View 2 Replies View RelatedI would like to install Ubuntu 10 on my Thinkpad T400, but would like feedback from other T400 users that have Ubuntu running on their laptops. First, will it recognize all my hardware? I hear most Thinkpad users had issues with video and webcam drivers, but that was with an earlier version of Ubuntu 8 through 9. So my plan is to have Ubuntu 10 as my primary OS on the T400 and use Win7 within VMware.
View 7 Replies View RelatedOn my Ubuntu (10.04) system, the Ativa SMP-6AS webcam has worked out of the box. On a minimalistic (no gui) Debian Lenny system, it only creates devices for audio (/dev/audio1, /dev/dsp1, /dev/mixer1), but no corresponding /dev/video0 (like it does on Ubuntu). How do I find out what driver it's using on the Ubuntu system so I can install it on the Debian?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've just successfully updated a Thinkpad T400 from 5.5 to 5.6 with no problems. In fact, the wireless led indicator now works, which is kind of neat. What's annoying is that it blinks whenever there is network traffic.Perhaps I'll get used to it, but if I can just make it "on" when the network is on and "off" when the network is off, that would be better.Googling turns up this issue on ubuntu and other distros in the past year or so, and the recommended fix was to add the following line to /etc/modprobe.d/iwlcore.conf
options iwlcore led_mode=1
I did this, unloaded and reloaded the kernel modules, but to no avail. Output was:
[cbender@kauai modprobe.d]# rmmod iwlagn
[cbender@kauai modprobe.d]# rmmod iwlcore
[cbender@kauai modprobe.d]# modprobe iwlagn[code].........
I've got a 64-bit CentOS 5 setup and I'm trying to run startx, but when I do I get:
I tried changing the display driver to i810 in xorg.conf but it can't find that module either.

I'm assuming that it can't find a driver for a cdrom - but I am not too sure of that.
When i put the command: /etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup for install it it say this:
Stopping VirtualBox kernel module [ OK ]
Recompiling VirtualBox kernel module [FAILED]
(Look at /var/log/vbox-install.log to find out what went wrong)
[root@server ~]#
and
the log:
Makefile:185: *** Unable to find the folder to install the support driver to. Stop.
How do I find out which package (rpm) contains the ipg (network driver) module?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to find a driver for my wireless card (Atheros AR928X) and I think it's ath9k what I need. As far as I know there isn't a linux driver for it, so I installed ndiswrapper to use a windows driver instead. The problem is that when I type modprobe ndiswrapper I get "bash: modprobe: command not found" (even as root). I know I'm missing something about modprobe, but I can't find any help on google. Anyway, I installed ndisgtk next, because I thought it would be easier, but when I go to System> Administration> Windows Wireless Drivers I get a message "Unknown error".Do you have any ideas on how I'll make ndiswrapper work?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am trying to clone a working Centos 5.4 system onto a new box with a ASUS P5KPL-CM motherboard. I have done so by plugging in a Realtec lan card - but can't get the motherboard lan working. Googling tells me the motherboard has a Atheros L1E lan chip - but I have installed several kmod drivers from ELREPO - but still can't get the on-board lan working. So far I have installed:
kmod-atl1e
kmod-atl1
I have just installed these with yum - but no new hardware appears in the network gui dialogue. Am I missing some step here - or is there another driver I should be looking for.
I am unable to find Atheros AR8132 PCI-E Ethernet Controller driver for CentOS which is installed on my netbook.
I contacted DELL to provide me the driver and they said that they do not support Linux on netbook and I have to arrange it myself.
I told them that I don't need help in installing I just need the driver file to which they said that they don't have driver for Linux.
NIC is getting detected and works fine on the same netbook (Am dual booting Windows7/CentOS) with Windows7
When I type: ls -l /dev/ it does not show up eth0. Same result with ifconfig. When I type lspci | grep net it does show up something like Atheros Communications AR8132 L1 PCI Gigabit .

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am migrating to Ubuntu and so far I find it superior. But there are a few things that are a little difficult to grasp. The installation of a webcam driver is intricate. I've downloaded the driver ov511-1.65.tar.gz which is applicable to my old and faithful Creative webcam. From [URL] I got the OV511 Installation Instructions:
But I fail at the first step, to become root. This is what I get:
Code:
coco@coco-desktop:~$ su
Contrasea:
su: Fallo de autenticacin
coco@coco-desktop:~$
I tried several times and wrote the password I use to start the session, the only one I have. It doesn't help that you are blind to the results of typing, but I tried again and again. I can't be that wrong always.
Also I can't decompress the driver.
How will i install our webcam driver ,if i don't know what is my cam model.

I've got two USB webcams I'm trying to get running with CentOS 5.4 x86_64. I've downloaded and installed the gspca driver from http://mxhaard.free.fr/spca5xx.html. Running lsusb yields:

Bus 002 Device 002: ID 0ac8:307b Z-Star Microelectronics Corp. USB 1.1 Webcam
I am pretty concerned with my build-in webcam. The problem is, that it does not work properly and I guess that the driver crashes my interrups to access it. The result is, that my system is damn slow, almost unusable. In previous issues of Fedora, I was able to un-install the gspca driver and the system worked fine again. Now, I cannot find this driver - so where is it gone?

View 1 Replies View RelatedThe Fedora 14 (and 13) pwc Philips Webcam Driver.is only supporting 160x120 resolution (and nothing higher such as 640x480). Also not supporting some other things correctly, I suspect.I say so having tested multiple web camera software and either they don't work (because they have no setting for low res) or they do work if settable to low res., but not for any higher res.I also have a working setpwc tool which shows the driver does not support framerate resetting.I have a Toucam and Toucam Pro - same for both. Also these units worked fine under Fedora 11, and under earlier versions even Red Hat 4.But I usually got the latest pwc from Saillaird.org and compiled it to get full support but there are no more current sources there anymore, and the older ones don't compile. But as I am saying under F11 it was fully correct, now under F13 and 14 it is broken.

My mic, on the otherhand, doesn't seem to be nothing too special. It plugs into the back of the computer right next to the speakers. I've searched everywhere for how to fix these, but can't seem to find anything that works. As for my mic, I've tried installing the... linux modules backport, etc... through synaptic, nothing. I've gone through alsamixer, and sound properties. The only thing I can think of, is that the computer isn't reading my mic.
Sorry if this post is kind of scattered, but I've gotten 2 hours of sleep last night, and not able to sleep again, Also, if anyone can point me in a direction of IM services that allow AIM, MSN, and YIM chat support through my friends on the windows OS. I've heard of Skype, but I don't want to seem too demanding to ask them all to download a program just to speak with / see me.
