Dec 24, 2010I have a Thinkpad X100e with Realtek 8191SE wireless, which I am having little luck getting to work with WEP in Debian Squeeze.The only Linux driver for this wireless chipset is r8192se_pci from Realtek (out-of-tree, but GPL; includes binary firmware); I can vouch for this, having built wireless-testing from git on the 19th. After installing the headers and building the driver from source (no warnings), the module loaded fine.When I try configuring wlan0, it appears to work.
I go ifconfig wlan0 up
iwconfig wlan0 key <key hidden> essid <essid>
iwlist wlan0 scanning
iwconfig
dhclient wlan0 #I've also tried with 'busybox udhcpc -i wlan0'
iwconfig shows association has succeeded; both dhclient and udhcpc succeed in getting a dhcp lease.But if I try accessing the network (busybox ping or links2), I get "Network is unreachable"; aptitude reports a 'temporary failure to connect'.If I do not boot with the 'quiet' boot parameter, r8192se begins randomly spewing messages through the console right about this time, indicating that the driver may be randomly disconnecting.

Debian squeeze, installed via debootstrap from Ubuntu.
Under Ubuntu, this driver is patched into the kernel; I have a functional connection with WEP under 2.6.35-24-generic on Ubuntu 10.10.wpa_supplicant on Ubuntu, however, causes random disconnects. Switching the card is not really an option, as Lenovo has a BIOS whitelist that prevents booting with an 'unauthorized' wireless card.
Ubuntu Networking :: RTL8191SE Wireless Connects But Fails?
May 24, 2010I have a Compaq Presario CQ42-195TX laptop with Ubuntu 10.04 (64-bit) installed on it and fully updated. It has a Realtek RTL8191SE wireless chipset which I am having trouble with - its wired connection is working perfectly.After starting up, I am able to see and connect to wireless networks. Once connected, the wireless functions correctly for a very brief period (under 10 seconds) in which I am able to access the Internet and so forth. The connection then stops working - although it doesn't get disconnected. When I say it "stops working", I mean I can no longer access the Internet and trying to ping the router gives me a "Destination Host Unreachable" error. If I disconnect from the network I cannot reconnect, nor can I connect to any other network.- though I can still see the list of available networks.
I thought that maybe this was a 64-bit issue, but I tried the Ubuntu 10.04 32-bit live CD and experienced the same problem.Please note that while this thread is about the RTL8191SE chipset, the RTL819xSE chipsets all use the same driver.Below are the results of various commands while connected to the network but after the connection has stopped functioning correctly:lspci -nn | grep "Realtek"

Aug 15, 2010I have a Toshiba Satellite L655-S5061 laptop and dual-boot Windows 7 and Kubuntu Lucid Lynx. Windows detects and connects to the wireless network just fine, but in Kubuntu it will detect the network but can't connect to it. Sometimes Network Manager will say it's connected, but Konqueror can't load any websites. Plugging in an ethernet cable doesn't give me access to the internet, either.

I have been through this before with Fedora. Ubuntu supported my wireless card but not my display so I am switching to this OS. Does anyone know how to install the driver on 11.4 suse?

OpenSUSE Wireless :: RTL8191SE Driver On Compaq Presario CQ62 Doesn't Work With XP Driver
Oct 23, 2010No wireless networking. The ethernet works fine, and the wireless interface itself works well in Windows 7 (dual boot). Tried: Ndiswrapper, notoriously quirky, does not seem to work with the XP driver (the oldest driver available for the RTL8191SE). The linux driver offered on the manufacturer's website lacks any installation instructions. I have no clue how to install a linux driver. SUSE seems to have two network managers that are constantly complaining about control: Network Manager and Yast. Neither are great and I am left missing my Ubuntu.
However, my audio only seems to work on SUSE. I have tried almost every distro on this machine. Ubuntu lacked sound and wireless, Fedora played startup sounds, but would not play an mp3 or wav file (fiddling with the mixer did not help). And Fedora also lacked wireless support. PCLinuxOS, my favorite, lacked sound and wireless. Tried some oldies too. ELE, DSL, Puppy, Ubuntu Netbook remix, Vector, Browserpuppy, Crunchbang, Cruncheee (just for experimental sakes) and probably others I am not remembering. So far, installing a free linux distro has cost me 14 dvd-R's and countless hours of installing, reformatting and reinstalling. Part of me really wanted crunchbang to work, as I love the minimalism and blacked-out theme.
I need wireless network access. The wireless light remains red in Linux and pressing the key does nothing to start the device. In Windows 7 it always lights white and works perfectly. Why hasn't SUSE adopted a gui for ndiswrapper? Other distros have it. Why is my brand new laptop, which is by no means abnormal in make or configuration, not 100% supported natively by any Linux distro? I just updated to the new kernel yesterday. So I should be running the most modern operating system available. Yet good-ol Windows 7 is my only fully functional environment.

Ubuntu Networking :: Sharing Network Conection With Xbox 360?
Oct 10, 2010ive just installed ubunutu 10.10 and its connected to the internet via a wireless conection. However I would like to share the connection with an xbox 360 connected to the computer via a ethernet cable. I changed the method under ip4 in the auto eth0 wire connection to "shared to other computers" aplyed and restarted, however whenever the 360 tries to connect itll take a while and then say unable to connect. I also tried this using a ps3 and the ps3 says timed out waiting for ip address. Ive doen this on windows by bridging the connection and it worked without the use of a crossover wire. Would I need a crossover wire?

Jan 30, 2011I got the system installes. But it seems that I can't connect to the internet. Trying to pdate the system via gslapt doesn't work. Always says the repositories can't be reached. I use a home network with a skydsl modem and a router. All my other pc's can connect without a problem. It seems that something is not working right here with my Absolute install. I can't even set up a browser or add the Gnome BSG as said with lynx.

Aug 10, 2010i got some bad virus on my windows and there is no way to remove it so i need to use linux some time till i find a way to remove the virus.I run a online test to see what linux distribution will be the best for my pc since i have very bad/old pc and i found this one.Everything was fine but when it come the part to get internet access it gone bad...I have adsl modem the model model is DSL-360R.This is how i create a internet access in windows.I open con.panel go to network conections and there is a local area conection icon.Right click/properties the select Internet protocol(TCP/IP) and click install i enter thoose numbers(given by my net provider) Ip address: 192.168.1.2 and etc...(If you need the other numbers i will tell you.).
Then i create a new conection.I use a manual login i have username [URL] and password like 2003.I need to get internet on my linux.I aredy called the support of my operator but thoose noobs said they dont support linux and the man was kindly and said somethink about drivers and said to try somethink with spconfig or somethink like that i dont remmber all i know it didnt worked.That is it i tell you all i know and i hope that u can help me and tell me how to create a new connection. P.s my first impression from openSUSE> The os looks great, i love the instaled theme.

No Internet-related program was running from my part...In an attempt to pinpoint what was causing this, I occidentally removed the tools located left and right on the time and date. I've rebooted since but still no tools. The 0/I button is also gone.
Networking :: Wired Ethernet Conection Deminished On Debian Squeeze?
Jan 22, 2011I have a generic P4 desktop computer with Debian Squeeze. Since instalation my wired ethernet connection will slowely slow down and then quit when surfing the web. Sometimes it seems worse than othertimes. If it fails I usualy can get it to come back back up by going to Network Connections and clicking on "wired connection"and them just closing the window. It will work for a bit but the conection will inevitably quit in a short time again. Interstingly it seems mostly a problem with web browsers as doing upgrades, package instalations, using SMXI and things of this sort do not seem to be a problem. I have tried both Epiphany and the Squeeze default Iceweasel with identical results. Also when using Google Earth a similar situation occurs in about 2 minuits of use. The same computer running Debian Lenny with Epiphany and WXP with the dreaded IE do not have this problem.

Jul 27, 2010I just switched from Ubuntu to Fedora 13 because I was unable to get Ubuntu to connect to wireless networks. I tried everything suggested in help and forums, and kept getting "Bad Password" with WICD and Network Manager. Now, with Fedora...I still can't connect.
Problem #1: The guide says to "...make sure that the relevant wireless interface (usually eth0 or eth1) is controlled by NetworkManager," and that I do this via: System>Administration>Network
However, there is no Network option under System>Administration.
Problem #2: I open Network Manager, which displays a list of networks. I click on mine, configure it with WPA and the right password, and it fails to connect: "The network connection has been disconnected."

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Unable To Enable Wireless On Laptop Even Though It's Not Grayed Out
Mar 30, 2011I am using OpenSuse 11.4(32 bit) on my Lenovo B460 laptop, and as the title points, am unable to use wireless on it. The 'enable wireless' option from icon menu is not greyed out, however clicking it does nothing, it remains disabled.

May 5, 2010Recently I have encountered Problems with my Wireless that I have not had before and I cannot fix. So I am asking for help.
6 month old Dell Insperion 1730 Laptop
Dual boot Karmic/Win 7
WUBI install.
No problems till about a week ago.A week ago I upgraded to Lucid and could not get the DVD drive to mount no matter what. The OS saw it but would not mount it...... uninstall and re -install Karmic.As soon as the patches are installed from the update manager, I lose my wireless completely. Wired connection still works.
I have tried different things from here and other sites. Basically I need to know how to enable my wireless card. There is no switch and key combinations (ALT+ F2) don't do anything. Connectivity in Win 7 is fine.
The Applet says wireless is disabled and so does the output from $sudo lshw -C network.It sees the interface but the network is disabled. lsmod shows the driver. iw list scan says does not support scanning. Newtwork is down.I know there is something in the updates that is messing the Intel WiFi Link 5100 up. On a fresh install all works till updated.

Jun 13, 2010I have just installed Ubuntu Studio on my old Acer Aspire 3003 and all is going well except that I can't get the wireless to switch on (it was working fine under XP). After searching the forums and with much help I have got the drivers installed for the Broadcom b43, but I still can't seem to get the wireless adapter to switch on. Many of the posts on this refer to System > Preferences > Network Connections, but I don't seem to have that option, just Network Tools and Network. Output of some commands that may help below.

Aug 14, 2010I just dual-booted my Acer Aspire 3810TZ laptop with Ubuntu 10.04. When I first tried to connect to my home wireless network, it connected fine. However, now whenever I start the laptop, it will not connect. The network appears in the available networks list, but it fails to connect. I know the network is ok, because I can still connect to it fine from Windows.
My network adapter is Intel Wifi 1000 BGN. Apparently (from [URL]) the drivers for this card should be part of the distribution.
I can't understand why it connected once, but (without any changes to the system at all) it won't work now.
