View 14 RepliesI'm booting DSL off of a USB key on a used laptop I just got. wireless, starting with what the wireless card is, then which driver is needed, and then I think I can use ndiswrapper to install the driver and go from there. I was told to do 'lspci -knn' (not all because I'm retyping the output on my computer that has internet working)
Code:
00:00.0 Host bridge [0600]: Intel Corporation mobile 945GM/PM/GMS, 943/940GML and 945GT Express Memory Controller hub [8086:27a0] (rev 03)
00:01.0 PCI bridge [0604]: Intel Corporation mobile 945GM/PM/GMS, 943/940GML and 945GT Express PCI Express Root Port [8086:27a1] (rev 03)
[Code]....
(I left out a lot, let me know if the results of any of these might help: Audio Device, USB Controller, ISA bridge, IDE interface, SMBus, VGA compatible controller, Firewire)
as part of a course project, I need to document and demonstrate how to install and set up a Wireless adapter with CentOS 5.1.I have the following devices available:

Installed new wireless modem and router. how to connect it to my Ubuntu operating system. So far I can only find a place to enter information but don't know where to find it. It asks for "SSID"-"Mode Infrastructure"-"BSSID"- "Device Mac Address "Cloned Mac Address" and "MTU Automatic". where to find this information or if I am even in the right window to setup this new modem.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have some Flex and Java files which can be compiled with JDK1.5. My server was already loaded with 1.4 (at path /usr/bin/java) and our sys admin(I dont know why) copied another JDK, JDK 1.5 at path /usr/java/jdk1.5.0_16/. It seems very easy to use this java. Just set the path in .bash_profile. I did it and now if I run which java I still see the path for java 1.4 not java 1.5. Am I doing something wrong? Following is actual entry from bash_profile
Code:
PATH=$PATH:$HOME/bin
PATH=/usr/java/jdk1.5.0_16/bin:$PATH
JAVA_HOME=/usr/java/jdk1.5.0_16/
export PATH JAVA_HOME
I want to ssh, scp, git fetch, etc. without a password. I saw the previous questions, and closed ones regarding this issue, but the suggestion seems to be to use ssh keys. However, after setting up ssh keys, I am still asked for my password (it's not asking for my private key password; it's asking for my login password). How am I supposed to set this up so that it only uses my private key for authentication?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a device that is only accessible using wireless. By default it starts an ad-hoc wireless I can connect to. The problem is there is no internet access on the ad-hoc. So I'm connecting it to my router using the commands (its a gnu/linux):
iwconfig ath0 mode managed essid "ESSID"
ifconfig ath0 192.168.1.25 netmask 255.255.255.0 up
route add default gw 192.168.1.1
I want to add it to start up script but I don't want to get locked out of the device forever if something happens to the router (its really old). Is there any way to check if the connection failed and create an ad-hoc instead if it failed?

I have a E627 Emachine Laptop with an AMD TF-20 processor that runs a Athros Communications AR8132 Fast Ethernet Card rev c0 and the network controller is a Broadcom BGM 4312 802.11 b/g LPPHU rev 01. I have 2 megs of memory and this is the machine that I put the Linux Mint os on.
For days I have been trying to get the wireless to work. I have read everything I could find on the net and know that this machine has a problem with this. I also know that the drivers in Mint don't work even though they are supposed to. I was using Mint 10 which is the stable version and it had the same problem as did Ubuntu which I know is almost the same as Mint and Fedora.
I have decided after many hours that the way to go might be to install one of those thumb drives with a wireless modem built in, but can't find an appropriate Linux one that will work with my setup. Does anyone know if there is such a thing?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am fairly new to linux and I just bought a new computer. I have a dell inspiron N4010 and I installed Ubuntu 10.04 on it. I then was unable to connect with a wired connection or wireless. I am sure this is a driver issue I just don't know how to get the proper drivers. If I put my mouse over the wireless icon it says networking disabled. But the switch to enable networking is on the keyboard

First of all I would get a "bad password" message, then I progressed to a "cannot assign IP" now I can connect to the network and see my netbook on my routers GUI but I can't browse. I have an ASUS 901 (bought with Xandros installed as standard). I'm not sure if I am making progress or not because half of the time, I only have a vague idea of what I am doing.

I think that is is booting up the recovery partion of Windows. I don't know how to change it so that it is looking at the correct portition. I know it has something to do with the menu.lst file but when I try to open it says that I do not have premission. I am not sure where to go to edit it.
