that I use through the headphone jack).
I've tried a ton of things like re-installing pulse, alsa mixer, making sure everything is turned up and NOT muted, and I can't get any sound.
EDIT: here is the alsa info script output...

specifically to add this line to alsa.conf:
Code:

you can open alsa.conf with this:
Code:

then Jack stops... how do i start Jack successfully?
I installed jack but it won't start either on real, nonrealtime, terminal or qjackctl. It starts a loop of alsa driver xruns until I stop it.
View 9 Replies View RelatedNot sure what this means, just installed CentOS 5.5 i386 on an older Pentium 4 desktop with an ATi Radeon 9200..
What information do I need to supply to get this issue sorted out?
I have an Asus G60vx notebook and when I updated to 10.10 I lost audio through my headphones. The speakers work fine, just not the headphones. Normally I am able to sole these things on my own through searching forums and what not, but no solutions I have found work for me so far. Things I have tried:
1. Make sure the latest drivers are installed according to the above, then edit the file /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf and add the following line:
options snd-hda-intel model=dell-laptop
Reboot and test. Other models to test are:
thinkpad
ideapad
hp_laptop
dell-vostro
olpc-xo-1_5
2. Checking on the alsamixer thru the terminal. Headphones is green, but there is only the 00 notch, like there is no volume to change.
3. Updating my alsa files via synaptics, my kernel model is 2.6.35-23-generic. There is no alsa drivers for this kernel that I can find yet, however I found this, Ubuntu supplied Linux modules for version 2.6.35 ALSA snapshots. Installed it still doesnt work.
I installed ubuntu 9.04 a few days back and realized my headphone jack just doesn't work when plugged in and the sound still comes from the main speaker. I tried following some of the instructions over the net but wasn't able to solve the problem.
