OpenSUSE Hardware :: No More Ov51x-jpeg Webcam Module/driver In 11.1?
Jan 22, 2009
ov51x-jpeg rpm was available for opensuse 11.0 and previous versions. I fail to find it for 11.1. My webcam requires it (IIRC it is a creative webcam ... if anybody requires details I can pull it out of my basement).I am comfortable with command-line, however I would prefer not to compile the source code (I am not familiar with compiling kernel modules )

I'm trying to install ov51x-jpeg-source using module assistant but it fails with....
make[3]: Entering directory `/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.26-2-686'
make[3]: Makefile: No such file or directory
make[3]: *** No rule to make target `Makefile'. Stop.
make[3]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.26-2-686'
make[2]: *** [all] Error 2
[Code]...
it also stops at the same point when trying to install another driver, /usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.26-2-686 does exist

I am trying to install the ov51x jpeg 0.5.3 driver for Sony's EyeToy cam on PS2 Linux BlackRhino kernel 2.4.17 which has video4linux 1 enabled and the ov511 driver loaded as a module (which I DO NOT load wen the ov51x driver is loaded).
So - When I install 1.65-1.10-mark from [url] everything goes well and the video device /dev/ps2video0 can be oppened with mplayer or effectv, but the video screen is black with only a line in the top end on black and white dots - similar to what tv-s show when there is no signal.
Using the 1.65-1.11-mark driver and anything above including ov51x jpeg drivers up to 0.5.4 (after 0.5.4 kernel 2.4 is not supported) the video device is not found. - "No such device".
When unloading this module there is a message "kernel panic bad unregister" and none of the input devices works untill the PS2 is restarted. This also happens when I unplug the camera.
In other words - there is some change in 1.65-1.11 that makes the driver not work.

Last week I got a newer kernel via Yast -> Online Update. Since then, my Logitech webcam does not work anymore. Neither with Skype or Kopete. After starting skype, the output of dmesg is:
gspca: bandwidth not wide enough - trying again ohci_hcd 0000:00:12.0: leak ed f44e30c0 (#81) state 2
When I unplug the webcam and plug it into another USB-port and start skype again, it works most of the time. Sometimes I have to repeat this several times. Wen it works, the output of dmesg is:
usb 7-4: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 2
usb 7-4: New USB device found, idVendor=046d, idProduct=092f
usb 7-4: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=0
usb 7-4: Product: Camera

When I try to load the Realtek 8187 modules to kernel using the ./wlan1up command, I get the following error:
[root@localhost rtl8187_linux_26.1025.0328.2007]# ./wlan1up
insmod: error inserting 'ieee80211_crypt-rtl.ko': -1 File exists
[code]...
Can someone tell me how to correct the "Invalid module format"? I hope that correcting the "Invalid module format" error, I will not have the "Unknown symbol in module" error.
Note: I am using wlan1 for this module as I previously am online with the wlan0 network. The same error occurs if I use ./wlan0up.

I am running openSUSE 11.1 with modified Kernel. While trying to run make on the downloaded driver for the RTL2831 I am getting an error message that I do not full understand. That is:
Code:
linux-2c5j:~/rtl2831-r2 # make
make -C /root/rtl2831-r2/v4l
make[1]: Entering directory `/root/rtl2831-r2/v4l'
No version yet, using 3.0.4-41-desktop
[code]...
I am not sure what is required when the error is "first use this function". How can I use the function T_DIGITAL_TV if I first have to install my driver in order to use the stick?

My gentoo laptop doesn't have a serial port, so I got a usb-serial (RS-232) adapter from ebay. However when I plug it in, the only thing dmesg mentiones is: Code:usb 5-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 2I've tried to look for a kernel driver in "make menuconfig" by pressing "/" and typing 232. Nothing about RS-232. Device Drivers -> Character drivers -> Serial drivers has 8250 and UART as a module. Device Drivers -> USB support -> USB serial converter support has in-kernel: USB generic serial driver, and FTDI Single port driver as a module, but it still isn't getting recognized. Is there some module i forgot to enable, or do i have to download a separate module from somewhere?

I am on Ubuntu Lucid (updated till date). I am using Kernel Linux 2.6.32-24-generic Recently I am not being able to run Cheese (webcam tool). When run it is crashing. Upon starting it from prompt I noticed the following error : libv4lconvert: Error decompressing JPEG: fill_nbits error: need 2 more bits The program 'cheese' received an X Window System error. This probably reflects a bug in the program. The error was 'BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)'.

I checked in Skype and there the webcam is working fine. I tried with Camorama but that always gives an error "Could not connect to /dev/video0, please check connections."

Just installed OpenSUSE 11.3 64-bit. I have a program that uses libjpeg, so I installed libjpeg and the dev modules. It has both version 6 and 8 installed. When I run my prog and try to access the lib I get this error: Wrong JPEG library version: library is 80, caller expects 62 This seems a common problem elsewhere. Anyone know how to fix it in 11.3 ?

On my Ubuntu (10.04) system, the Ativa SMP-6AS webcam has worked out of the box. On a minimalistic (no gui) Debian Lenny system, it only creates devices for audio (/dev/audio1, /dev/dsp1, /dev/mixer1), but no corresponding /dev/video0 (like it does on Ubuntu). How do I find out what driver it's using on the Ubuntu system so I can install it on the Debian?

I am migrating to Ubuntu and so far I find it superior. But there are a few things that are a little difficult to grasp. The installation of a webcam driver is intricate. I've downloaded the driver ov511-1.65.tar.gz which is applicable to my old and faithful Creative webcam. From [URL] I got the OV511 Installation Instructions:
But I fail at the first step, to become root. This is what I get:
Code:
coco@coco-desktop:~$ su
Contrasea:
su: Fallo de autenticacin
coco@coco-desktop:~$
I tried several times and wrote the password I use to start the session, the only one I have. It doesn't help that you are blind to the results of typing, but I tried again and again. I can't be that wrong always.
Also I can't decompress the driver.

I am pretty concerned with my build-in webcam. The problem is, that it does not work properly and I guess that the driver crashes my interrups to access it. The result is, that my system is damn slow, almost unusable. In previous issues of Fedora, I was able to un-install the gspca driver and the system worked fine again. Now, I cannot find this driver - so where is it gone?

I've installed openSuse 11.4 server-mode (text only) on my desktop, and I'm trying to configure IceWM so i'll eventually have it set up so it always boots into text only mode, but I could be able to quickly start icewm via the command line.using Yast, I installed the Xorg server, and icewm.when I type X, the screen goes black and it just doesn't seem to do anythingI found if I hit ctrl+alt+f1 it kinda puts me back into text only mode, but I can't put in commands anymore. The last thing it says on the screen is:
Failed to load module "fglrx" (module does not exist, 0)
I've goggled that error message and the discussions that popped up around it made no sense to me at all. I've never configured X from scratch before, can someone point me towards a tutorial or something?
