View 1 RepliesI have Centos5.4 loaded on a late 2008 MACBOOK Pro and would like to get wireless working. I've attempted to download the broadcom driver and create a driver module with no luck.

When I make the WLAN driver, I get this:
Since my Asus WL-3300 seems to be having trouble, I bought a USB adapter -- a Linksys WUSB54G ver 4. Version 4 was apparently important because it came with a Ralink 2570 chip -- and that's supposed to work with Linux (which is why I chose it).I think it will work because, without loading any drivers, Net Manager can see the local routers (about seven of them). But when I choose mine, though it asks for a WEP key, it never connects. I'm not sure now what driver is loading that *almost* works with it. But I think I may still need to load the driver from: URl...But when you read the page it says that the driver has entered the "Mainline Kernel" -- and I'm wondering if that is why the adaptor almost works. So the questions:
1) Without a driver, should this Ralink 2570 be working at all?
2) How do I find what driver *is* loading?
3) Modprobe doesn't seem to be able to find any rt25x00 module, is this right -- or is there some other name I should be looking for?
iwlink scan, ifconfig, etc., all see the adapter as wlan0.lsusb shows the adapter.I'm going to keep searching, but wrote this in case there is something really simple that I'm overlooking.
When I try to load the Realtek 8187 modules to kernel using the ./wlan1up command, I get the following error:
[root@localhost rtl8187_linux_26.1025.0328.2007]# ./wlan1up
insmod: error inserting 'ieee80211_crypt-rtl.ko': -1 File exists
[code]...
Can someone tell me how to correct the "Invalid module format"? I hope that correcting the "Invalid module format" error, I will not have the "Unknown symbol in module" error.
Note: I am using wlan1 for this module as I previously am online with the wlan0 network. The same error occurs if I use ./wlan0up.
how to find the driver module name using MAJOR NUMBER. In general major number list is available in Documentation/devices.txt but if i want to find out the driver module name specific for a given MAJOR NUMBER, what can be done?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to find a driver for my wireless card (Atheros AR928X) and I think it's ath9k what I need. As far as I know there isn't a linux driver for it, so I installed ndiswrapper to use a windows driver instead. The problem is that when I type modprobe ndiswrapper I get "bash: modprobe: command not found" (even as root). I know I'm missing something about modprobe, but I can't find any help on google. Anyway, I installed ndisgtk next, because I thought it would be easier, but when I go to System> Administration> Windows Wireless Drivers I get a message "Unknown error".Do you have any ideas on how I'll make ndiswrapper work?

I contacted DELL to provide me the driver and they said that they do not support Linux on netbook and I have to arrange it myself.
I told them that I don't need help in installing I just need the driver file to which they said that they don't have driver for Linux.
NIC is getting detected and works fine on the same netbook (Am dual booting Windows7/CentOS) with Windows7
When I type: ls -l /dev/ it does not show up eth0. Same result with ifconfig. When I type lspci | grep net it does show up something like Atheros Communications AR8132 L1 PCI Gigabit .
In C++ or C, is there anyway to detect the name of the module or driver currently used by a network interface card (either wired or wireless, INCLUDING USB DEVICES)?My application must have this feature. I just want to detect whether the module / driver is ndiswrapper or not.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a newly installed CentOS 5.4 on Gigabyte G31M-ES2C, I had to change the motherboard since it has some problems. Unfortunately the new motherboard is a rev 2.x board, which has a different onboard NIC (old one is RTL 8102E, new one is AR8132), so now my ethernet connection doesn't work anymore (no eth0 device), I assume I need to install a new driver for the AR8132? If so, what's the steps to do so?lspci shows Ethernet controller as: Attansic Technology Corp. Atheros AR8132 / L1c Gigabit Ethernet Adapter (rev c0)

On Linux Mint (Gnome) i used to go to Network drive. that is on the right hand side of Nautilus there is a short cut for Network. in there i could see my network hard drive and other laptops connected to the network, and i could access my files. but on OpenSuse, when i open the network folder, nothing comes up. may be it needs some sort of configuration.

I'm assuming that it can't find a driver for a cdrom - but I am not too sure of that.
When i put the command: /etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup for install it it say this:
Stopping VirtualBox kernel module [ OK ]
Recompiling VirtualBox kernel module [FAILED]
(Look at /var/log/vbox-install.log to find out what went wrong)
[root@server ~]#
and
the log:
Makefile:185: *** Unable to find the folder to install the support driver to. Stop.
I opened a socket with sock_create()... bind() listen() accept().
Then, the far end closes the connection.
I want to close the near end, so I can re-open for the next connection.
But there is no close(), and sock_release() crashes the kernel.
I am trying to clone a working Centos 5.4 system onto a new box with a ASUS P5KPL-CM motherboard. I have done so by plugging in a Realtec lan card - but can't get the motherboard lan working. Googling tells me the motherboard has a Atheros L1E lan chip - but I have installed several kmod drivers from ELREPO - but still can't get the on-board lan working. So far I have installed:
kmod-atl1e
kmod-atl1
I have just installed these with yum - but no new hardware appears in the network gui dialogue. Am I missing some step here - or is there another driver I should be looking for.
