OpenSUSE Hardware :: GSPCA Webcam Driver Since Last Kernelupdate?
Sep 19, 2010
Last week I got a newer kernel via Yast -> Online Update. Since then, my Logitech webcam does not work anymore. Neither with Skype or Kopete. After starting skype, the output of dmesg is:
gspca: bandwidth not wide enough - trying again ohci_hcd 0000:00:12.0: leak ed f44e30c0 (#81) state 2
When I unplug the webcam and plug it into another USB-port and start skype again, it works most of the time. Sometimes I have to repeat this several times. Wen it works, the output of dmesg is:
usb 7-4: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 2
usb 7-4: New USB device found, idVendor=046d, idProduct=092f
usb 7-4: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=0
usb 7-4: Product: Camera
I have a Logitech Quickcam Pro 4000 webcam which is supposed to work OK with Linux. I use Open SUSE 11.0 and under gqcam I have multiple images. And in black & white. See here: (if the image doesn't show it can be found there: WebcamOpenSuSe on Flickr - Photo Sharing! So, I wonder: is this a problem of gqcam or a driver problem? The only thing that maybe I didn't do right is to install the Gspca/Spca5xx driver found here: HCL/Web Cameras - openSUSE because my camera isn't on the list of UVC compliant webcams. My camera is seen as: Bus 005 Device 002: ID 046d:08b2 Logitech, Inc. QuickCam Pro 4000
I seldom use my Labtec webcam but used to add the community repository and add gspca driver to make it work.I saw today that this repo only now have libv4l in it , is this enough to replace gspca driver? And if so is there and easy way to install it ? (apart from taking it on it's site : home ) (also i saw that qc-usb can be used for some models
On aMSN the webcam works, but it's very very dark, and i can't move the adjusment handlers for some reason. Also, i tried several methods to increase the gamma, but it just won't work...nothing changes.how can i proceed?
Have got Skype running in 64bit SUSE 11.2 but whenever my Philips SPC 900NC Webcam starts Skype crashes. Do I need a driver for the webcam or is it something else causing the problem.
how to find out what driver my webcam is using and where its located the webcam it self works but goes from normal to dark after a minute of use and would like to fix it
ov51x-jpeg rpm was available for opensuse 11.0 and previous versions. I fail to find it for 11.1. My webcam requires it (IIRC it is a creative webcam ... if anybody requires details I can pull it out of my basement).I am comfortable with command-line, however I would prefer not to compile the source code (I am not familiar with compiling kernel modules )
On my Ubuntu (10.04) system, the Ativa SMP-6AS webcam has worked out of the box. On a minimalistic (no gui) Debian Lenny system, it only creates devices for audio (/dev/audio1, /dev/dsp1, /dev/mixer1), but no corresponding /dev/video0 (like it does on Ubuntu). How do I find out what driver it's using on the Ubuntu system so I can install it on the Debian?
I am migrating to Ubuntu and so far I find it superior. But there are a few things that are a little difficult to grasp. The installation of a webcam driver is intricate. I've downloaded the driver ov511-1.65.tar.gz which is applicable to my old and faithful Creative webcam. From [URL] I got the OV511 Installation Instructions:
But I fail at the first step, to become root. This is what I get:
Code: coco@coco-desktop:~$ su Contrasea: su: Fallo de autenticacin coco@coco-desktop:~$
I tried several times and wrote the password I use to start the session, the only one I have. It doesn't help that you are blind to the results of typing, but I tried again and again. I can't be that wrong always.
I am pretty concerned with my build-in webcam. The problem is, that it does not work properly and I guess that the driver crashes my interrups to access it. The result is, that my system is damn slow, almost unusable. In previous issues of Fedora, I was able to un-install the gspca driver and the system worked fine again. Now, I cannot find this driver - so where is it gone?
I need to bring an old philips usb webcam back to life using the PWC and PWCX drivers on a 2.4 kernel.. I found the PWC driver but the PWCX drivers.. can't find them anywhere they used to be available for download on the webcam nemosoft.. but it seems like they are no longer there anyone have this old driver laying around? File name should be something like pwcx-8.4.tar.gz.I googled it but little luck so far..
In my CentOS5.4, I can found the v4l2: integrated Camera in the aMSN, and the Camera1 in the Channels But I can not run it How cam make my webcam work?
The microdia driver although notprovided by the manufacturer or ubuntu was available online and supported upto 9.10...but not instead of supporting it natively the support has been completely removed...i am able to compile the driver but it doesnt get inserteda complaint was also made on the launchpad bugs section and the ubuntu brainstorm page also but no action seems to have taken.....
The Fedora 14 (and 13) pwc Philips Webcam Driver.is only supporting 160x120 resolution (and nothing higher such as 640x480). Also not supporting some other things correctly, I suspect.I say so having tested multiple web camera software and either they don't work (because they have no setting for low res) or they do work if settable to low res., but not for any higher res.I also have a working setpwc tool which shows the driver does not support framerate resetting.I have a Toucam and Toucam Pro - same for both. Also these units worked fine under Fedora 11, and under earlier versions even Red Hat 4.But I usually got the latest pwc from Saillaird.org and compiled it to get full support but there are no more current sources there anymore, and the older ones don't compile. But as I am saying under F11 it was fully correct, now under F13 and 14 it is broken.
I did some research on both Mic and Webcam, but nothing for the mic seems to work, and I can't seem to find decent instructions for installing the spca5xx driver for my webcam. lsusb result for my webcam: Bus 001 Device 002: ID 04fc:0561 Sunplus Technology Co., Ltd Flexcam 100
My mic, on the otherhand, doesn't seem to be nothing too special. It plugs into the back of the computer right next to the speakers. I've searched everywhere for how to fix these, but can't seem to find anything that works. As for my mic, I've tried installing the... linux modules backport, etc... through synaptic, nothing. I've gone through alsamixer, and sound properties. The only thing I can think of, is that the computer isn't reading my mic.
Sorry if this post is kind of scattered, but I've gotten 2 hours of sleep last night, and not able to sleep again, Also, if anyone can point me in a direction of IM services that allow AIM, MSN, and YIM chat support through my friends on the windows OS. I've heard of Skype, but I don't want to seem too demanding to ask them all to download a program just to speak with / see me.
I'm using Logitech WebCam on fedora 11 and running webcam server to capture the images on the browser.. it works fine but the image quality is poor...could anyone suggest me how to change the image quality by passing parameters via command line??I tested Video quality on cheese as well, which is poor too..I searched a lot in google for a solution but no use... i got some patch but couldn't install that since the gspca driver on my fedora 11 is in-built..

Im trying to connect my webcam (Trust 16175) to a Debian 5 box:
Installed:
And with no luck - as I see it the correct driver is not loaded - Using "modprobe gspca" makes no different. I have seen in some papers that the 093a:2621 is supported by gspca. How do I get it to work?
i have sony viao vgn-fz11 Can someone please help ,im new user to ubuntu been trying to get webcam working properly at the moment its upside down and does not work in skype at all just get black screen does this look correct? do i have the right driver?i will try and give as much information as i can.
I have a problem making work a webcam. At the begining, after the instalation of 10.04 in a new laptop, the webcam did not work but with a lsusb I see that the webcam was Webcam 5986:0241 acer. I was not able to config neither use the webcam with any application. After lots of test and forums reading I could not do my webcam to work, and now when I do a lsusb my webcam does not appear.
Is it normal that the free Mesa driver is alot faster than the ATI propietary driver?, at least for desktop usage. That is, using both latest drivers, 9.11 and 7.7
There is one thing missing (I think) a clear guide to clearing out Nvidia and replacing it with nouveau. For all but hardened gamers, nouveau on 11.4 delivers. It also removes one more barrier to what I think is the intended goad of Tumbleweed. The problem IMHO is not that there are no clear guides. The problem is there are too many. No sooner does one person do a guide (that is clear) and someone else who does not like some point writes another guide that they think is more clear (but in fact is less clear in other aspects). And this goes on ad infinitum.IMHO we have too many guides - many of which are sufficient clear ... but the VAST number only serves to confuse users more.
Having typed that, IMHO this is NOT a Tumbleweed specific issue, but its MUCH WIDER in scope and hence does not belong as a discussion in this Tumbleweed thread.
I have a Hp 2-megapixel webcam and wanted to use on opensuse 11.1 I look around and search for threads in this forum for webcam issues but can't find an exact solution. Tried to detect the webcam with lsusb and the result is:

I posted hoping someone out there successfully made this beast work. If anyone have an idea or link to a workaround,
