I have been searching for ages for graphics drivers for my ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 graphics card. I have several software that need hardware accelerated 3D. I found several threads that deal with this issue, but none of them seems to help. I tried the following:

I rebooted after each one and I still cannot get any hardware accelerated 3D; it is as if I installed nothing.
Okay, I've got a small webcam for my laptop that doesn't come with Linux drivers, only Windows drivers. Any linux-based drivers that came with Ubuntu 9.04 that might work don't. How do I make the Windows drivers for the webcam work with the hardware so I can use the webcam?

I've been trying to install all the drivers for my laptop that I recently installed Ubuntu on and I've been having trouble installing the driver for my webcam.
I followed the instructions on Ubuntu Documentation > Community Documentation > Ov51x (sorry but I can't post links) but I'm having trouble with preparing the installation files with the "make" command.
This is the message I keep getting:

Also, as an aside, I often get the message when I'm trying to install a package that it is "Unable to locate pack ______".

View 4 Replies View RelatedI would like to install Ubuntu 10 on my Thinkpad T400, but would like feedback from other T400 users that have Ubuntu running on their laptops. First, will it recognize all my hardware? I hear most Thinkpad users had issues with video and webcam drivers, but that was with an earlier version of Ubuntu 8 through 9. So my plan is to have Ubuntu 10 as my primary OS on the T400 and use Win7 within VMware.

I have a Philips webcam I would like to get to work with a proper driver on Ubuntu 10.04. It will work under a generic driver on programs such as Skype, but as soon as I try to use it for web cam sites such as BlogTV, it will say "Webcam required on this site."I have seen similar posts on this and other websites, pointing towards SPCA, but everything I have tried has not worked. When trying SPCA, I tried to do install on the terminal and all that would happen is terminal would respond with: "0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 1 not upgraded."Is there an easier method I am missing here, or is there something am I doing wrong?

I am recently trying to get a steady wireless connection running. I am currently using the default settings/driver Fedora 13 is stocked with. As my internet browsing is somewhat up and down in load times, I decided to check in a video game which is generally a good test for me. haha I am harshly spiking and cannot find the source of my problem so my guess is a driver issue.

On my Ubuntu (10.04) system, the Ativa SMP-6AS webcam has worked out of the box. On a minimalistic (no gui) Debian Lenny system, it only creates devices for audio (/dev/audio1, /dev/dsp1, /dev/mixer1), but no corresponding /dev/video0 (like it does on Ubuntu). My Ubuntu WAS working perfectly. I started to tweak with the eye candy. "Advanced Desktop Effects Settings (ccsm)." As I was reading some of the forums, I also thought I would give KDE a try and add it to my system. I was experimenting (so I don't know what exactly I was modifying) when at some point I noticed that in the upper right hand corner of my windows (where "minimize window, maximize window and close window buttons" exist), each time I went to click on the close window button, my system froze and I had to do a hard reboot. At that point, I uninstalled all things KDE. Still had the same issue. Then I uninstalled ccsm.
At this point, the maximize, minimize and close buttons were GONE!! I finally figured out, I had to RIGHT CLICK DESKTOP >> CHANGE DESKTOP BACKGROUND >>TAB TO VISUAL EFFECTS >> SELECT "NONE" This returned my system back to a useable state with the max, min and close buttons. Then I tried again to enable the effects, and suddenly my max, min, close buttons again disappeared. I also got a window that was searching for drivers. None could be found. I had to then turn effects off again.
After that, Ive been trying to completely uninstall and reinstall: drivers, KDE, ccsm, hardware drivers (jockey-gtk and jockey-kde). I tried installing each of them seperately, together, and in various combinations and now it seems like the more I try the worse it gets (before, it would search for drivers... now it just tells me "desktop effects could not be enabled" I know there is probably an easy fix to restoring my drivers... but I can't figure it out. It would be easy to just reinstall... but then I gotta go back to my IT person to add the network key at my work and redo all my settings. Ubuntu 9.10 64-bit on a Dell Inspiron 1420 laptop
