i have a usb modem 3g huawei k3520 that is installed on FC13 minimal only shellli have see that my modem is config with dmesg ....
now i want to create a conection to my provider on boot ... can anyone help me find the files where i create my conection and how can i make my modem to conect autom on boot...????

I'm new here. This is my first post. Something tells me my problem will be met with great sighs and shrugs of shoulders. I think you may have heard this problem just a few thousand times. couple of days ago i took the plunge and installed Ubuntu 9.10. I already run XP Pro. I have the system set for dual booting until i get to grips with Linux and have all that i use daily from software to hardware comprehesively installed and running. then i have this ideal romantic dream of dumping my microsoft heartache, and living a happy life with the new love in town (an OS that works!)
Vodafone (Huawei K3520) mobile broadband dongle. Yes i know its a touchy subject but i am going cross-eyed reading info on various forums from this one to the betavine forums and a detour through vodafone themselves. I just can't find clear concise info on how to get this dongle up and running with Ubuntu. My laptop is Acer Aspire 5633 WLMi. I would really really appreciate your help on this subject i need to get online with this dongle and Ubuntu.

I've spent several hours reading stuff, most of which is way above my head.
I plug it in, set it up in "edit connections". Nothing happens.
It shows up in disk utility twice, as a usb vodaphone storage (huawei) and cd drive (vodafone cd rom)
I switched from puppy to ubuntu because I read that you could just plug dongles into ubuntu and they would be recognized. (Spent many many hours trying to get it working in puppy.)

Now I've changed the OS to 3MX Ultra, it doesn't work as either.
Obviously it is more important to get it working as a modem but if it can work as a data card as well, then so much the better.
i can't get a pppoe conection working over a wireless network,in windows I have to connect to the router first, and then put in my user and password to get connected, but i don't know how to do this on fedora, i get connected to the router through network manager, and ping is ok, but when i try to make a new xDSL connection i don't know how to make it work through the wireless network that is established and working with my router.

I've followed the installation instructions provided by the provider but this still does not work. I've also tried a couple of similar installation instructions found around the net. Has anybody had any luck getting this to work in Fedora 14? How did you or how can I get this to work?

I'm using ubuntu 10.04 when I plug the modem during the boot I get the product id changed from 1446 to 141b and dmesg |grep tty show me that the modem attached to ttyusb0 and ttyusb1 when I plug it after the startup I get also the product id changed from 1446 to 141b but dmesg |grep tty show me nothing.

However I would like to share the connection with an xbox 360 connected to the computer via a ethernet cable. I changed the method under ip4 in the auto eth0 wire connection to "shared to other computers" aplyed and restarted, however whenever the 360 tries to connect itll take a while and then say unable to connect. I also tried this using a ps3 and the ps3 says timed out waiting for ip address. Ive doen this on windows by bridging the connection and it worked without the use of a crossover wire. Would I need a crossover wire?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a generic P4 desktop computer with Debian Squeeze. Since instalation my wired ethernet connection will slowely slow down and then quit when surfing the web. Sometimes it seems worse than othertimes. If it fails I usualy can get it to come back back up by going to Network Connections and clicking on "wired connection"and them just closing the window. It will work for a bit but the conection will inevitably quit in a short time again. Interstingly it seems mostly a problem with web browsers as doing upgrades, package instalations, using SMXI and things of this sort do not seem to be a problem. I have tried both Epiphany and the Squeeze default Iceweasel with identical results. Also when using Google Earth a similar situation occurs in about 2 minuits of use. The same computer running Debian Lenny with Epiphany and WXP with the dreaded IE do not have this problem.

It's supposed to be recognized by the kernel and just added through Network Manager, but - no luck. I also installed vodafone-mobile connect from here: [URL] (as well as the other packages). What happens when I start it - it doesn't see the modem. It's seen as a CD drive, and clicking "eject", "unmount" or "remove safely" on it doesn't help - it disappears, then several seconds later appears as a CD drive again.

On speedtest.net I get 0.30Mb/s at most on linux but about 2Mb/s on windows.Torrents does not seem to be affected thou. I've got speeds up to about 150kB/s on Fedora.I'm running a fresh install of Fedora 12 64 bit.

They have a special roaming agreement with the Danish company named the same, so that I can surf for free both within the 3 net in Sweden and in Denmark. This has worked very smoothly until recently, when my modem connected to another company here in Denmark, and I was charged for the surfing per MB (a lot of money per MB, luckily I got a warning message in my browser and stopped).The company now says that they cannot block my modem from using all foreign networks except theirs, so they've blocked it from all surfing outside Sweden - which means I cannot surf in Denmark. If I was using Windows, their application however could block the unwanted networks...
But then I saw this field "Network" under "Advanced" in the Network Connections->Mobile Broadband box. What is that for? Can I tell it to connect only to e.g. networks called "3"? I've searched the net for any information about this textbox without success.I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 and the modem is a Huawei E122, which I've got to work with some usbmodeswitch fiddling.

My conclusion is that there has to be some kind of filtering of traffic that exclude PC's running Linux. From the same PC I can send and receive email, I can ping and trace (mtr) addresses on www, and I can view webpages that are on servers on the inside of the filtering-gateway. The filter used is InterScan Web Security Virtual Appliance from TrendMicro

We recently got a new mini PC which came pre-installed with Ubuntu 10.10, so far, so good. Today, we invested in a Vodafone broadband dongle (model number: K3570-Z/K3571-Z). I've installed the dongle on our old XP machine, with no problems, however, Ubuntu won't even recognise that it's plugged in. What am I doing wrong? We've had the new machine for 3 days, so I'm really new to all of it and haven't learnt how to use the command prompt yet, so I'm hoping someone has some advice for a complete beginner. I can't understand why it's not recognising that somethings plugged in, because from what I've found, you need usb_modeswitch in over for the dongle to be recognised as a modem.
