View 9 Replies View Relatedi got some bad virus on my windows and there is no way to remove it so i need to use linux some time till i find a way to remove the virus.I run a online test to see what linux distribution will be the best for my pc since i have very bad/old pc and i found this one.Everything was fine but when it come the part to get internet access it gone bad...I have adsl modem the model model is DSL-360R.This is how i create a internet access in windows.I open con.panel go to network conections and there is a local area conection icon.Right click/properties the select Internet protocol(TCP/IP) and click install i enter thoose numbers(given by my net provider) Ip address: 192.168.1.2 and etc...(If you need the other numbers i will tell you.).
Then i create a new conection.I use a manual login i have username [URL] and password like 2003.I need to get internet on my linux.I aredy called the support of my operator but thoose noobs said they dont support linux and the man was kindly and said somethink about drivers and said to try somethink with spconfig or somethink like that i dont remmber all i know it didnt worked.That is it i tell you all i know and i hope that u can help me and tell me how to create a new connection. P.s my first impression from openSUSE> The os looks great, i love the instaled theme.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI got the system installes. But it seems that I can't connect to the internet. Trying to pdate the system via gslapt doesn't work. Always says the repositories can't be reached. I use a home network with a skydsl modem and a router. All my other pc's can connect without a problem. It seems that something is not working right here with my Absolute install. I can't even set up a browser or add the Gnome BSG as said with lynx.

View 9 Replies View Relatedive just installed ubunutu 10.10 and its connected to the internet via a wireless conection. However I would like to share the connection with an xbox 360 connected to the computer via a ethernet cable. I changed the method under ip4 in the auto eth0 wire connection to "shared to other computers" aplyed and restarted, however whenever the 360 tries to connect itll take a while and then say unable to connect. I also tried this using a ps3 and the ps3 says timed out waiting for ip address. Ive doen this on windows by bridging the connection and it worked without the use of a crossover wire. Would I need a crossover wire?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a generic P4 desktop computer with Debian Squeeze. Since instalation my wired ethernet connection will slowely slow down and then quit when surfing the web. Sometimes it seems worse than othertimes. If it fails I usualy can get it to come back back up by going to Network Connections and clicking on "wired connection"and them just closing the window. It will work for a bit but the conection will inevitably quit in a short time again. Interstingly it seems mostly a problem with web browsers as doing upgrades, package instalations, using SMXI and things of this sort do not seem to be a problem. I have tried both Epiphany and the Squeeze default Iceweasel with identical results. Also when using Google Earth a similar situation occurs in about 2 minuits of use. The same computer running Debian Lenny with Epiphany and WXP with the dreaded IE do not have this problem.

I checked task manager the other day and I discovered that on the network history monitor some bits and bites were transfered in a repeating pattern (like a beacon). The transfer rate (when active) is about 149b/s receiving. And about 70b/s sending. What is this?

View 9 Replies View RelatedHow can I add a network card to Network Manager? I have installed a new usb dongle and iwconfig shows it, ifconfig -a shows it and iwlist shows my SSID. Network manager just does not list it. A side note: It is weird if I use my old bulky Zonet (rt2870sta) on reboot it is wlan0 but if I plug in my new Edimax (rt3070sta) it will not show up unless I reboot with it and only it plugged in. Then I can plug in my Zonet again and they show up as ra0 and ra1.

It has an Atheros AR5001 wireless network adaptor.I'm getting very bad latency and throughput on with this card. In comparison my Thinkpad with Intel card achieves at least 10 times the throughput from the same location. Also when I boot my wifi will come up authenticate and then a few seconds later disconnect and reconnect. I've tried updating the kernel to 2.6.35 as one of the fixes was to improve the performance of the ath5k driver. I'm using wpa2 authentication.

I have an Atheros AR5007 802.11 b/g WiFi Adapter. I use OpenSuse 11.3, KDE desktop.When I did iwconfig, it displayed the following:

I had the Wireless Broadband working. It stopped working after I closed the laptop (suspend). Also the wifi will not connect until reboot. Now the entry for the Wireless Broadband is gone, and the tab for it is greyed out as well.I would be happy to submit this as a bug and assist with the debugging process.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI got ubuntu working fine on my netbook and wanted to play around with opensuse. I have it installed and everything works fine except my wireless connection. I have updated everything since the installation through a wired connection, that didn't help. I have read the stickies, but to be honest, I'm so new to this stuff I'm kinda lost. So my wireless network has a WEP encryption and I have entered that password as a 64 HEX Key in the Wireless Manager widget. It connects to the network and says is labeled as active, however there is still the yellow exclamation shield next to the connection. Firefox and other apps don't have access to the internet.

I have no wireless WIFI-router at home, so I have to use the laptop as a router to the internet. I know I have to enter a static IP adres and my router's address, but where ? My network is:
- non-broadcast
- WPA2 Personal
- G
The netbook is fairly recent from Asus and wireless works perfectly with Fedora 11 and Windows XP.

i'm running 11.3 kde 4.4, with a Broadcom 4318. since installing 11.3 a few days ago, whenever i'm connected via wireless, one of two things always happen: when trying to play video (hulu, ....., etc.) in firefox, within a minute or so i will get the BSOD--that is, my screen will go black, and my cap/num lock lights will flash on and off. also, when regularly browsing the internet...not long after opening firefox, it will stop working like i have no connection, and then i will get a frozen screen and system within a minute or two after seeing a variation of this communication message:

strangely, i have no problems running streaming audio through smplayer. and i have no problems playing saved video files through smplayer. and i have absolutely no problems whatsoever browsing or playing online video while connected via ethernet.
i've also searched through the various forum sections to try to address the issue, but nothing i've tried has worked. nor has anyone had a problem identical or even similar to this. btw...in relation to "broadcom", yast tells me that i have "b43-firmware" and "b43-fwcutter" installed. nothing else. i do not have "ndiswrapper" installed, because this gave me problems in 11.2, and this problem mentioned here was happening in 11.3 before i uninstalled "ndiswrapper". and the repos i have are: Packman, OSS, Non-OSS, and Update.
Sorry for repeating the same old complaint but there doesn't seem to be a common fix: Wireless does not work on my Presario R3000 although SUSE 11.x lists the hardware in the Hardware Information list and the hardware is turned on. Network Manager doesn't display any wireless networks in SUSE while Win 7 can see 4 of them on the same machine. Ubuntu has no problem either

I am currently using NDISWrapper to load the bcmwl15 driver and when it's active it works beautifully.Problem is sometimes at boot, the card doesn't "turn on" and I don't know how else to describe it. The OS does not even detect that the hardware is present. I have disabled wireless hotkey in BIOS. The only way to make the wireless card "active" is to reboot with the wiredconnection to the router. After doing that the wireless card "wakes up" and works awesome.Is there anything I can do to make sure the driver load at boot?mes I get the error that NDISWrapper is not modprobbed when I go to network configuration and if I wish to do i now? I don't know if that has anything to do with the boot sequence. Using the <modprobe ndiswrapper> command as root does nothing permanant
View 9 Replies View RelatedJust installed 11.3 on a older Dell Dimension 8200 with a D-Link DWA-160 N dual band USB card. The install went ok and the card works (seems a little slow right now but that is next on the list). However, when I run YOU I get the following conflict:

when the system wants to install patch:Kernel-3038.noarch and patch:Kernel-3709.noarch. I cannot seem to find a suitable provider for the default:drivers_usb_core. Is this something to address here or do I need to go to [URL]?
I am running openSUSE 11.3 updated with all the latest patches and I cannot connect to my wireless router. I am running Linux Mint 10 on the same type of notebook HP Compaq 6910p and it worked right after the install. If I take off the security WPA & WPA2 Personal I can connect. lspci -v | less shows this for my wireless card.

I am using the same settings for both notebooks just can't figure out why openSUSE 11.3 won't connect. I get the prompt to key in my password, I've even checked the box to show password to make sure I was keying it in correctly. Everything was good but it just goes right back to the password prompt after it fails trying to connect.
