OpenSUSE Hardware :: 11.4 - OfficeJet 6500A Job Completed But No Prints
Mar 15, 2011
I installed the 64-bit version of OpenSUSE 11.4 last week and tried to print from it today. I couldn't get anything to come out. I've tried both USB and network printing, and nothing ever works. Any attempt to print anything results in the HPLIP Status Service app telling me the job is "completed" immediately, with nothing printed, but the CUPS web interface reports "/usr/lib/cups/filter/hpcups failed".
It's connected to the network router and hp-setup discovers it when I use manual discovery and give it the IP address, but it still won't print even a test page, whether as root or as a user. I've also used the CUPS web interface to add my user to the list of users allowed to print, and added my user to the lp group. But I still get the same error and nothing ever prints.

I have three computers with wireless and wired connections to a HP Officejet 6500A Plus all-in-one that I purchased a few months ago. Two of the three are running Ubuntu (versions 8.04 and 9.10). By Christmas, I'll be getting a new computer and upgrading to an Ubuntu v. 10.xx or 11.xx. In the first few weeks after I got the 6500, I had no trouble printing (although in 8 years using Linux, I've never been able to scan ...). For the last couple of weeks, however, I've been unable to print. I keep getting messages saying that the printer is not connected. I have re-installed the printer drivers and run hp-setup several times but to no avail. Its latest trick is to start spitting out paper with a line or more of ASCII symbols at a very rapid rate. The third computer is a Windoze 7 box that my son connects to wirelessly but he can no longer print as well.

I'm struggling on installing a KONICA-MINOLTA printer magicolor 4695MF printing properly with Linux Mint Debian Edition (up to date). The test page works fine...
KONICA-MINOLTA delivers 2 PPDs: one for standard printing and one for OpenOffice printing (available on the KONICA-MINOLTA support site).
Leaving a side the one for OpenOffice which is poor in using the capabilities of the printer, I concentrate only on the global one (M4695PX.ppd).
It's much more difficult for other applications, starting with EVINCE: some PDF files are printed properly (i.e. those generated in OpenOffice by the CUPS PDF printer), others come out as one only blank page, regardless to the original length of the document.
So documents received from 3rd party may be "printable" or not. And trust Murphy, the most critical aren't printed...

I have a HP Office-Jet 6110 All-In-One for about 5 years now and I havve been using it on Suse and openSuse without a problem all these years. This morning I wanted to scan something and suddenly realised that the scanner is not working. I can print but not scan. i tried to set up the scanner using YaST like I have done for the past 5 years but it#s not working. Hpaio shows that no scanner is available for this driver. I can#t install the scanner. What has changed in 11.2 that devices that worked before are not working anymore?

after an update to 11.2 (from 11.1), 64 bit, I don't get the printer to work. I reinstalled the driver and checked in cups: it says that the printer is available and waiting for a job. When I send something to the printer, nothing happens. The priont job will be stopped immediately. The printer is properly connected: xsane finds the scanner, that is part of the printer, without a problem. The printer is also ok: I can copy documents, it just works fine.

Thought I'd give back to the community, at least something. HP OfficeJet 6500 success! Print/Scan/Fax Opensuse 11.1 Go here and download to your desktop. HP Linux Imaging and Printing Then simply do the konsole thing to run the installer, then easy to follow the prompts that appear. I'm hopeless and even I can do it, just look at all my previous noob questions. You then have printer, scanner that work perfect. (Gnome 11.1)The printers are quite cheap, $128AUD Dick Smith etc

I configured my printer via YaST (Suse 11.3). YaST finds my printer and offers me the Gutenprint driver: Epson Stylus D120 with driver Epson Stylus D120 - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.2.4 I selected this driver and finished the configuration.
The problem now is, that if I print something, the printer only prints a totally black page. How can I solve this? Should I use another driver?
PS: With Suse 11.2 and Gutenprint driver it worked.

I have an HP Printer which prints black horizontal lines after each line or colors an entire blank line black, so a blank page will come out all black. Others who have access to the Printer are able to print well, without any problem.

I have openSUSE 11.2 and printer Brother HL-2040 connected to my openSUSE laptop. It was correctly recognized by manufacturer and model and was "automagically" installed by downloading the appropriate driver. Whenever I click "print" its name correctly appears on the page on which you choose where to send the print jobs to. And when I click "print" it prints... empty pages. When I chose to print the test page, 10 empty pages came out.
This printer worked just fine under Ubuntu 9.04 and winXP. I read the topic here about HL-2040 in openSUSE 11.2 using the driver of 2060 but upon checking both the printer config page and CUPS web admin page it was confirmed that the driver is actually the correct required one, HL-2060 Foomatic/Postscript.

I made a BIG mistake and tried to print a PDF document from Evince 2.28.2. Evince sends a garbage filled print job to the queue that results in nothing but garbage being printed. I noted the problem an tried to kill the print job but could not because it does not show up in the print queue. It appears that the printer sent an error back to the print system and the print system now continues to print the job forever - that is, anytime openSUSE is running, even after reboots.
Note that printing the test page works and that the printer also works fine with gedit and OpenOffice.
If I go to Control Center -> Printing then right click on the icon for the printer and click View Print Queue, the print queue is empty.
In YaST Control Center -> Printer -> Policies the "Specify error policy" is set to "abort and delete the job and proceed with the next job." The "Apply this error policy to all local printer configurations" checkbox was checked when this policy was set. If this is what should have ultimately killed the job it did not work.
how to stop the print system from trying to print this garbaged print job. It has been trying to print the same garbaged print job for the last five days!

I have two different ways to print to my HPOfficejet Pro 8500. They look like two different printers to the software.
When I attempt to print a PDF file one of these prints a mirror image; the other cuts approximately 1/2 inch from the top of the page.
OpenOffice.org files appear to print without problems.
I have openSUSE 11.2 and HPLIP 3.9.8

With new installs of openSuse 11.4 I've hit a printer problem. I can run hp-setup (or hp-toolbox) for the wireless Officejet j6410 and it is recognised. The right driver is selected. Then when I choose add printer it all falls over with the error message: error: Printer queue setup failed. Could not connect to CUPS Server Is user added to "lp" group(s) error: Fax queue setup failed. Please restart CUPS and try again.
The user is added to the lp group. I have this problem with my 64 bit desktop and 32 bit laptop installs of 11.4, it all worked perfectly in 11.2. I've used the Cups web interface to set up the printer now and can print from both machines, but I would prefer to use the hp-toolbox, which has several convenient features. Where do I go from here?

I just installed an HP Officejet 6200 on a Slackware 12.1 machine. It uses a USB interface. If I am on the machine, I can print to it with no problem. When I am on my Debian or Centos machines, I cannot. I have midified the cupsd.conf file to allow everyone to connect to it but so far have not had any success. Port 631 is open on all machines. I have explicitly added a hosts allow 192.168.0.0/24 line in several portions of the conf file with no luck. If I use the cups interface on any of the machines using localhost:631 as the address, I can not only see the printer I can print to it, but I noticed, I am actually attached to the Slackware machine where the printer is located. Can someone suggest a debugging method to help?

Also, in the properties of the printer I cannot see the level of the ink. It says this info is not provided by the printer.

I have had good success with the HP OfficeJet 6310 printing and Karmic. However, recently when printing, the print job stops after a certain amount of pages ( when printing a multiple page document ). The first page almost always prints immediately. This issue occurs with PDFs, OO Writer documents and OO Spreadsheet documents. The printer status window on the printer shows "printing" and the print manager in Gnome shows printing. Sometimes the printing completes after several minutes. Other times I end up killing the job and powering down the printer.

I have a HP Officejct Pro 8000 Printer hooked to UBUNTU 9.10 on a system 76 box. The printer is not loading paper properly. I see references to this issue on various websites and I saw at least one reference to new drivers but alas they were all for windows. I checked the repository and I have the latest and greatest HPLIP. Does this mean I have all of the latest drivers?

Is there a command that can be run to verify that a users cron job has run successfully?
Platform is Ubuntu 8.04 LTS.
I have scripts in /home/useraccount/bin/
running
crontab -l
While logged in as user results in:
# m h dom mon dow command
@hourly /home/useraccount/bin/script_1
@hourly /home/locateruser/bin/script_2
I realize scripts could send email or write to a log with a timestamp, but wondering if there is just a way to verify it ran from the command line.
I ran
ps -ef|grep cron
... and it shows
root 4358 1 0 Mar12 ? 00:00:00 /usr/sbin/cron
Not sure if this indicates it is running the jobs though....

From console, I can check there is java, but no javac. For doing java programming, I don't know if the OpenJDK was complete installed or not, should I continue to use it or remove it to install Oracle JDK?

Is there a way to get a summary of how much bandwidth a given process used on Linux after the process completes? I do not want a monitor, I want something I can look at after the task has completed..
Ideally something like the "time" command or a profiler, but for network usage.
