CentOS 5 :: Startx Can't Find The Intel Driver
Nov 20, 2009I've got a 64-bit CentOS 5 setup and I'm trying to run startx, but when I do I get:
I tried changing the display driver to i810 in xorg.conf but it can't find that module either.

Dec 31, 2009I've a Centos 5.1 server on S5000vsa Intel board with 6 bay HD in raid 1 mode (2 HD), and working fine until I've decide to make a yum update. Today the Centos is 5.4 but seems necesssary to upgrade the megasr driver for the raid function (i.e. , is not possible to contact the raid firmware trought Web Console 2). I've download the last megasr driver from Intel and I follow the instruction to upgrade the driver with s.o. installed, but when I start the server and choose via grub the new img boot file, the display show :
megasr.ko invalid module format -1 and stop. The linux version is the same in the machine (uname -a) and from the driver (2.6.18-164.9.1.el5). Another question : in Intel instruction spoken about megasr.o , but on img file I found a megasr.ko . I think instructions referre to old linux 2.4

Jan 11, 2011I had a problem with my laptop which is dell studio 1569 wireless card is as shown above intel centrino advanced n-6200. I had ubuntu before and it worked very well but with centos and oracle enterprise linux (not unbreakable) it does not work at all? And also the graphics card not fully configured I knew that when I tried an opengl apps?

May 11, 2011Unfortunately I've had no luck with using the default intel driver. It's strange really, you can see the gnome screen for a split second then it turns the display off like it's activating the external monitor or something. If I change the driver to vesa everything is fine.

CentOS 5 Networking :: Intel(R) PRO / Wireless 2200 / 2915 Driver Doesn't Work
May 31, 2009Wireless networking doesn't seem to work. When I try to create a new network interface with system-config-network, my wireless card doesn't show up. The following comes from dmesg:

CentOS 5 Hardware :: Intel Video Driver Problem With Mobile 4 Express (GM45) Chipset Using X11?
Aug 10, 2009Perhaps someone has run across this problem I loaded CentOS 5.3 on an AOpen MP45-BDR workstation. It uses the Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipset for the video graphics. It is officially identified as: GM45 chipset (Intel GMA X4500 MHD).
There are two problems. Using the "intel" video driver, the X11 server does not appear to support digital video cable (DVI interface). It is also stuck in 1024x768 resolution and I want it to display in 1280x1024 resolution. Using a DVI cable, the system boots and displays properly (GRUB and boot messages) until the X11 server starts, then the signal is lost. The system is configured with a dual boot (Windows XP Pro) and Windows operates properly and supports all of the features of the video graphics chipset (DVI and full resolution). So the hardware is ok.
The "intel" video driver has a description of "Experimental ..." so maybe there is an update to this driver or a replacement driver that supports this chipset. I checked the buglist and found CentOS bug ID 2951 which is somewhat similar. The user was utilizing the "intel" video driver and it locked his system but changing the driver to i810 was a work-around. My system does not lock. I did try the i810 video driver but the X server did not like it - it would not start. This makes sense since the description of this driver specifies support for the older Intel onboard chipsets.

As far as I know there isn't a linux driver for it, so I installed ndiswrapper to use a windows driver instead. The problem is that when I type modprobe ndiswrapper I get "bash: modprobe: command not found" (even as root). I know I'm missing something about modprobe, but I can't find any help on google. Anyway, I installed ndisgtk next, because I thought it would be easier, but when I go to System> Administration> Windows Wireless Drivers I get a message "Unknown error".Do you have any ideas on how I'll make ndiswrapper work?

I have done so by plugging in a Realtec lan card - but can't get the motherboard lan working. Googling tells me the motherboard has a Atheros L1E lan chip - but I have installed several kmod drivers from ELREPO - but still can't get the on-board lan working. So far I have installed:

I have just installed these with yum - but no new hardware appears in the network gui dialogue. Am I missing some step here - or is there another driver I should be looking for.

Oct 1, 2010I have installed xubuntu 10.04 on a HP Pavilion dv1049ea and am having trouble installing the drivers for the graphics card. When installing i had to use the boot option -xforcevesa in order to get the screen working. Now that it is installed there is constant screen flicker but apart from that all other aspects of the system are working fine. In the display menu i am unable to change the refresh rate. How do i change the running driver from vesa to the correct intel driver? The graphics card is an Intel Graphics 82852/82855.

Oct 26, 2009I tried to kind of beautify my CentOS 5.3. So I kind of break some rules ( like compiling tar balls.. ). To cut it short, I installed avant window navigator ( source, compile, etc ). Before that I also installed compiz ( which made my desktop kind of much more *alive* ). Problem is there are some bugs on AWN, then I think my webcam got affected too ( not showing proper display ). I then decided to uninstall compiz thru YUM. After this, restarted my system, then whooppss my Gnome, won't load properly. the AWN was gone, then the bottom part of my desktop was just black. I only got a top menu, which whatever application I open there's no top bar on it ( where you see the name of the window ). Also every application just shows up on my upper left corner of the screen. So I definitely broke it. So I switched to another session ( Ctrl Alt F2 ) then went into a terminal. I tried to load again another X Session ( Ctrl Alt F8/F9 ), but nothing comes up, am I doing that wrong?
Now in cases like this where the GUI is not loading correctly, what work-arounds are usually made? I did some tweaks by guessing everything will kind of reset by renaming my gnome hidden folders, but no luck. What to do on this situations? Is it possible to kind of switch to pure terminal session, uninstall whole Gnome package there, remove some settings, reinstall Gnome and everything will be ok again? Or is it possible if Gnome is broke like kind of start a KDE session? How's this things relate to XOrg11.conf something? Could anyone just give like some overview like which sits on top of what.
Since I can't fix my problem yesterday I just reformatted laptop and reinstalled 5.3 with Virtualization checked, and I noticed my kernel says "xen". I thought of trying this builtin virtualization software because I had problems with VMWare before also.

I've the Intel Corporation 82801CAM (ICH3) PRO/100 VE (LOM) Ethernet Controller also a wireless slot (I've the wireless card DWL-G650+) When I turn on the pc and I go to "Ethernet Device", I see set: peth0 (Intel Corporation 82801CAM (ICH3) PRO/100 VE (LOM) ETHERNET CONTROLLER) and also set "Bind to MAC address": fe:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff I've set manually the IP address (I'm under router). Status is "Active" but can't go on the Net. When I change to "eth0 (Intel EtherExpress/100 driver)...sometimes become "Active" an other times said that the MAC address is different or to check the cable because can't find the IP. Apr 18, 2011I've been using it since it was put on current and have been having X crash on me repeatedly or getting a black screen from which I can only recover by a hard reboot. This is happening under a couple of different WMs without compositing (so this isn't the same issue that I was having with KDE and xscreensaver).
I'm using the i915 driver with stock 2.6.37.6, but I also tried a 2.6.38.2 kernel but had the same problem with both.

Slackware :: Intel Driver Isn't Being Used And KDE Slow?
Mar 4, 2010I upgraded to -current last night hoping to improve my Intel 845G graphics controllers functioning in X, I've had to use the vesa driver for stability. The upgrade was completed but KDE seems as slow as ever. Here's some snippets from Xorg.0.log:

CentOS 5 Hardware :: Hosed Intel DP35DP Centos 5.3 Upgrade?
Jul 10, 2009I have an intel DP35DP motherboard - ICH9 southbridge - set to AHCI mode. Working fine under 5.2. Yesterday I updated to centos 5.3, and got kernel 2.6.18-128.1.16 and now it can't boot. It hangs trying to read sata1 with DRDY errors and exceptions.So then I installed 5.3 from a DVD onto a new drive, and got kernel 2.6.18-128. This worked, most of the time, but occasionally gave me this error. I then updated my BIOS, and the error went away.Then I updated this new working drive to the latest kernel (yum update again) and got kernel 2.6.18-128.1.16, and now it wont boot again, with the same message.

Feb 24, 2011I have a Asus 54G43-Pro mobo with Intel GMA G43 video chip on it. It works fine in Ubuntu and using the same display with the same settings, under Maverick in comparison with Lucid, the video is a little more sharp and with more contrast. I have dual boot with Windows and in Windows it is even less sharp and contrast.
In Windows I can tune the sharpness, contrast, etc but I was not able to find a simlar features in Ubuntu. I have checked the Synaptic and even installed some Intel GMA files but I still have no access on tuning the video driver. Is this possible in Ubuntu and possible to be hidden somewhere or I can just forget about it?
