I have just installed openSuse 11.4 on my Acer Aspire 5738Z. When I click on the action button included in the bottom panel, I expect to open a windows asking me if I want to shut down, restart, or log off. But unfortunately, when I click on it, I am not offered any option and I get immediately logged off. I removed the button from the panel and installed it again, but it still dysfunctions.

View 3 Replies View RelatedAfter doing the upgrade per this thread my gnome panel gets bugged when the workspace switcher applet is attached to it. Also the Cairo Dock bugs out with the workspace switcher applet attached to it. I can change desktops with key commands fine. It would just be nice if this could be fixed. I am sticking with gnome 2.32 because of my affinity with Evolution which performs better in 2.32.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm working with Opensuse 11.2 and KDE 4.3.5. I tried to restrict the run command (with Alt-F2) in the kdeglobals file:
~/.kde4/share/config/kdeglobals
[KDE Action Restrictions]
run_command=false
But there is no effect. With Opensuse 10.3 and KDE 3.5 it works fine.
Suse 11.2 and kde, I'm trying to set up a screensaver. All the facilities seem to be there when I go System>Desktop and set the required details, but then I find the screensaver is non-operative, the screen just going blank after the preset time delay.
The set-up system does do the demo of the screensaver OK, so the software for it must be there and at least partly accessible. But it doesn't seem to get through to the system.
I would like to disable the action that says "Download photos with digiKam" in KDE4 when inserting a storage-device such as a USB Stick. I have played around with the Device Action settings and the rule Download photos with digiKam but with no success.I have tried to set..

I am trying to run VNC server on a standard OpenSUSE 11.2 Gnome Desktop installation.I have done this succesfully with SLES for sometime, however, my experience with OpenSUSE 11.2 is that it doesn't work out of the box!!
I am using XP Pro VNC viewer Free Edition 4.1.2 to connect.
I have removed "localhost" from the # special IPv6 addresses in hosts. This fixes the black screen issue for me. All appears well until I disconnect and retry the connection after 5 minutes or so. Then VNC client makes the connection and then immediately disconnects. It's a no go from then on. If I reboot OpenSUSE 11.2 it works again but then reconnect fails again after the same period of time.
I am trying NX now as an alternative. However, I would much prefer to use VNC.
First of all, this isn't really a problem for me, but I'm just curious. In the past when I started a data CD project, I remember that k3b used to start me with a "blank CD" of 700MB and then expand to a "blank DVD" of 4.4GB when the amount of data exceeded the capacity of a CD. Normally I just make an ISO image for the CD and burn on another machine (for a reason not relevant here).
Today, it started me off with a "blank DVD" right away. It's not a problem because the ISO format isn't different and the data is under 700MB anyway. How come? Ah wait, I think I know what it is, there's a DVD+RW in the drive at the moment so k3b got too smart and assumed that I wanted to write to it, even though I selected Create image only.
I have Suse 11.3 KDE and every time I opened an mp3 file, Amarok opened and closed immediately reporting a new bug everytime. So I followed this thread Amarok Not Launching I have uninstalled Amarok through Install/ Remove software. But I am not able to find this folder to delete, as mentioned in above post: Delete the directory ~/.kde/share/apps/amarok

When I select it from the grub menu, everything acts normally until the login screen, which freezes immediately (i.e. before I can select my user account or type in my password).I installed from the full openSUSE DVD and chose the GNOME desktop. Before installing, I took openSUSE for a test drive with the GNOME LiveCD and everything seemed to work fine.
View 4 Replies View RelatedLast night I upgraded from 10.04 to 10.10 and now my system is bugged. If I accidentally enter the wrong credentials at login, the computer freezes - consistently. This happens at login on startup and when unlocking the screen after it goes to sleep. Additionally, my fingerprint reader which is built in and worked perfectly before the upgrade is causing the computer to freeze after a scan to login or unlock the computer. I haven't noticed any advantages to this newer "lighter" version of ubuntu so I'm not at all opposed to a complete downgrade back to 10.04.Unless someone has a straight solution to this problem - which I doubt, just let me know how I can downgrade my kernel back to a stable version that actually functions to basic standards..
P.S. I know that the upgrade deleted/turned off some "uneeded" or absolete repositories, so I went thru and reinstalled all those involved with the fingerprint scanner, and still the same results, even after a restart so..
Is there a way to set the default when clicking on a folder to open in new window? The default action appears to open in the same window. I've gone though every Dolphin option I can find, and there does not appear to be any setting that affect this. Konqueror DOES have a setting, but it seems to be ignored. I am running Suse 11.3, KDE 4.4.

I'm running SuSe 11.2 32 bit. I noticed today that what ever program, window, or what have you I open there is no close "X" button or resize button in the top right corner.

Out of the blue, I can't switch languages, neither by keyboard shortcuts, nor from the panel icon. It happens in random time, and it must be some 10.10 bug, for it never happened on 10.04.
View 2 Replies View RelatedThe gnome-settings daemon was updated today on my Fedora 11 machine and it's now performing all kinds of interesting activities. It's using my CPU a ton. And it's generating lots of network traffic. This appears to be a massive bug of some sort. Anyone know any more details? I haven't found anything yet.

I have recently installed Opensuse 11.4 on my desktop. And also upgraded my gnome-2 to gnome-3. Its works nice and I am enjoying it. Only the biggest problem I am facing is, if I lock the screen and leave my desk for couple of hours then user gets logged out automatically. Which is resulting all the documents and applications gets closed. I am unable to work in my desktop now.

We have a machine that is used by a number of users with a low level of tech savvy. The machine gets logged in as a generic user which works for most purposes, but due to a management requirement, we need Firefox to be run under an account set up for the individual user. I've gotten that bit to work fine, but what I can't figure out is a friendly (GUI) way to allow users to change their own password while the machine is logged in as the generic user. I would like to use gnome-passwd, but I've been unable to figure out how to get it to run for a user other than the logged-in generic user.

After installation of 11.3 i update the OS from online. i have a cable net with IP address / subnet mask / Gateway / DNS. All are working fine but all of a sudden there was a power cut in our locality and my cable net was delinked.
When the elecricity came again i tried to connect the internet for online updation, but all in vain. No page is openup though the terminal told me that "You are already logged in with process id 1425." When i typed the command to kill the process it said that there is no such process running.
Just installed OpenSUSE 11.2 and I have to say it feels great.Only gripe I currently have is the NetworkManager that is starting up very slowly. When I have logged into KDE KNetworkManager applet says that NetworkManager is not running and hence I have no network connection. This is fixed if I start NetworkManager (as root) or just wait a couple of minutes. I have one ethernet interface only, no wireless
