OpenSUSE Wireless :: Get A Dual Band Cisco Ae1000 To Work With Fedora 15?
Jun 21, 2011
I can get a dual band cisco ae1000 to work with fedora 15, but the same steps taken on opensuse don't work. Has anyone managed to get this card working on opensuse 11.4 x64? If so, I've tried compiling a driver and using the repo for an rt3572sta. neither worked. The way i hacked the program (following a fedora forum) worked in fedora but not opensuse. I've tried blacklisting cards and making sure the module loads on boot.

I'm trying to install a Linksys WUSB600n dual-band USB wireless-N adapter onto a desktop system with opensuse 11.1 installed; this system will be migrating to a back porch with no cabling access, hence the wireless solution. Everything works fine under Windows XP, but on Linux, not so much. Hardware info is as follows; there is no "Wireless LAN" entry, but there is a USB entry:
99: udi = '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/usb_device_1737_71_noserial'
info.subsystem = 'usb_device'
usb_device.vendor = 'Linksys'
usb_device.bus_number = 1 (0x1)
linux.subsystem = 'usb'
usb_device.product = 'Dual-Band Wireless-N USB Network Adapter'
info.product = 'Dual-Band Wireless-N USB Network Adapter'

I'm not a new user to ubuntu but I'm stuck with a driver issue on a wireless adapter upgrade for ubuntu 10.04 lucid lynx. I'm running an acer aspire am1201-e1622a with amd athlon x2 64 bit processor, however i'm only running the 32 bit version of lucid lynx. The following are a few outputs of some commands that might assist in finding the proper driver. Before though i will tell you what i have done.
I have installed a few different drivers from windows wireless driver installer such as the xp and vista 32 and 64 bit versions with no success in the computer actually recognizing that i have a wireless adapter installed. The windows wireless driver installer said that hardware was present but i was unable to scan for networks or even see that i had a choice to do that. This meaning that it didn't show i had wireless capabilities in my network manager. i tested this with gnome network manager which is the default manager for 10.04 and also with wicd with no success.
Following these tests i attempted to install a driver from source following the instructions on another forum. This allowed me to manually turn on the wireless adapter but i was still unable to find any networks. This meaning that wicd was able to see that i had a wireless adapter installed but it for some reason was unable to see any wireless networks around. I'm 100% sure my router is in range and that it is configured correctly. I have 5 other computers connect to this router along with some of them being ubuntu.

I don't why this is but we have WiFi working on our computer. The only problem is that when I search for LinkSys folder or Cisco folder nothing shows up. Is there something I need to do for that? I have tried to search for it in the folders themselves by doing a search but nothing comes up.

Ok so I tried to follow the directions here: [URL] However, I couldn't find 2010_0915_RT3572_Linux_STA_v2.4.0.2.tar.bz2. Instead, the closest I could find was 2011_0407_RT3070_RT3370_RT5370_RT5372_Linux_STA_V2 .5.0.2_DPO.bz2, so I tried it. I edited config.mk and rtusb_dev_id.c as chili555 advised. I tried to edit linux_rt.h, however, the only file I saw was rt_linux.h. I edited it according to chili555's post, message #7. I went back to the root directory of the extracted .bz2 file and did

So I'm trying to transform them and show them something new.

Tried startup with device connected, no success.
Read some threads which generally correspond to version 2 of the device.
It probably uses Ralink chipset(cmiiw). I neither have Rt73 nor prism2_usb installed, confirmed by lsmod.

I have a Dell Vostro 1220, with Intel 4 Series Express Chipset Family graphics card. I work on OpenSuse 11.3 (64bit), on the latest kde.I work on an extended 1680x1050 screen on the left of my laptop screen (1280x800). I set this with Kxrandr and it worked great,a while... Now, it shows a black band on the right side of my laptop screen. I can live with that. But the mouse does not recalculate for this difference, so that I need to click 1 inch to the right of where I want to click.

Does anyone know of an alsa based software multi-band (10 or more) graphic audio frequency equalizer that works with Suse 11.x? To be clear, I don't mean an equalizer within an audio or video player. One that can be used with any sound application, that works between the output of the player and the output plugs on a motherboard or sound card.

Sorry for repeating the same old complaint but there doesn't seem to be a common fix: Wireless does not work on my Presario R3000 although SUSE 11.x lists the hardware in the Hardware Information list and the hardware is turned on. Network Manager doesn't display any wireless networks in SUSE while Win 7 can see 4 of them on the same machine. Ubuntu has no problem either

I've just upgraded from openSUSE 11.2 to 11.3. In 11.2 everything worked fine: I've booted my laptop, logged in and turn my wireless card on using the hardware wireless button, the KDE Wallet opened up, I inserted the password and voil, wireless connection was on.But after upgrading from 11.3, it doesn't work like that anymore. I need to have the hardware wireless button pressed to on during boot, otherwise Network Manager will not work. And yes, I do check the "Enabled wireless" option, but it doesn't work. When I tried to check it out, I found out that the wireless "Scan" button that scans and displays the available wireless connections shows nothing.So, if I forget to put the wireless on for boot, I must restart and put it on. I've tried log off and log on, and restarting some network services, but neither worked.I have an Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 2200BG, as showed below, and I'm posting this message using it.

Suse on an (old even) laptop is even more fun that it is on a desktop. BUT, I still cant get my wireless to work! I have the Encore ENUWI-N3 USB adaptor. Suse sucessfully detects my USB device, recognize its a Wireless lan network adapter, installs it as such (gives it its driver) and adds my wireless menu under network manager. (it gives it the rt2x00) I can enable / disable the USB device from there (its light corroborates that.
So all in all, suse installs my wireless. But I CANNOT find any AP when I scan. Under the "scan" tool (under connec to wireless > A wireless network ect ect) I find no APs. Adding the SSID of the AP manually is of no help either. And the command sudo /usr/sbin/iwlist scan merely gives - "wlan1 Scan completed" and nothing else. Check ifconfig - not a frame sent/received.

I'm a regular OpenSuse user, but recently I had to download Windows7 on my computer for work. Everything was fine for a while, but now when I switch to windows, the wireless doesn't work sometimes (sometimes it works just fine). When this happens wireless is broken on the Linux side as well. The only way I know to fix it is to hard wire the laptop when booted into windows, and then everything is back to normal. It's really starting to tick me off and I have no idea what may be causing it. I didn't even know the two partitions can effect each other.

Recently I have installed Fedora 14 on my other laptop. It's a dual boot with Windows 7. Everything worked perfectly fine, networking included, until my friend didn't accidently turned off the wireless by pressing a wireless button on the laptop. Since then the wireless on Fedora doesn't work. It does on Windows thought. I've tried restarting the laptop few times, but the wireless still doesn't want to work again.

I have two identical Samsung monitors. One is connected. to my motherboard VGA port (and appears as a Radeon HD 4200).The other is connected to a VGA port on a separate PCI Radeon 9200 PRO board. When I first installed Suse 11.3, I had to go through the nomodeset boot command (otherwise my system froze up on boot) and I only get video on the screen connected to the motherboard. The other monitor light. flashes which means it's not seeing a video signal. And, I do not have an xorg.conf file in /etc/X11.
So I did the following:
I did an Xorg -config which created an xorg.conf.new file which looked sensible in that it showed both Radeons, and appeared to set up a dual-head system. The only change I made was to change the driver for both controllers from radeon to radeonhd. Then, I copied xorg.conf.new to /etc/X11/xorg.conf and rebooted. And, nothing is changed. I still need to do nomodeset on boot and I still only get video on the screen connected to the motherboard. I'd attach the xorg.conf and Xorg.0.log files, but it says I can't add attachments to this post. I don't see any major errors in the Xorg.0.log file, but a lot of it is greek to me.
