Ubuntu Networking :: Install AE1000 Rt2870 On Xubuntu?
Mar 6, 2011
Alright yall, I just got my wireless usb device to work on ubuntu 10.10. I did alot of searching and I finally figured it out. this is what I did.
1.Download the linux drivers from this post, its called Ralink_RT3572USB_drv2400.zip
2.Extract them to a directory.
3.Make sure you have build-essential installed on your computer. you can do this by opening a terminal
and typing
Code:
sudo apt-get install build-essential
4.Now install linux headers so that you can compile the drivers.
Code:
sudo apt-get install linux-headers-$(uname -r)
5.Now in your terminal goto where you extracted the Ralink_RT3572USB_drv2400 files.
once in that directory type

Here is the situation: I am currently running Ubuntu 10.10 64 bit. I'm trying to get my Linksys AE1000 to run correctly. I have followed many tutorials but most notably was:[URL].. lsmod shows that rt3572sta is loaded. network manager in gnome is able to find my router. my problem occurs when it tries to connect to the router using wpa2 security. It continually asks for the wireless password then will freeze the system after a number of attempts. After digging in for a bit, I was able to dig out a dmesg trapping the error:
BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at ffffcfb0138af1ec
IP: [<ffffffffa021c7e8>] Cntl0idRTBssidProc+0x78/0x570 [rt3572sta]
PGD 0
Oops: 0000 [#1] SMP
last sysfs file: /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu7/cache/index2/shared_cpu_map
CPU 2
I really don't see the need to continue on with those error messages lsmod still shows rt3572sta after the failure. In case anyone wants to see the changes I have made to the files before the make, I have included them. but changed the extension to "txt" to accommodate the up-loader and my rt_linux is too big to fit here, just not that it was 2 lines that were changed to work with the kernel. If anyone wants to know what I mean by the system freezes, I do mean just that. The mouse will continue to work, but I am then unable to open any programs, unable to reboot the computer. it requires a hard reset.
I have uninstalled the drivers, installed them, make them, make install them, make clean, start from scratch a few times, and am getting no give here.

I have managed to compile and install the driver for my linksys AE1000 adapter. I can scan and see my network (and several others) but can't seem to connect. I have read a few threads looking for clues but I can't seem to figure it out. My kernel is 2.6.35-24-generic and I am using the latest rt3572 driver (v2.5.0.0). Here are a couple of steps that I have taken:
1) The usb driver does work properly and connect on a Windows machine.
2) Temporarily removed security from my router (uses WPA2). Still can't connect.
3) Tried compiling and installing the previous version of the driver (2.4.0.2)

I recently purchased the Linksys AE1000 wireless USB network adapter. After some struggles, I found and installed the Ralink_RT3572USB_drv2400 driver for it and it now works, however it won't turn on when I boot up the computer. I have to manually unplug and then plug the adapter back in for it to work again. I followed the instructions on this how to for installing the driver.

Ok so I tried to follow the directions here: [URL] However, I couldn't find 2010_0915_RT3572_Linux_STA_v2.4.0.2.tar.bz2. Instead, the closest I could find was 2011_0407_RT3070_RT3370_RT5370_RT5372_Linux_STA_V2 .5.0.2_DPO.bz2, so I tried it. I edited config.mk and rtusb_dev_id.c as chili555 advised. I tried to edit linux_rt.h, however, the only file I saw was rt_linux.h. I edited it according to chili555's post, message #7. I went back to the root directory of the extracted .bz2 file and did

I was thinking of creating an extremely minimal version of Xubuntu using XFCE. I have a Dell Mini 9, a netbook that uses a wireless-g card requiring bcmwl-kernel-source to work. What I would like to do is use either the alternate CD or mini.iso minimal install file to perform a command line install-style installation of the system. So far, what I am thinking (from reading this [url].... article:
HTML Code:
http:[url].....is to start off with these packages to begin with:
xorg
slim (if possible with 9.10, unsure if it is still available. in short, i want to use a lightweight display manager)
xfce4
xfce4-goodies
xubuntu-default-settings
bcmwl-kernel-source
aptitude
My opening questions are: Should I go with mini.iso or the Xubuntu Alternate Install CD (or the Ubuntu one)? If so, which one? What additional packages will I need to make the hardware accessible and fully functional? All I can think of so far would be sound (I'd like to stay away from PulseAudio if possible, it wreaks havoc with my computer), my webcam, and the memory card slot, if additional packages are needed for it?What other "core" packages should I include in this list? Should I include Synaptic, or other packages, and why? What do I need to take into consideration, since this is both a directly- and battery-powered computer?

I've compiled and installed my rt2870sta.ko and the firmware to the correct locations but my ubuntu 10.10 is loading the one under
/lib/modules/2.6.38-25-generic/kernel/drivers/staging/rt2870/rt2870sta.ko.
How do I get it to use the correct driver? I've attached a screenshot of the module info.

I have a Sparklan WUBR-502GN USB dongle with the RT2870 chip. It has worked, (with a little effort) of previous installs of 9.04, 9.10, 10.04 and 10.10. However it refuses to work in 11.04. I followed the same procedures, (blacklisting, confirming device ID, modifying config.mk and rt_linux.h, sudo make & make install and removing staging/rt2870), outlined in past forum articles and that worked in the previous RCs, but the connection to my home network will not complete. Has something changed in 11.04 that is substantially different from past releases?
P.S. the only thing I havent done, since 11.04 was only installed moments before, is do the build essential and headers.

I don't want to resort to reloading Windows just because of this!I've managed to install the RT2870.inf driver for my Belkin wireless adaptor but couldn't install the sys file. Hence my adaptor still won't work - well I think this is why but hoping someone can enlighten me step by step.

Does anyone know why there is such a delay this time? Or if there is a workaround

I have recently installed Fedora 10 onto my PC, dual booting with XP, and I am fairly new to linux. I have been trying to connect to my wireless network, but cannot even get Fedora to recognise my wireless adapter (Belkin N1 +MIMO). I have tried to follow a few tutorials that go through either the ndiswrapper method or by using native drivers. Because I don't have an internet connection on Fedora, I have to boot into XP to download the files for either ndiswrapper or the native drivers, rather than installing using the terminal.I downloaded the ndiswrapper RPM, and it failed because of an 'unexpected error', and when using the tarball, it could not find the makefile. The native drivers did not install because of unresolved dependencies.

I recently got an AE1000 USB Wireless adapter... In researching how to get it to work under Linux, I came across some helpful information on URL... that advised on how to download the ralink ra3572sta driver, which I did, and managed to successfully compile and install (for sake of reference, I'm using Slackware 13 with the 2.6.33-4 x86_64 kernel)
Suffice it to say I tried several other combinations of ra0 up and down, etc. My best luck came from editing the /etc/Wireless/RT2870STA/RT2870STA.dat file as suggested by the readme for the ralink driver, which lets me successfully "set" the essid for the adapter, but it doesn't associate the access point or receive any data, etc... Basically the only function that seems to be working is scanning for APs. Apparently this driver works under other distros like Fedora/Ubuntu that use NetworkManager, but I can't figure out why its not working for Slackware. The thought occurred to me to try the driver under 32bit distro and see if theres any difference, but wondered if anyone here had any experience with this adapter or could offer some advice to point me in the right direction on this one?

I can get a dual band cisco ae1000 to work with fedora 15, but the same steps taken on opensuse don't work. Has anyone managed to get this card working on opensuse 11.4 x64? If so, I've tried compiling a driver and using the repo for an rt3572sta. neither worked. The way i hacked the program (following a fedora forum) worked in fedora but not opensuse. I've tried blacklisting cards and making sure the module loads on boot.

I've been getting it up and running with Xubuntu. Xubuntu 9.10 just won't install--the screen goes blank and the computer locks up, with either the regular or the alternate install CD. I gather that this isn't an unknown issue in 9.10, so I'm installing 9.04 instead and I'll just wait until 10.04 comes out. Xubuntu 9.04 installs and runs like a charm. This is an HP Pavilion ze4125, with 768MB of RAM and an ATI Radeon IGP 320M video card. When I enter "sudo su -c "lspci | grep VGA", it returns "01:05.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility U1".
So what I want to do now is install the best driver I can so I can make the most of the video card. XP let me use any number of high resolutions, but the Display icon in Xubuntu tops out at 1024x768. EnvyNG doesn't offer. anything compatible with my video card. I've tried installing ati-driver-installer-9-3-x86.x86_64 and ati-driver-installer-9-12-x86.x86_64, but both say "Extraction failed" (I was running them with gdm stopped). So, is there something specific I should be doing to get access to higher resolutions, or a driver I need to install? This is easy on my main computer, which has an NVidia card, so I can use the NVIDIA X Server Settings utility to adjust the resolution--but obviously this machine doesn't have an NVidia card.

Basically I have some Linux experience and have got myself an "old-but-good-machine".
I'm sure the Xubuntu 10.04 cd is OK as I can boot into it with my Windows laptop.
But... for whatever reason I can't boot it under the Live CD or Install options in my old computer?
As soon as I hit one of the options the monitor switches off after a few seconds?
I've tested the computer with a live backtrack cd and gparted live cd which both run fine so it must be something I'm missing in Xubuntu.
