Ubuntu :: Canon FB 630P Scanner Driver / Can't Get System To Recognise The Scanner?

Dec 14, 2010

How to get this scanner to work with Ubuntu 10.10

It's connected and printer is working through the scanner. But i can't get the system to recognise the scanner.

I'm all new to Ubuntu, and i thought it was easy and terminal is a totally new thing to me.

Is there a workaround to get this scanner to work through graphical interface install, or is terminal wisdom needed...

Ubuntu :: Canon MX320 Scanner Not Able To Get The XSane Image Scanner To Recognize Scanner?

Jul 11, 2010

I just received a Canon Pixma MX320 as a gift.

I am currently running the Ubuntu 10.04 OS

I was able to get the printer up and running by downloading the printer driver for debian linux (3.1) from the Canon site without any problems.

Unfortunately I am not having the same luck with the scanner.

I tried downloading ScanGear MP for Linux (deb) (1.3) from the same Canon site but have not yet been able to get the XSane Image Scanner to recognize this scanner driver for my Canon.

Hardware :: Getting Canon 8800F Scanner Working / No Other Scanner Found?

Recently got a Canon Canoscan 8800F after looking it up on the SANE site and said it was completely supported for Linux.

I have downloaded the pixma drivers and have compiled the command line program, but it can't find the scanner.

lsusb returns a Canon scanner Bus 001 Device 005: ID 04a9:1901 Canon, Inc.

and sane-find-scanner returns:found USB scanner (vendor=0x04a9 [Canon], product=0x1901 [CanoScan]) at libusb:001:005

but scanimage -L (under my user login or sudo) returns only the webcam. No other scanner found.

My system is running Linux Mint 7, ia64 kernel 2.6.28-11-generic

Ubuntu Installation :: Wireless Install Of Canon MX860 All-in-one Scanner?

Oct 19, 2010

I've done a ton of searching and all I've found seems geared to having your printer/scanner connected via USB cable in order to get the scanner working. I have the printer working wirelessly but thus far no go on the scanner. I've downloaded and installed the scangearmp packages.

I've tried installing the sane package via git according to this blog but when I try to run configure I see this: mustek_usb2 backend requires pthread library - disabling and usb isn't listed among the installed backends. I don't even know whether I need usb because this is wireless, but after compiling I run scanimage -L and nothing comes up. I'm still a Linux newb, and have learned a ton in the past couple of days, but this one is stumping me.

OpenSUSE Install :: 11.3: Can't Get Canon Pixma MG 5150 Scanner To Work

Jan 7, 2011

I'm trying to get my Canon Pixma MG 5150 scanner/printer to work. While the 'printer' is doing well the 'scanner' appears to be stubborn. I use the scangearpm-MG5100series-1.60-1 driver provided by Canon which is said to be fine with Suse 11.2.

The trouble is, that though the scanner scans it does not deliver anything back. Here are the details:

When I run scangearmp as root in a terminal I get the following output:

(scangearmp:6902): GVFS-RemoteVolumeMonitor-WARNING **: cannot connect to the session bus: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.

Software :: Sane Parport Canon N640P Scanner / Getting The Dialog 'No Devices Available'?

Apr 20, 2010

1. Unless root chmod's /dev/parport0 to include o+rw, a user running xsane just gets the dialog 'No devices available'. Should the canon_pp driver be installed as su root, perhaps? CUPS uses the same port for printing without problems. Which library or executable needs to have permissions changed to change to run as root?

2. The N640P has a printer output port built in. As I have only one parallel port, I piggy-back my printer through the scanner. This does not work for xsane in Copy mode: nothing prints until I close xsane and then all I get printed is a stream of binary characters, not an image. I guess the canon_pp driver is holding the port open in such a way that CUPS sees the device as being busy. Any ideas on how to combat that? I am a C programmer and quite happy to help by hacking the code, if I have a start point. It irritates me to have to boot the print server into WinXP just so scanning and copying work without fuss.

Fedora :: Error - Found USB Scanner (vendor=0x04a9 [Canon], Product=0x2213 [CanoScan], Chip=GL841?) At Libusb:001:006

Aug 1, 2009

Since installing F11, my Canon LIDE 50 scanner refuses to work. xsane 0.996 produces an error message: Failed to start scanner: Error during device I/O.

sane-find-scanner says it is there: found USB scanner (vendor=0x04a9 [Canon], product=0x2213 [CanoScan], chip=GL841?) at libusb:001:006 But scanimage -L claims: No scanners were identified.except once when it admitted: device `genesys:libusb:001:006' is a Canon LiDE 35/40/50 flatbed scanner

I reluctantly tested the scanner on a Windoze machine and it works perfectly. And it worked perfectly under F10.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Canon MP250 Scanner And Printer Drivers / "Error During Device I/O"?

May 20, 2011

I am trying to get Canon MP250 printer and scanner working in OpenSUSE 11.3 and so far I've had limited success. Both components work up to a point, but aren't fully operational.First of all, I installed the drivers from Canon website for both parts of the multifunctional device. Here's the report on the versions (it's localised, but it shouldn't be hard to understand ).

The printer works for the most part. But it fails to set images to greyscale when I request the driver to. There are some guides about that for Ubuntu, but none for openSUSE that I could find. Also, what does the setting "Amount of Extension" in the printer options do?It would also be nice if I could set the printing quality as well. Right now it seems to print everything with the default quality setting, but personally I like using lower print quality since that saves ink and makes it a little faster.

The scanner, however, is hardly usable at all. If I try to use Canon's ScanGear MP to scan, I can hear that it operates the scanner, but the program itself freezes and after a while gives me the "Cannot communicate with scanner" error. On certain settings I can also hear that the scanner itself doesn't complete the scan (the indicator on it also reports an operation in progress, but it never gets completed). If I try to use Acquire images, the native KDE scanner application, I can get it to scan, but only on very specific settings: it must scan it in colour and the resolution must be equal to or over 300 dpi. If I try anything else, the resulting image file is completely blank or I get an "Error during device I/O". And, of course, it can't save PDF files.

Ubuntu :: Scanner Driver For Brother MFC-665CW?

During installation of Ubuntu 10.04, there was no driver found for my Brother MFC-665CW printer/scanner. Does anyone know if there is a driver available on Synaptic that will work for the scanner on a MFC-665CW, and if so how to get to it (i.e., what to search on to locate it)?

Hardware :: Can I Use Fujitsu Snapscan S300 Scanner With System

Jul 19, 2009

I am interested in buying a small portable scanner since I'll often use it on the go and the one I'm looking at is the Fujitsu Snapscan 300. There is a M version, the 300M that's said to work with Macs.
My situation is I have a Mac at home and want to be able to use it with that so may have to get the 300M but also on the go I use a laptop that uses Mandriva Linux.
My question: Will the 300, hopefully the Snapscan 300M work with Linux? I want to make sure it will recognize the scanner. Also, assuming it works what programs would I use to scan? I want to be able to scan into both jpgs and pdf's.

Fedora Hardware :: Scanner Driver Won't Install: "Unknown Symbol Proc_root"

Feb 5, 2010

I have a Plustek 9636T parallel port scanner. Has been faithfully working for me for years up through Fedora 8. It has a kernel driver that I build and install every time the kernel changes.

I finally bit the bullet and did a new install of Fedora 12 to get up to date. But now when I try to build my kernel driver and install it, I get this fatal error on the modprobe:

FATAL: Error inserting pt_drv (/lib/modules/ Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)

Examining dmesg shows: Unknown symbol proc_root. I can't find that message anywhere on a Google search.
