OpenSUSE Hardware :: HP OfficeJet 6110 Scanner Not Working?
Dec 18, 2009
I have a HP Office-Jet 6110 All-In-One for about 5 years now and I havve been using it on Suse and openSuse without a problem all these years. This morning I wanted to scan something and suddenly realised that the scanner is not working. I can print but not scan. i tried to set up the scanner using YaST like I have done for the past 5 years but it#s not working. Hpaio shows that no scanner is available for this driver. I can#t install the scanner. What has changed in 11.2 that devices that worked before are not working anymore?

Recently got a Canon Canoscan 8800F after looking it up on the SANE site and said it was completely supported for Linux.
I have downloaded the pixma drivers and have compiled the command line program, but it can't find the scanner.
lsusb returns a Canon scanner Bus 001 Device 005: ID 04a9:1901 Canon, Inc.
and sane-find-scanner returns:found USB scanner (vendor=0x04a9 [Canon], product=0x1901 [CanoScan]) at libusb:001:005
but scanimage -L (under my user login or sudo) returns only the webcam. No other scanner found.
My system is running Linux Mint 7, ia64 kernel 2.6.28-11-generic

Running openSUSE 11.2 with HP All-in-one 3055 printer/fax/scanner attached through network.
Using hplip package.
Printer works just fine. Scanner did work for quite some time, however it stopped working after some update about a month ago (using only opensuse update repo).
When doing hp-scan I get following error:
Checking all the logs I can think of I can't figure this one out. Tried newer hplip package fom HP site same issue (I have two systems, on one I've tried the new driver, on one only using opensuse update repo ...both same issue)

I just received a Canon Pixma MX320 as a gift.
I am currently running the Ubuntu 10.04 OS
I was able to get the printer up and running by downloading the printer driver for debian linux (3.1) from the Canon site without any problems.
Unfortunately I am not having the same luck with the scanner.
I tried downloading ScanGear MP for Linux (deb) (1.3) from the same Canon site but have not yet been able to get the XSane Image Scanner to recognize this scanner driver for my Canon.

I installed the 64-bit version of OpenSUSE 11.4 last week and tried to print from it today. I couldn't get anything to come out. I've tried both USB and network printing, and nothing ever works. Any attempt to print anything results in the HPLIP Status Service app telling me the job is "completed" immediately, with nothing printed, but the CUPS web interface reports "/usr/lib/cups/filter/hpcups failed".
It's connected to the network router and hp-setup discovers it when I use manual discovery and give it the IP address, but it still won't print even a test page, whether as root or as a user. I've also used the CUPS web interface to add my user to the list of users allowed to print, and added my user to the lp group. But I still get the same error and nothing ever prints.

after an update to 11.2 (from 11.1), 64 bit, I don't get the printer to work. I reinstalled the driver and checked in cups: it says that the printer is available and waiting for a job. When I send something to the printer, nothing happens. The priont job will be stopped immediately. The printer is properly connected: xsane finds the scanner, that is part of the printer, without a problem. The printer is also ok: I can copy documents, it just works fine.

Thought I'd give back to the community, at least something. HP OfficeJet 6500 success! Print/Scan/Fax Opensuse 11.1 Go here and download to your desktop. HP Linux Imaging and Printing Then simply do the konsole thing to run the installer, then easy to follow the prompts that appear. I'm hopeless and even I can do it, just look at all my previous noob questions. You then have printer, scanner that work perfect. (Gnome 11.1)The printers are quite cheap, $128AUD Dick Smith etc

Just acquired a slide/negative scanner (Traveller TV6500) which is reputed only to work under Winderz. Anyone know of a way to get it to run under Fedora 12?
I'm running
Linux Fedora-Blue 2.6.32.21-168.fc12.i686 #1 SMP Wed Sep 15 16:25:04 UTC 2010 i686 athlon i386 GNU/Linux
lsusb shows
Bus 001 Device 019: ID 05a9:1550 OmniVision Technologies, Inc. VEHO Filmscanner
I've tried running it in a VirtualBox Windows XP, but it doesn't appear to work - goes off & churns but doesn't appear to get a picture back.

I can't get the scanner to work. I get this:
[pedroski@fangshan ~]$ scanimage -L
device `v4l:/dev/video0' is a Noname USB2.0 1.3M UVC WebCam virtual device
device `hpaio:/usb/Deskjet_1050_J410_series?serial=CN0CN3H3CZ05HW' is a Hewlett-Packard Deskjet_1050_J410_series all-in-one
and this
[pedroski@fangshan ~]$ scanimage -d hpaio:/usb/Deskjet_1050_J410_series?serial=CN0CN3H3CZ05HW -T
scanimage: open of device hpaio:/usb/Deskjet_1050_J410_series?serial=CN0CN3H3CZ05HW failed: Device busy.
Fedora came with 'Simple Scan' That also returns 'device busy'. Can this scanner work under Fedora? I have tried turning it off, then on. I have rebooted. I have hpijs and hplip installed also hplip-gui. I have put myself in the group lp.

I've been trying to get my Epson NX420 printer to scan for about three months now, and I finally got it working. Here's how:
1. Go to [URL] and search for your printer. Select distribution and version and answer a couple of other questions.
2. Download pipslite_1.5.0-2_i386.deb, (or the 64-bit version), and all the iscan*.deb files (again, appropriate to your system).
3. [CRITICAL] Go to [URL] and download this 8.04 package which worked just fine for me on 10.10.
4. Use the Software Center or GDebi or sudo dpkg -i the .debs in this order:
1) libtdl3, which is a dependency for Step 2.
2) pipslite
3) iscan-data
4) iscan-network
5) iscan
(If you use a USB connection, you don't need the iscan-network file.) This got my NX420 scanner up and running just fine. Installing libtdl3 was the key; in fact, I used the Debian Lenny package.

I have an Epson CX4300 on Ubuntu 10.10 and I can't get it to scan. I loaded the driver for CX4200 since CX4300 isn't listed in [URL]
sane-find-scanner finds the scanner but scanimage doesn't:
ilan@ilan-main:~$ sane-find-scanner -q
found USB scanner (vendor=0x04b8, product=0x083f) at libusb:003:002
ilan@ilan-main:~$ scanimage -L
No scanners were identified. If you were expecting something different, check that the scanner is plugged in, turned on and detected by the sane-find-scanner tool (if appropriate). Please read the documentation which came with this software (README, FAQ, manpages).
XSane also reports No Devices available and number 4 in their possible reasons is The backend is not loaded by SANE (man sane-dll). I get: ilan@ilan-main:~$ man sane-dll No manual entry for sane-dll
I do get a man for sane-epson so that hints that the epson driver exists. The fact that sane-dll doesn't seem to exist is probably the problem. I'm using libsane in the Synaptic Package Manager and that is supposed to supply the backends. Should it include sane-dll?

I just installed an all-in-one Brother MFC-8670DN in Ubuntu 9.04. The printing works great but I cannot get the scanner recognized. I tried brscan, brscan2 and brscan3 from the Linux section of the Brother website to no avail. Previously had a lower model Brother MFC working fine. I called Brother and they said that "I need to call Linux for help with the scanner." Anyone who can help with the Brother MFC-8670DN? It would be very much appreciated. This printer may go back to the store if I cannot get the scanner working in Ubuntu 9.04.

I have been given an Epson CX5000 3-in-1 that I only want to use the scanner part of (I have a laser and hate buying ink). The scanner works, tested under windoze, but xsane and scanimage -L fail to find it. But, lsusb does:
$ /sbin/lsusb
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 04b8:082b Seiko Epson Corp. Stylus DX5050
I saw a post about it under ubuntu that you had to modify
/etc/udev/rules.d/45-libsane.rules
Which doesn't exist on my Slackware 13 install. I hope this Epson runs faster than my Canon FB630U, which takes almost a four minutes to scan a 5x6 photo and forget scanning an 8.5x11 page (go take a nap).

I'm on a laptop, and the printer/scanner is wifi enabled and broadcasts with its own IP address. I can print with no problem, but xsane and simple scan don't recognize the scanner. I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx.

With new installs of openSuse 11.4 I've hit a printer problem. I can run hp-setup (or hp-toolbox) for the wireless Officejet j6410 and it is recognised. The right driver is selected. Then when I choose add printer it all falls over with the error message: error: Printer queue setup failed. Could not connect to CUPS Server Is user added to "lp" group(s) error: Fax queue setup failed. Please restart CUPS and try again.
The user is added to the lp group. I have this problem with my 64 bit desktop and 32 bit laptop installs of 11.4, it all worked perfectly in 11.2. I've used the Cups web interface to set up the printer now and can print from both machines, but I would prefer to use the hp-toolbox, which has several convenient features. Where do I go from here?

How to get this scanner to work with Ubuntu 10.10
It's connected and printer is working through the scanner. But i can't get the system to recognise the scanner.
I'm all new to Ubuntu, and i thought it was easy and terminal is a totally new thing to me.
Is there a workaround to get this scanner to work through graphical interface install, or is terminal wisdom needed...

I got a Visioneer One Touch 9020 USB scanner at a local thrift store and I can't get it working. At the store they said it works. Not tested with Linux. It was only $3 so I figured I'd take the plunge -- proceeds go to local charities. Running sane-find-scanner outputs this:
# sane-find-scanner will now attempt to detect your scanner. If the
# result is different from what you expected, first make sure your
# scanner is powered up and properly connected to your computer.
# No SCSI scanners found. If you expected something different, make sure that
# you have loaded a kernel SCSI driver for your SCSI adapter.
[Code]...
says no sane devices found, as does the Xsane program when I try to start that. Should I take apart the scanner and see what chip it uses? On a side note, the same thrift store has a Mustek scanner that has only a USB connection, apparently drawing power from the USB bus. But I'm skeptical about this because all the scanners I've seen require 1.25 amps of current and USB provides only 0.5 amps. Has anyone any experience with this scanner and would it be worthwhile to purchase it and try to get it going? I have two scanners that work well with Linux but they are both the multifunction type that copy, scan and print. I'm hoping I can find a regular flatbed scanner. And I should also mention I have Python-imaging-sane installed for flatbed scanners.

We recently got an Epson Stylus TX550W Printer/Scanner unit, shared over Wi-Fi with both Windows/Ubuntu PC's, while I have the printing working flawlessly, I don't know where to start to get the scanner working. I've Googled, but haven't come up with much, checked the Ubuntu documentation, apparently Ubuntu (9.10 & earlier, nothing about 10.04) don't automatically detect networked printers, is there a way to get it to recognize without editing config files, which I hate doing? I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 64-bit.

I tried reinstalling the drivers, no luck.

I've installed XSane Image Scanner. When I first opened it, it searched for my scanner and didn't give any error messages, and it had my scanner model in the heading of the scan window. But when I hit the scan button, it gave me saying, "Failed to start scanner: error during device I/O.I closed everything, and opened XSane again. This time it said there was no scanner available. The scanner is plugged into the USB port and uses that for both power and data. It's a Canoscan Model N650U.

I am using Suse 11.1 on a 64-bit computer. Some time ago, I was helped on these forums to get a Brother MFC-640CW printer/scanner to work by downloading the relevant drivers from the Brother website. Although the printer works fine, when I attempt to scan something into the computer nothing happens. A pop up box appears on screen when the printer is used with an XP OS. Can anybody suggest a way to get the scanner working?

I have three computers with wireless and wired connections to a HP Officejet 6500A Plus all-in-one that I purchased a few months ago. Two of the three are running Ubuntu (versions 8.04 and 9.10). By Christmas, I'll be getting a new computer and upgrading to an Ubuntu v. 10.xx or 11.xx. In the first few weeks after I got the 6500, I had no trouble printing (although in 8 years using Linux, I've never been able to scan ...). For the last couple of weeks, however, I've been unable to print. I keep getting messages saying that the printer is not connected. I have re-installed the printer drivers and run hp-setup several times but to no avail. Its latest trick is to start spitting out paper with a line or more of ASCII symbols at a very rapid rate. The third computer is a Windoze 7 box that my son connects to wirelessly but he can no longer print as well.
