I have Suse 11.3 KDE and every time I opened an mp3 file, Amarok opened and closed immediately reporting a new bug everytime. So I followed this thread Amarok Not Launching I have uninstalled Amarok through Install/ Remove software. But I am not able to find this folder to delete, as mentioned in above post: Delete the directory ~/.kde/share/apps/amarok

After upgrading to KDE 4.6 (Factory repos) Amarok crashes every time I try to play a song. Changing between Gstreamer and Xine doesn't make any difference.

When I attach my MP3 player (a Sony S series Walkman), Amarok crashes. It is a problem with libmtp, but I don't know how to resolve it. The player can connect as mass storage or mtp (note that connection mode is not selectable on the device), but Amarok automatically claims it as mtp and promptly crashes, if I connect the player without Amarok running and mount it as mass storage then start Amarok, it still claims it as MTP, crashes and blocks the device so it is no longer accessible as anything. I would just uninstall libmtp as I have no use for it, but Amarok requires it. The options as I see them: 1) get a version of libmtp that doesn't screw up with this device 2) stop Amarok claiming mtp devices (no settings for this - anything in config file?) 3) stop linux recognising this as an mtp capable device so Amarok doesn't try to claim it.

View 1 Replies View RelatedOn a fresh install of the Meerkat release candidate, I've installed the latest VirtualBox (3.2.8-64453, not open source version). When I run it, I get a user-agreement notice box as expected.
But, (1) sometimes immediately thereafter, or if not, then (2) as soon as I move the mouse pointer or (3) after I use the PageDown key to get to the bottom of the agreement text and use a key combination for "I agree," my Ubuntu user session crashes and I have to log in again.
The only other weird symptom I'm having is that I cannot set visual effects to anything but "None" (if I attempt to, I get an alert "The Composite extension is not available").
Perhaps there's a video-related problem underlying both issues, i.e., the X server is failing in both cases?
When I try to enable any options in the Debian software, Software Sources immediately crashes. I'd like to enable official supported software downloadable from the internet.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Fujitsu Amilo Pi 3525 notebook with 4 GB RAM and I am trying out Fedora 15 64-bit. When I boot from the CD, it reboots at the point where plymouth should exit and X should start. There are no obvious error messages from the console; it just reboots. This notebook has been generally reliable and runs 64-bit Ubuntu without any problems. I am planning to test the CD in another host (although the media check did not fail) and at least try the 32-bit version (even though I know it can't address of the RAM). As experiences with Linux go, it feels a little early to hit a brick wall so early in the process.
Two days ago I finally upgraded from Fedora14 (x64) to Fedora15 (x64). [A bit of backstory: I first tried the preupgrade method, I always try it but for some reason it always fails (gives me errors about dependencies that it cannot solve), so as usual I downloaded the full DVD and upgraded using it. It usually works but, as usual, the first time I boot I have to boot in runlevel 3 because after the update my Nvidia drivers aren't up to date with the kernel, so using runlevel 3 I was able to yum update both Kernel and Kmod-nvidia packages; after that I could finally reboot and enjoy the new Gnome3 interface]
When I was finally able to boot in graphical mode (see above), everything worked fine: I had my Gnome3 desktop in front of me, programs worked, all my settings from Fedora14 were still there, all installed programs were still working etc etc. Of course, PackageKit listed a bunch of updates that I needed to do (more than 700 actually), so obviously I gave it the thumbs up to update; unfortunately, some dependencies could not be resolved, to be precise they are dependencies for the packages Mono, RPM and VLC (more details later).......
I'm Dual-booting XP with Ubuntu Karmic Koala, heres my other specs:
CPU: Intel Pentium D 3.0Ghz family(15) model(4) stepping(4)
GFX: Geforce 7800 GT (had problems with GFX when I first installed Ubuntu, I had to update my drivers)
2 GB RAM
This is a nearly fresh install of Karmic Koala, I've only installed whatever updates I needed, graphics card drivers, KPlayer, and Google Chrome. Because I prefer Chrome over Firefox I immediately went to download Chrome, and Firefox would get to the Chrome page and then crash. I then got the Chrome install file from another computer and installed it. Chrome will not even launch, so I go to search the problem in Firefox and it crashes on ANY link I click in Google Search. I also tried to directly type websites into the URL box: it loads the pages title (Ex. "Yahoo! Mail"), and crashes before displaying the page at all.
This is a very odd problem to me as I used the same disc to install dual-boot with Win7 and Ubuntu on my laptop which works perfectly, and now this happens to my desktop.
When I attempt to install the OS on my PC, the install software crashes immediately after I select US-English on the first screen. I'm copying the entire error report below. My system is configured as follows: Gigabyte P35-DS3R motherboard with 4G RAM. (FYI, I'm using the 32-bit LiveCD just because I may need a 32-bit OS for some purposes. I know this means I may not be able to use all of my RAM.) There are 3 500G hard drives connected to the computer. /dev/sda and /dev/sdb are RAID-1 mirrors via the on-motherboard ICH9R RAID chip. The logical partitions show up as /dev/dm-1, /dev/dm-2, /dev/dm-3, /dev/dm-4, and /dev/dm-5. When I type `fdisk -l`, I can see sda, sdb, and dm-* all separately. (I can provide the full output of `fdisk` if anybody wants to see it.)
/dev/sdc is a standalone drive without RAID.
I want to install Fedora on /dev/dm-2 with swap on /dev/dm-5. Currently, /dev/dm-1 and /dev/sdc2 each contain a separate installation of WinXP. I suspect the problem is with detecting RAID, thus I have deleted most of the error report that doesn't seem to concern storage detection.

I use to use amarok a lot back in the day and loved it. Saw that I could install it on ubuntu (which was a great suprise, since I though amarok was a KDE application).
Anyways, EVERY time I load amarok, I see it pop up for about 1 or 2 seconds and then my xserver (is that what it is called? the GUI portion of linux) crashes and restarts. EVERY SINGLE TIME. Open amarok, xserver crashes and restarts.
When I try to start amarok, I get a splash screen, and then it crashes with a segmentation fault. I have tried removing the amarok rpm's, and reinstalling it, but that didn't work out. I don't get enough information from the backtrace, but I also can't figure out which packages I need to get more debugging information. I have been subscribed to development repositories, so I guess I have some unstable packages on my system, but don't know which ones. I'm on Ubuntu 10.04, Amarok version 2.3.0, Using KDE 4.4.2 Whenever I start Amarok and try to play any song, amarok crashes, smetimes a few seconds of the music can be heard even if the Amarok window is no longer there. I've recently been using amarok and liked it a lot. I unchecked the show system tray in configuration, restarted amarok and then checked it again. Now amarok crashes whenever I go into configuration or browse through local files. I have tried reinstalling and deleting the directory ~/.kde/share/apps but no use.

For the last few releases, I've remained with Amarok 1.4, but now that I've deemed Amarok 2 stable enough, I've upgrade, however, the lyrics to my songs (which I put in a lot of effort in downloading), are not reflecting. Is there anyway to export lyrics from Amarok 1.4 and import them in Amarok 2?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to run VNC server on a standard OpenSUSE 11.2 Gnome Desktop installation.I have done this succesfully with SLES for sometime, however, my experience with OpenSUSE 11.2 is that it doesn't work out of the box!!
I am using XP Pro VNC viewer Free Edition 4.1.2 to connect.
I have removed "localhost" from the # special IPv6 addresses in hosts. This fixes the black screen issue for me. All appears well until I disconnect and retry the connection after 5 minutes or so. Then VNC client makes the connection and then immediately disconnects. It's a no go from then on. If I reboot OpenSUSE 11.2 it works again but then reconnect fails again after the same period of time.
I am trying NX now as an alternative. However, I would much prefer to use VNC.
First of all, this isn't really a problem for me, but I'm just curious. In the past when I started a data CD project, I remember that k3b used to start me with a "blank CD" of 700MB and then expand to a "blank DVD" of 4.4GB when the amount of data exceeded the capacity of a CD. Normally I just make an ISO image for the CD and burn on another machine (for a reason not relevant here).
Today, it started me off with a "blank DVD" right away. It's not a problem because the ISO format isn't different and the data is under 700MB anyway. How come? Ah wait, I think I know what it is, there's a DVD+RW in the drive at the moment so k3b got too smart and assumed that I wanted to write to it, even though I selected Create image only.

When I click on the action button included in the bottom panel, I expect to open a windows asking me if I want to shut down, restart, or log off. But unfortunately, when I click on it, I am not offered any option and I get immediately logged off. I removed the button from the panel and installed it again, but it still dysfunctions.

When I select it from the grub menu, everything acts normally until the login screen, which freezes immediately (i.e. before I can select my user account or type in my password).I installed from the full openSUSE DVD and chose the GNOME desktop. Before installing, I took openSUSE for a test drive with the GNOME LiveCD and everything seemed to work fine.

But there is one anoying problem - when i want to listen to song it opens VLC, but when i open another song it opens another new VLC window. And this problemug or whatever didnt apear in Windows version VLC player.
