I was unable to play windows media player content from WEB using Firefox. Firefox is asking to install missing plug-ins. But when I click on "install missing plug-in" button, its showing "No plug-ins found". In windows its played by windows Media player plug-in.

As I want mplayer to play it and not the default player, I intend to make the first the default one. In Firefox (2.0.0.4) I can do Edit>Preferences>Content>File Types>Manage and change the actions associated with each file type. However, if the type is, say, PDF, I can can only change the action if a PDF file has anytime been downloaded. So, the same goes for a PLS file.

The Download window not having open itsef, the PLS type does not appear in the window Edit>...>File Types>Manage leads to. And so, I cannot change the action. The action would be 'Open them with this application': mplayer.
I use slack 13.1 64 bits on my intel i7 machine. That is I can't find a flash-player plugin that works on all browsers. The firefox crashes on open. The release of adobe 64 bits plugin simply doesn't work on any browser. I use slack 13.1 64 plus kde. Anyone knows some that works?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI installed the mount/unmount scripts off this site [URL] so i mounted an iso image, something went wrong and ubuntu could not mount my DVD drive to view my cd/dvd after i had to fix it with the unmount script but now every time i turn on my pc the folder /media/cdrom0 opens which is my dvd/cd drive, and still opens even with no disc init as you see in this ss do you see the bar says /media/cdrom0? this time in the ss it has a cd in the drive but other times opens regardless if there is one or not [URL]

Iam using opensuse 11.1. I want to know which is the best player that can be used in suse, which should support all codecs. I have tried totem player, xine, kaffeine, Noautun etc. But none of them is good. I have tried to install vlc player, but it shows a lot of dependencies too..it was not successful.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI was trying to view a dvd on ubuntu (which works on windows) so I downloaded a few progams from the synapatic manager and software center - nothing made the dvd work but now when I go to "places" and "home folder" movie player opens and has a error message window that is at least 10 deep that says "could not open location; you might not have permission to open file." I can't get to home folder at all!Did I totally ruin Ubuntu? Is this fixable? I rebooted and that didn't help

But when i write "sudo nautilus" it open the nautilus with new config settings. This means there is a problem on my system ? (when i open the firefox with "gksudo", it is using as new user (root user's) config files but nautilus is opening with the root user's files also with "sudo").

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a win7 laptop and installed a dual-boot ubuntu 10.10. I'm using firefox & thunderbird, shared between windows and ubuntu (default profiles are on a fat32 disk that is shared between the two OSs). I can mount the fat32 disk as usual, but I can't get firefox OR thunderbird to start unless I start them from a terminal using 'sudo'. This is kinda strange. I used to do this all the time and never had a problem before.
I installed firefox, then did:
cd /etc/firefox
sudo firefox -P
in the profile manager, I set the profile file etc, but when I open firefox without doing 'sudo firefox', it hangs up and cannot find the profile. Why do I have to use 'sudo' to open firefox or thunderbird?
It works fine on my other laptop, but I've deleted & reinstalled ubuntu 3 times on this laptop and still have the same problem.
When I open 'firefox' from the app panel at the top of the screen, it opens on the last web site visited.
I've looked every place I can think to tell it to open in a blank screen. My preferences are set to blank. Right click on the icon > properties shows 'firefox %u'.
Is there something in 'about:config' that would control this and what do I search for?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI got the mozilla FF4, extracted, copied to /usr/lib/firefox, changed the old one to /usr/lib/firefox-3 (I had the 3.03 or something like it) Now,I just can make it work... but just as root! If I am in Konqueror, super user, and click over the firefox it opens Firefox 4, as root. If I open another X, as root, I just need to click the old firefox icon and it opens. As user, there is no way I compared the files from /usr/lib/firefox, the new ones with the old ones in /usr/lib/firefox-3, and the permissions are THE SAME. I even tried to replace the firefox and the run-mozilla.sh, the only difference is that then I can get the update window to appear, but it does nothing and just crash. I didn't touched the /usr/bin/firefox, since it just point to the /usr/lib, and in fact, since it is working as root, in user space and in root KDE,it is OK. I tries first,of course, to get a slack one, but at linuxpackages there is only the FF4 for the newest slacks.

I recently upgraded (via Ubuntuzilla) to firefox 3.5.7 and now, every single time I close Firefox, the program seems to crash without quitting completely.
First, I receive an error saying that the program will not close and asks me if I want to Force Quite or Wait for it to close on its own. This has been happening ever since I upgraded to Karmic and if I just wait it usually quits fully after a couple seconds.
Now what happens is this: the window still closes, but if I try to reopen Firefox then I get this error stating that Firefox is already open and therefore cannot be opened again. The only way to get back into Firefox is to restart the entire computer. (Incidentally, this is the same problem that occurs whenever I try to Force Quit Firefox)
This now happens every single time I "close" Firefox.
Does anyone know the source of this error? Or a workaround?

Truthfully, I don't know if this is a Firefox bug or not, but I've only experienced this on my Fedora machine.
There doesn't seem to be any particular pattern, and it's happened in trusted sites when clicking on various links (like this one for instance), but Firefox will suddenly go mad and just start opening window after window.
The only way I can get out of it is 'ps -ef' 'ing for the firefox process and killing it.
This has happened under both 10 and 12.
