View 4 RepliesFirst of all, this tutorial will use NDISWRAPPER, not b43, not wl (Broadcom STA). So, hooray for new method (actually, the only method ). Now, I don't want anyone to get scared because of bad experiences with Ndiswrapper or whatever, it's actually quite easy. I did not come up with any of this info. I'm just putting this guide together from Kacper Szczesniak's info (who came up with this method), WifiDocsDriverbcm43xxFeisty_No-Fluff from the Ubuntu Wiki, and my experience. The Broadcom STA (wl) driver has references to monitor mode in it's code, but does not have that functionality in reality. The Broadcom Windows driver on the other hand does have this capability. So, for monitor mode to work, you will need a patched version of ndiswrapper.
1) Install the Linux kernel headers:
Code:
sudo apt-get install linux-headers-$(uname -r)
2) Install the tools required to compile Ndiswrapper:
Code:
sudo apt-get install checkinstall dh-make fakeroot gcc build-essential
3) Unload current Ndiswrapper module, if running:
Code:
sudo rmmod ndiswrapper
[code]....
I have tired everything I know how to do and I can not install the driver for the rtl8191se. I read the instructions that say to run:
sudo make
I have been through this before with Fedora. Ubuntu supported my wireless card but not my display so I am switching to this OS. Does anyone know how to install the driver on 11.4 suse?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to install the driver for mi wireless card. The instructions say that to build the tar.gz file, I have to:
# mkdir hybrid_wl
# cd hybrid_wl
# tar <path>/hybrid-portsrc.tarhybrid-portsrc-x86_64.tar.gz
The third step i don't understand. I want the folder of the driver to be located in a folder inside home called "Programas" so what I did was to open the terminal, went su, and then did cd Programas. Then I followed instructions 1 and 2, but I don't know what to put where it says <path>.
I got the native driver for linux already but just don't how to do it. It is an external wireless usb card, it's from Ralink.

I have just installed openSuse 11.4 and have been trying to get my Edimax EW-7711In wireless card to work. I have downloaded and installed NDISWRAPPER but when I type ndiswrapper -i /path/to/rt2860.inf I get a message saying that this is the incorrect driver. I have had 10.04 on this computer in the past and it worked fine, but this is a fresh install of 11.04. Any suggestions on where to go from here?
i recently purchased a new custom-built computer and thought i would give ubuntu a shot (read: i'm a linux noob). i'm running 11.04. anyway, i can't get my pci wireless card to work. i downloaded the rt3562 driver from ralink's site, followed the directions in this tutorial url?t=1608095 and i keep getting an error message when i try to do "sudo make":

I tried using b43-fwcutter in accordance with the Ubuntu Forums and nothing happened, and then I decided to look a little further. According to LinuxWireless.org, the BCM4306/2 actually uses the b43legacy drivers, so I purged all of b43-fwcutter along with firmware-b43-installer and downloaded firmware-b43legacy-installer.
$ sudo apt-get install b43-fwcutter firmware-b43legacy-installer
Nothing happened, so I downloaded b43legacy manually per the instructions listed at LinuxWireless.com, and manually extracted from wl_apsta-3.130.20.0.o to my /lib/firmware folder. Nothing happened again. I made sure to check additional drivers and nothing shows up.
As per the ticket posting instructions, I've included all the info you guys could need. from what I can conclude, the wireless isn't even ON, but it's integrated and I have NO IDEA what I have to do to get it up and running.
At least in OpenSuSE 11.3 LXDE I was able to get the wireless on, although I had some major connection issues, I guess it couldn't resolve the handshake completely, or take my SSID/PSK properly.

It has an Atheros AR5001 wireless network adaptor.I'm getting very bad latency and throughput on with this card. In comparison my Thinkpad with Intel card achieves at least 10 times the throughput from the same location. Also when I boot my wifi will come up authenticate and then a few seconds later disconnect and reconnect. I've tried updating the kernel to 2.6.35 as one of the fixes was to improve the performance of the ath5k driver. I'm using wpa2 authentication.
Here are some details:

I have searched and have not found anything specific to my issue. I am currently using NDISWrapper to load the bcmwl15 driver and when it's active it works beautifully.Problem is sometimes at boot, the card doesn't "turn on" and I don't know how else to describe it. The OS does not even detect that the hardware is present. I have disabled wireless hotkey in BIOS. The only way to make the wireless card "active" is to reboot with the wiredconnection to the router. After doing that the wireless card "wakes up" and works awesome. Is there anything I can do to make sure the driver load at boot?mes I get the error that NDISWrapper is not modprobbed when I go to network configuration and if I wish to do i now? I don't know if that has anything to do with the boot sequence. Using the <modprobe ndiswrapper> command as root does nothing permanant

View 7 Replies View RelatedMy wireless device is an integrated Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-Card, I am unsure about the driver I have in use. I am sure I have a driver installed because the configuration screen shows my network. I currently have the computer plugged into my network via CAT 5 but I would like to be able to use the wireless (obviously.) I am using Open SuSE version 11.2 and I have run the updater. I could not see my wireless network before running the updater and I can now so I know that the updates have helped but I am again stuck. I have tried to search the wireless forum and I have tried to tinker with the settings in YaST , but nothing seems to be working. Reading the Welcome page of the wireless forum, I tried the Broadcom chip-set advice:

I have read and taken to heart the advice given for receiving help and if any more is needed I will gladly give it. I have a small amount of experience with SuSE Enterprise edition so I can understand some technical stuff but I am best at following specific instructions.
I clicked "Network Settings", and I found that the ip address was wrong, which is "192.168.1.10/24", and netmask field is empty, so I modifed the configuration file located in /etc/sysconfig/network, named ifcfg-wlan0, added one line(NETMASK= '255.255.255.0'), saved it and reboot the system. After rebooting the system, I still found the ip address is wrong and netmask field is empty, so I have to use ifup command to activate my card manually every time the system starts.

The problem might be derived from the fact I had to install openSUSE in Kernel (F6) > Safe Mode. If I need to install more things, please let me know ASAP! I am wired to my ethernet until then, which means I can't move from this spot until my wireless is working!
I recently upgraded to OpenSUSE 11.4 GNOME on my ancient Compaq Armada E500 (Pentium II processor w/512MB of RAM) and now I'm trying to install my wireless driver with ndiswrapper. I've done this a couple of times before, but I'm having trouble getting ndiswrapper to find my driver. The driver is located in a folder on my desktop, but when I type the command 'ndiswrapper -i home/edwin/Desktop/WPC54G_40826/LSTINDS.INF' I get a message that there is no such file or directory at ndiswrapper's location, which is usr/sbin/ndiswrapper. So how do I get ndiswrapper either to look in the directory where the file is located or get a copy of LSTINDS.INF into the usr/sbin/ directory, which must be accessed as root?
