I have an intel 5300 wireless chipset which is not supported in kernel 2.6.25. I am currently using opensuse 11.0, I downgraded from 11.1 since I faced so many other problems. can I setup my wireless driver under kernel 2.6.25? if so, how could i do this?
View 7 RepliesThe wireless on my 64-bit openSUSE-11.2 installed on my Dell Studio 1537 laptop stopped working some time back (possibly more than a one or two months back). I just discovered this last week when on business. I have not used the wireless under openSUSE-11.2 for a while so I am not certain what broke it, but I am suspicious of an update. I note openSUSE-11.3 milestone-7 works great with the wireless (on a liveCD). I note possibly two related threads, although I note no failed request for firmware in my case:request for firmware file 'iwlwifi-5000-2.ucode' failed [INTEL 5300 AGN] [OPENSUSE 11.2] - openSUSE Forums, and I see another thread here: Suddenly No Wireless Network Card - openSUSE Forums... but I can not tell if what I have is the same problem, so I did not add to those threads. In my case I can scan for the network, and see the SSID. An ip address is assigned. But a ping does not work.

I know the router wireless network is good, because I can connect to the router via wireless with another laptop (old Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo 7400M with older Intel wireless), and the router wireless also works with this Dell Studio 1537 PC (with same hardware) but with openSUSE-11.3 milestone7 version.
I can't get my card Intel Wireless 5300 AGN to work. I'm running Slackware 13.1 and it's a full, fresh install.I get to show up with lspci -v:Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 5300 AGN [Shiloh] Network Connection...But it will not show up with 'ifconfig' which will only list the local loopback (yes we have have a eth problem as well but one thing at a time).
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell E6500 with and Intel 5300 wireless agn card running Lucid x64. Wireless works fine and speeds are great except when I download with either the browser or thru a torrent or even updates. Once I get to around 100 megs in to the file wireless stops working and the only way to get it working again is to disconnect and reconnect to the AP. I have installed the back ports and tried several other fixed to get this to work but nothing has helped. One more note this happens on 2 other wireless routers that I have tried so I know that it's not limited to my Linksys.

It establishes connection but the indicator shows no signal and I cant connect to any website, I tried pinging external IPs etc. None of these worked. lspci -nn | grep 'Wireless Brand'Does not show anything. The network Im trying to connect to is hidden, so I have to input SSID manually, I doubt this causes the problem.
Noob to Ubuntu here and I cannot access my wireless connection. It is working fine right now (wired) but I am using the TV stand as my computer desk right now so... not very practical. I tried following the "howto post a wireless issue (ticket)" but there was too much information for me to be able to put on here.
I have my SSID and my WEP. I am on Verizon DSL (only provider in my area). I tried using the wireless setting in network connections and I tried using DSL. I assumed that SSID+Password=Yay the internet works! but apparently not.
I just install F13 yesterday, before that I use F12 and it works well with no problem. The biggest and only problem I have with F13 is wifi network. If I turn on wifi switch before OS start, WIFI LED lights and wireless works. Then I try to turn off switch and turn on again, but the LED doesnt light any more, so wireless is also silent. The bad thing is there are many notifications of kernel crash.

I am running Linux Mint 10 on the same type of notebook HP Compaq 6910p and it worked right after the install. If I take off the security WPA & WPA2 Personal I can connect. lspci -v | less shows this for my wireless card.

I am using the same settings for both notebooks just can't figure out why openSUSE 11.3 won't connect. I get the prompt to key in my password, I've even checked the box to show password to make sure I was keying it in correctly. Everything was good but it just goes right back to the password prompt after it fails trying to connect.
I clicked "Network Settings", and I found that the ip address was wrong, which is "192.168.1.10/24", and netmask field is empty, so I modifed the configuration file located in /etc/sysconfig/network, named ifcfg-wlan0, added one line(NETMASK= '255.255.255.0'), saved it and reboot the system. After rebooting the system, I still found the ip address is wrong and netmask field is empty, so I have to use ifup command to activate my card manually every time the system starts.

I think maybe the driver is not loading, but I am a pretty much still a noob, so my opinion isn't worth much. If it is the driver not loading, I don't know what to do to fix it. View 6 Replies View RelatedI have an HP Pavilion laptop running Xubuntu 11.04. It has an Intel Corporation 82852/855GM Integrated Graphics Device (rev 02) chipset. The driver I'm using is a vesa driver. I ran a check from compiz-check.com to see if my computer could run compiz and it said that I don't have the right driver to run it.It asked if I wanted to check for any proprietary drivers, I ran the check and it came back with nothing. I used to have Ubuntu 9.10 on this same laptop and it ran compiz no problem so I'm a little confused why it won't work with the newer version. Is there something I'm missing? Maybe another driver out there I can try? And if there's really nothing I can do, is there anything out there comparable to compiz that my computer could run? I've been hesitant to upgrade from 9.10 because I ran into this problem with 10.04 so I went back to Karmic and stuck with it until they weren't updating it anymore.

Where I can share files and the printer connected to my desktop. But I want to be able to use Suse in the same way, full time and to stray away from Vista. My wife and kids like easy. The problem might be derived from the fact I had to install openSUSE in Kernel (F6) > Safe Mode. If I need to install more things, please let me know ASAP! I am wired to my ethernet until then, which means I can't move from this spot until my wireless is working!
I recently upgraded to OpenSUSE 11.4 GNOME on my ancient Compaq Armada E500 (Pentium II processor w/512MB of RAM) and now I'm trying to install my wireless driver with ndiswrapper. I've done this a couple of times before, but I'm having trouble getting ndiswrapper to find my driver. The driver is located in a folder on my desktop, but when I type the command 'ndiswrapper -i home/edwin/Desktop/WPC54G_40826/LSTINDS.INF' I get a message that there is no such file or directory at ndiswrapper's location, which is usr/sbin/ndiswrapper. So how do I get ndiswrapper either to look in the directory where the file is located or get a copy of LSTINDS.INF into the usr/sbin/ directory, which must be accessed as root?

View 9 Replies View RelatedJust installed 11.3 on a older Dell Dimension 8200 with a D-Link DWA-160 N dual band USB card. The install went ok and the card works (seems a little slow right now but that is next on the list). However, when I run YOU I get the following conflict:

when the system wants to install patch:Kernel-3038.noarch and patch:Kernel-3709.noarch. I cannot seem to find a suitable provider for the default:drivers_usb_core. Is this something to address here or do I need to go to [URL]?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to get dual monitors working on a fresh install of debian from the netinst install cd. I did not allow the installer to download any packages and then manually installed xorg gnome-core & gdm using apt-get.
The monitors are plugged into the onboard vga and dvi ports of my motherboard. I believe the chipset is intel.
At the moment the displays are cloned.
I don't know much about xorg.

I just performed the newest kernel update to version 2.6.37.6-0.7 (desktop). Unfortunately, there is no update for the compat-wireless package available. It's still the version for kernel 2.6.37.6-0.5. Hence, my wireless is currently not working and I had to pull a cable through my apartment to write these lines. I actually thought due to the change of the very last digit in the kernel version that this should be a rather safe update. But I also had to recompile the modules of the NVidia driver and of Virtualbox. Does anyone has an idea when new compat-wireless modules will be available? Or do I have to re-compile them myself (I never had to do that before and I really hope that I don't have to)? Or is there a trick to make the old modules work?

I have the above mentioned USB Wifi Dongle Bus 002 Device 003: ID 148f:3072 Ralink Technology, Corp. RT3072 Wireless Adapter It works extremely well using the KDE network manager but just will not connect using ifup traditional method through yast.
Initially it was using the RT2870 driver but this only gave wirelessg speeds (and still no ifup) but after blacklisting RT2780 and using RT5370sta driver draftn speed was achieved using KDE network manager however I still could not connect through ifup. The dongle scans and sees networks using ifup but will just not connect properly (NB security WPA2-AES).
My laptop has a built-in miniPCI wireless card that has Atheros AR-5001 chipset and use ath5k driver for wireless G. How do I switch to Broadcom wl driver for Linksys WPC-300n wireless N PCMCIA card?
