View 2 RepliesI have installed a Musix 2.0 distro which is based on Debian. My problem is that the sound card which is a Creative Sound Blaster is not either set correctly or does not have the right driver. It appears in the system as Audio PCI 128 and with the driver:
snd-ens1371.My mother board has over 1gb ram with a 900 mghz processor by AMD. No sound onboard, with an inserted sound card.
My cache is full, and I've tried doing "apt-get clean" to no avail. I also can't find any apt.conf file in my system. Here is a screenshot of the error message that pops up when I open Synaptic Package Manager:PS: I'm pretty new to Linux, especially Debian; most of my Unix-like OS experience is with Mac OS X. My Musix installation is in a VMWare machine.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am new to Linux and using Linux Mint 11 RC after trying Ubuntu, and Fedora. I am not new to computing having owned and written software for Amiga, and owned and built different Windows machines.
I have a E627 Emachine Laptop with an AMD TF-20 processor that runs a Athros Communications AR8132 Fast Ethernet Card rev c0 and the network controller is a Broadcom BGM 4312 802.11 b/g LPPHU rev 01. I have 2 megs of memory and this is the machine that I put the Linux Mint os on.
For days I have been trying to get the wireless to work. I have read everything I could find on the net and know that this machine has a problem with this. I also know that the drivers in Mint don't work even though they are supposed to. I was using Mint 10 which is the stable version and it had the same problem as did Ubuntu which I know is almost the same as Mint and Fedora.
I have decided after many hours that the way to go might be to install one of those thumb drives with a wireless modem built in, but can't find an appropriate Linux one that will work with my setup. Does anyone know if there is such a thing?
I have just downloaded Ubuntu today on a dell inspiron 1525 but I cannot get the wireless to work I know very little about linux but want to learn

View 14 Replies View Relatedi just got the new pardus 2011 i love it.i was testing the live dvd of it of a usb drive and i tried to get my wireless to work, but i couldn't. i mean,it detected the network, i actully put my password in, and it seemed that it was going to connect , but it stopped while acquiring ip address. the router is fine, also the wireless card,i'm writing this from windows 7,which works wireless, i can also use wireless from ubuntu, GNOME version, and from linuxmint (GNOME)
i saw on the release notes that they changed to the Gnome's NetowrkManager and i thought it was going to work.i kinda like KDE and am going to give you any infos you consider useful. i'll be booting and rebooting through pardus to give you logs.
I've tried another forum to get help but I'm still unable to wireless to work on this laptop.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am fairly new to linux and I just bought a new computer. I have a dell inspiron N4010 and I installed Ubuntu 10.04 on it. I then was unable to connect with a wired connection or wireless. I am sure this is a driver issue I just don't know how to get the proper drivers. If I put my mouse over the wireless icon it says networking disabled. But the switch to enable networking is on the keyboard

View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm looking for a wireless card that will work out of the box with Ubuntu 9.10. It has to be a pci card. I purchased a Edimax EW-7128G which the reviews said was a great card for linux but was DOA. I could have it replaced or get a different card.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've got a problem with my wireless connection. I've recently installed Linux Mint Isadora on my Asus Eee pc R101 netbook and I now can't find the wireless drivers to get it work.
View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter deciding to get into Linux and start learning the secrets of it, I decided to install it on my laptop. Now I have a small problem. How can I get my wireless connection to work on it? I have read few guides and tips on the internet regarding the iwconfig and the rc.wireless_conf files, but it didn't get me anywhere. I have Slackware 13.37
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm using Xubuntu 10.10 and trying desperately to connect to my wireless network. I have tried wicd and network manager when I crashed wicd. First of all I would get a "bad password" message, then I progressed to a "cannot assign IP" now I can connect to the network and see my netbook on my routers GUI but I can't browse. I have an ASUS 901 (bought with Xandros installed as standard). I'm not sure if I am making progress or not because half of the time, I only have a vague idea of what I am doing.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI dual boot with windows xp and ubuntu 9.10. When using windows my wireless works fine but when using ubuntu my wireless does not work. The first time ubuntu was loaded the wireless was working and then while I was trying to figure out how to load a program I messed up a grub file. As I couldn't fix it I just reinstalled Ubuntu and since then my wireless is inoperable in Ubuntu only.

View 4 Replies View Relatedhow to get my wireless connection to work on the network. I don't see anywhere to go to see if the wireless adapter is even setup in Fedora. My other question is when I boot up and get the options to select the OS the first one is Fedora but the other one says it is other.
I think that is is booting up the recovery partion of Windows. I don't know how to change it so that it is looking at the correct portition. I know it has something to do with the menu.lst file but when I try to open it says that I do not have premission. I am not sure where to go to edit it.
I've been with Ubuntu since about 10.10 and a little before, but did a trial. I just installed 11.04 tonight, and my wireless driver is having an issue. I installed it, and reset my computer to complete the installation, but it still doesn't pick up anything wireless, just Ethernet.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI want to install Linux on my laptop. I started with Arch but 4 hours later, I'll take anything so now I'm trying Ubuntu. It appears that the keyboard function button that corresponds to my wireless does not work, and perhaps is windows dependent?Every time I try to interact with wlan0, I get the error "Operation not possible due to RF-kill". And as I've looked around online, it has been suggested in other forums that the only way to resolve this is to reinstall windows and dual boot, so the FN key will work.
I think this is ridiculous. There must be a way to persuade the RF-kill to be turned off again, shouldn't there?I don't have a recover disk for this laptop and I don't want to go through the trouble of requested one from acer. I reformatted the whole disk while attempted to install arch.
Will the Netgear WPN111 wireless adapter work with Ubuntu 10.10? If so what action is required to get connected with it running Ubuntu 10.10. The adapter works with Windows XP.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI wanted some input on chronic problems with Ubuntu:
1. Why does wireless almost never work right on Ubuntu?
2. Why, when Ubuntu just decides to turn off my wireless card, can I not just turn it back on?
3. Why do tar balls almost never unpack right?
4. Why are printer drivers so buggy?
5. Why do my MP3 players and digital cameras not work with Ubuntu?
I spent 3 hours last night trying to unpack a tar.bz2 file so I can run my Ralink network card. It worked fine until my son unplugged my computer. Now my card is disconnected and it will not reconnect. When I check forums no one has a simple answer for something as simple as turning a network card back on. On my Apple, it's simple: click my wireless icon and hit "on." tell me an easy way to just turn my wireless card back on, it would renew my faith a little in Linux.
I have a Dell inspiron 1420 and its set up as a dual boot. Windows/Fedora.I cant get the wireless card to work. I review some previous posts but still cant get it working.
I did a /sbin/lspci
Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4310 USB Controller (rev 01)
I did $rpm -q b43-fwcutter
b43-fwcutter-011-3.fc9.i386
I have a dell 1521 and I can't get internet working, I thing the driver is no working with ubuntu 9.10
View 1 Replies View RelatedI want to switch my laptop from XP to Ubuntu, but right now, i cant risk installing it. i dont want to have it partitioned so i can dual boot, so for now i only run the try-it-out mode. Before i consider installing though, i want to see if i can get everything to work ahead of time, that way im not regreting instalation. I have a Compaq Presario V2000 laptop, with 55GB hard drive and 516MB ram. So far, the trial mode is working great, but the wireless will not work. Ive tried to install the driver, but i am unable to do so. I have looked this up, and i have tried many things, and so far, none have worked.I was wondering if it was just part of the trial thing or not, but it is a Broadcom Wireless BCM4318 driver
View 9 Replies View RelatedSorry for repeating the same old complaint but there doesn't seem to be a common fix: Wireless does not work on my Presario R3000 although SUSE 11.x lists the hardware in the Hardware Information list and the hardware is turned on. Network Manager doesn't display any wireless networks in SUSE while Win 7 can see 4 of them on the same machine. Ubuntu has no problem either
