Mar 21, 2011I've tried another forum to get help but I'm still unable to wireless to work on this laptop.

View 4 RepliesI'm trying to install slackware 32 bit 13.1.After loading kernel it asks for keyboard configuration, but keyboard (usb wireless) doesn't work.
Keyboard works on the old 13.0 installation, on bios and also in the boot options of 13.1 installation cd.
I've tried removing legacy usb support and changing usb2.0 speed from high to full. Nothing changed.
Anybody with this strange problem? (kernel of setup seems also to detect it correctly as a trust keyboard).
I recently reinstalled Fedora 15 on my laptop and have been unable to get the wireless driver to work as it has before. I successfully installed the akmod-wl package from rpmfusion, built the akmod successfully, and rebooted with no success.
View 1 Replies View RelatedHave just installed ubuntu 11.04 on an old laptop. I have US robotics 5410 card for wirelss however I am unable to get my wireless to work.
I searched the forum and found this thread - [url] Unfortunately I cannot find '/acx' directory and I am unable to create it.
I just got my new sager p150hm and everything is great, but i can not get the wireless to work in ubuntu. i've been poking in the dark for a good 8 hours total and have made very little progress so far. As I said in the title the card is a bigfoot killer wirless-n which is based on an athos chip. so far i have tried to install the latest compat-wireless package per command line, which failed, so i installed it through apt, which worked, but didn't fix the problem. next i installed the linux-firmware package which didn't do anything either. here is some info on what's what

Currently I'm having trouble connecting to the guest wireless network at my work. I've read through a couple threads that seem similar to my problem. I tried going through the terminal window and following the instructions that was offered to others. I'm just wondering if my hardware is different, if I need drivers, if my permissions aren't correct.
1. I recently received a Sony Vaio laptop model # VGN-FE770G from a friend, and I'm enjoying running Ubuntu.
2. I followed another thread that suggested to change some lines in /etc/network/interfaces, but I don't have permission to edit this file. I don't really have the need to set up multiple users on my laptop, so how can I change my permissions to root? (Or is it a good idea even?) Should I log in as root?
3. How can I set my laptop up to be flexible with network selections, using hardware: (built-in camera and microphone for example), and useful applications?
I ran "ifconfig -a" and this is what I got.

Ubuntu 10.04 not loading. Sticks at GRUB Loading message.
Read the other threads re OS not loading and GRUB. The talk about code goes over my head.
Local techie says the hardware is good. Tried reloading Ubuntu from CD. Tried loading the unmentionable OS.
Tried using Spotmau Powersuite.
Just installed Xubuntu 10.10 on an older computer, but when it boots, Xfce does not. It's just the terminal, asks for my username and password, and that's it.
How do I get it to load Xfce?
I am have trouble getting the ls command to work exactly how I want, for example, sometimes I want to list the contents of a directory into a text file by command:
Code:
ls directory > list.txt
(assume the only objects the directory contains are files with extension .dat eg file1.dat, file2.dat, ...)sometimes I want the relative path of the files prepended to them in my text file eg:
path/file1.dat
path/file2.dat
path/file3.dat
[Code].....
It feels like ls is unpredictable in this regard - sometimes it prepends the path and sometimes it doesn't and sometimes it adds both entries (with and without the path prepended into the text file)....How can better control the way ls works?

I have a E627 Emachine Laptop with an AMD TF-20 processor that runs a Athros Communications AR8132 Fast Ethernet Card rev c0 and the network controller is a Broadcom BGM 4312 802.11 b/g LPPHU rev 01. I have 2 megs of memory and this is the machine that I put the Linux Mint os on.
For days I have been trying to get the wireless to work. I have read everything I could find on the net and know that this machine has a problem with this. I also know that the drivers in Mint don't work even though they are supposed to. I was using Mint 10 which is the stable version and it had the same problem as did Ubuntu which I know is almost the same as Mint and Fedora.
I have decided after many hours that the way to go might be to install one of those thumb drives with a wireless modem built in, but can't find an appropriate Linux one that will work with my setup. Does anyone know if there is such a thing?

I am new to Linux. I have installed RHEL 5.4 on my PC with preloaded Windows XP.

I am fairly new to linux and I just bought a new computer. I have a dell inspiron N4010 and I installed Ubuntu 10.04 on it. I then was unable to connect with a wired connection or wireless. I am sure this is a driver issue I just don't know how to get the proper drivers. If I put my mouse over the wireless icon it says networking disabled. But the switch to enable networking is on the keyboard

View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm using Xubuntu 10.10 and trying desperately to connect to my wireless network. I have tried wicd and network manager when I crashed wicd. First of all I would get a "bad password" message, then I progressed to a "cannot assign IP" now I can connect to the network and see my netbook on my routers GUI but I can't browse. I have an ASUS 901 (bought with Xandros installed as standard). I'm not sure if I am making progress or not because half of the time, I only have a vague idea of what I am doing.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI use a RaLink RT3090 Wireless PCIe card. When I installed Slackware, the required driver was not in the Linux kernel, but a Linux driver did exist, so I downloaded, compiled, and installed it.Initially, when typing lspci -v, I got:Kernel driver in use: rt2860Kernel modules: rt2860sta, rt2800pcifor my card. The driver I compiled was named rt3090sta, and if I typed modprobe rt3090sta, it would not load. Eventually, I discovered that to get it to work, I had to type the following commands.
rmmod rt2860sta
rmmod rt2800pci
modprobe rt3090sta
modporbe rt2800pci
And yes, if I do not enter rmmod rt2800pci, and then modprobe rt2800pci at the end, it will not work. I would like to know how to get rt3090sta toload by default instead of rt2860sta. After I've done this, lspci -v gives me: Kernel driver in use: rt2860rnel modules: rt3090sta, rt2860sta, rt2800pci
I found a solution to my card reader problem in a another fedora post but when I type the code in terminal I get:
all config files need.conf /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist
How to write this code so I wont get this error and I can load these modules and also how to edit the modprobe.conf.
The code is below, using fedora 13.
You must load these two modules to work with card reader.
First : Remove the card from the Reader!
AS superuser type in console :
1. /sbin/modprobe tifm_core <enter>
2. /sbin/modprobe tifm_sd <enter>
If you want to automate these modules loading do the following :
edit the /etc/modprobe.conf file
add these :
alias mmc_core tifm_core
alias mmc_card tifm_sd
