View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm using Xubuntu 10.10 and trying desperately to connect to my wireless network. I have tried wicd and network manager when I crashed wicd. First of all I would get a "bad password" message, then I progressed to a "cannot assign IP" now I can connect to the network and see my netbook on my routers GUI but I can't browse. I have an ASUS 901 (bought with Xandros installed as standard). I'm not sure if I am making progress or not because half of the time, I only have a vague idea of what I am doing.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been with Ubuntu since about 10.10 and a little before, but did a trial. I just installed 11.04 tonight, and my wireless driver is having an issue. I installed it, and reset my computer to complete the installation, but it still doesn't pick up anything wireless, just Ethernet.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI want to install Linux on my laptop. I started with Arch but 4 hours later, I'll take anything so now I'm trying Ubuntu. It appears that the keyboard function button that corresponds to my wireless does not work, and perhaps is windows dependent?Every time I try to interact with wlan0, I get the error "Operation not possible due to RF-kill". And as I've looked around online, it has been suggested in other forums that the only way to resolve this is to reinstall windows and dual boot, so the FN key will work.
I think this is ridiculous. There must be a way to persuade the RF-kill to be turned off again, shouldn't there?I don't have a recover disk for this laptop and I don't want to go through the trouble of requested one from acer. I reformatted the whole disk while attempted to install arch.
Sorry for repeating the same old complaint but there doesn't seem to be a common fix: Wireless does not work on my Presario R3000 although SUSE 11.x lists the hardware in the Hardware Information list and the hardware is turned on. Network Manager doesn't display any wireless networks in SUSE while Win 7 can see 4 of them on the same machine. Ubuntu has no problem either
View 1 Replies View RelatedRecently I have installed Fedora 14 on my other laptop. It's a dual boot with Windows 7. Everything worked perfectly fine, networking included, until my friend didn't accidently turned off the wireless by pressing a wireless button on the laptop. Since then the wireless on Fedora doesn't work. It does on Windows thought. I've tried restarting the laptop few times, but the wireless still doesn't want to work again.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have currently installed Linux Mint 10 Gnome 32-bit edition and I have a iPod Touch 2nd gen with 32GB.I was able to see the music(mp3 files) in my iPod touch in linux mint 8 and 9. But currently I have the following issues:When I connect my iPod Touch with the system I got two popup asking me You have just inserted digital audio player.ose what applications to launch"ou have just inserted a medium with digital photos. Choose what applications to launch"I know that these are popups are normal. I currently dnot have any photos or videos in my iPod Touch(will try to add them in the future) so I used Rhythmbox to open the music present in my iPod touch. I'm able to find my iPod under "Devices" in Rhythmbox. But when I click it, Rhythmbox shows that there are no music present in my iPod Touch by showing "0 artist" and "0 Albums".
However I know for sure that there are definitely songs in my iPod since I'm able to browse and play songs directly from my iPod. Is there any way to resolve this? I have also tried opening it in banshee but with the same result.I tried to drag and drop songs present in my library of rhythmbox to my iPod and this does not do any thing. Previously in LM 8 or 9, when I do drag and drop I will be able to see my new songs in my iPod.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Vaio M13 M1E, and I'm trying the Linux Mint 10 (Julia) DVD, via a bootable USB stick created Universal USB Installer, but the wireless isn't working. On the other hand, trying Ubuntu 10.10 Netbook it works fine - given that Mint is a variant of Ubuntu, I'd have expected it to work the same.I've tried searching, but not found anything relevant, so anyone have suggestions on what to try?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a pretty decent DSL connection that usually gave me about 105KB/second download speed over wifi. The "official" download speed was 1.5 megabits so I should have been getting a bit more, but that's not my question.
I recently switched to Mint from Ubuntu. Now my download speed is significantly slower, to the tune of 45 KB/second. Since the connection runs at normal speed when I connect via an ethernet cable, my guess is that mint doesn't give enough power to the wifi card. Is there any way I can fix that?
I have a Realtek WN511b wireless card with a BM4321 chip.
It runs on the wl driver but when I boot the system the card won't install.
With help (I am noob) we have figured out that the ssb and the b43 drivers are installing even though I have them blacklisted. I have seen similar problems described elsewhere but no real fixes.
I can boot the system (Dell d630) then pop the card out and re-insert, enter password and it connects no problem.
It would be nice if it simply installed on boot.
Wondering if anyone had a solution?
i have a zenda w322u usb wireless adapter that gives a good connection to wireless router but seems to give very poor download performance compared to my laptop. Are there settings that i can access for this adapter to improve its performance.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am currently dual booting between Linux Mint 10, and Windows Vista SP2. Wireless works fine in both these OSes, but when I quit Mint and load Windows, 70% of the time my wireless stops working.
ie, it does not detect any wireless networks nearby, althought there are tons of them.
Restarting the wireless device doesnt help, I have to restart my computer at least 4 times for wireless to start working again.
And as of now, my wireless in Linux Mint has stopped working.
Just installed kubuntu(maverick) on my laptop. Strangely enough the wireless doesn't seem to be working. I had no issues with a gnome version of maverick. Now I'm probably doing something wrong, since I'm very new to KDE. But there's a little icon for something called "Networking Interface". There are two checkboxes inside the panel. One's called "Enable Networking"(checked) and "Enable Wireless" which is disabled.
Other than that I can't really elaborate further. I doubt it's a driver issue, since as I already mentioned I had no problems using a gnome ubuntu.
I have an Atheros wireless USB dongle that will connect to my Wifi network just fine in Gnome but in KDE doesn't. I've read through the http://wiki.debian.org/WiFi/HowToUse and have installed all packages and tried all methods noted there but still can't get the wlan0 to work at all in KDE. Is wireless in KDE & Debian Squeeze useless?

Sometimes the connection indicator shows that I am connected, but when I click on it it doesn't show any active networks. Even when I use a wired connection it doesn't always work.

What should I do to repair wireless?
I installed openSUSE 11.3 under 2 machines, one of them using a Linksys USB wireless N adapter (rt73usb) and another using an Atheros AR5001 Wireless Network Adapter (ath5k). I have a Belkin f5D8236-4 router, with the SSID "linksys". I also have an Ubuntu 10.04 machine which has working wireless internet. I know almost nothing about networking, but from what I can tell, openSUSE 11.3 seems to have trouble with DHCP, specifically setting the dynamic IP address. To try to go about fixing this, I attempted to set a static IP, but I am quite confused by all the settings.
I have tried both the graphical "Network Manager" (KDE, Gnome, and command line versions) and ifup, both with no luck.
Here is the information from the working Ubuntu machine code...
Last week used lxde11.3 and no problem connecting. Today I switched to xfce11.3
and the wifi card is registering fine as connected but it doesn't send the key out
apparently to register the connection to the modem so it is fully activated.
I think lxde had a network manager but in xfce here I'm using Yast. What mismatch
do I have here ? How do I start a network manager so the key will connect ?
I'm working on Lucid, in HP Pavilion 9730us laptop.
My wireless broadcom card was working just fine until now as i installed it with the Hardware Devices manager, Today i put a new ALFA AWUS036H usb card to work with aircrack. both cards were working together for a while, but as i started playing around with aircrack the broadcom card of the HP has stopped working.
I made a mistake and followed the aircrack tutorial for R8187 / ieee80211 stacks driver, while i'm using RTL 8187 / mac80211 stack drivers, and blacklisted the RTL8187 , rebooted and then both card didn't work. I un-blacklisted it, and the ALFA is working but the broadcom not!
iwconfig shows me only one wireless card on wlan0 the blue light showing activity in the HP card doesn't go on.
Tried to uninstall and reinstall broadcom drivers, still no change.
