When I try and boot my Debian computer I get the messages: Grub Loading stage1.5. Grub loading, please wait... Error 15 Is there any way of recovering from this - or is it simply a fresh install? I was attempting an upgrade from Lenny to Squeeze and despite a few hurdles it looked like it was all happening. Got the new kernel loading, and the new grub. It looked as though grub2 was working so I ran the grub-remove-legacy-support command (something like that) and now my computer won't boot grub or Linux.
I'm assuming the MBR on my harddrive is lost, however I don't know what state the partition is in. I'm guessing that maybe this has been lost as well. I tried a few tools from the Ultimate Boot CD but nothing here was able to re-install my grub or boot from any partition or even mount my file-system. I'm fearing the worst but would like it confirmed before I blow it all away with a new install.
actually i have installed ubuntu inside windoz 7.it was working fine bt i was understanding the the grub file and made few changes in it.thereafter the grub is not loading
I'm triple booting (windows, ubuntu and osx86) at the moment but in order to load OSX86, I need to pass "cpus=1" to the kernel otherwise it won't load and the PC just reboots. Can I pass this argument from grub or do I have to install osx to a separate hdd and get grub to load the Darwin bootloader on the second hdd and then pass the argument?
when i turn on my computer i get a message saying grub loading...I wait around 20 minutes and still it gives me the same message. There is no error message. i am using a live cd right now.
I'm using an Eee netbook so i have no CD drive. I've used Linux for about a week. Someone else installed it for me using their flash drive. If I need to use a flash drive to install I will need info on how to install to a flash drive. I had it set up so i could choose windows or ubuntu at start up. logged into windows to play a game and all it brought up was.
GRUB loading. error: no such partition grub rescue>
I've a folder named "lynx" in my desktop . It contains ebooks - pdfs, chms etc . The problem is sometimes when i open the folder in nautilus , the folder keep loading forever and sometimes it shows two or three files and keep on loading . But at some other times , folder contents are displayed just as any other folder(i.e normal ).
I've resisted the urge to post for as long as I could. I use these forums quite often in finding answers to the numerous linux questions that I've had & found it to be a great resource. For some reason after an innocent reboot of my Fedora 12 Core system, GRUB decided it would no longer load the O/S. I was just getting a flashing _ in the top left of the screen. I thought there must be a problem with the partition table & have used the systemRescueCd to run testdisk (I have made a copy of the disk first to an image file using dd - don't worry I made sure I got the commands around the correct way!).
testdisk shows that I have a partition which is bootable & Primary, which appears to be the grub partition (I can list the files in test disk). However when I search the disk I get the following after it has found a couple of partitions. (it is an 80Gb disk)
I installed Drupal and there is only one site. It I access the website [url] where Drupal is installed I can easily see it functioning properly. But on internet it is not loading properly the colors etc are not visible properly.
A few days ago I installed openSUSE 11.4 on a 1TB HP external hard drive. I have some very important files for school and personal work on my main hard drive, running windows 7, so I made sure the installation only affected my external hard drive. With the external hard drive plugged in it boots just fine but when it is un-plugged it says Grub loading stage 1.5. Error 21 and it won't do anything. This kind of pisses me off because there were no warnings and nothing was supposed to happen to my main hard drive. But this has already happened and now I want to know if there is any way I could fix it so I can boot windows 7 normally and still boot openSUSE with the external hard drive plugged in.
I know nothing about this at all. I have never programmed a computer.. I loaned my tower to a friend who put this on ...now i have it back and cant get to my windows 98. all i get each time i boot is ...
GRUB loading ... error:no such disk grub recover>
I have tried ubuntu sec 8.4 recover mode and all i get is unreconized command.. i do not know how to set anything.. i have no disks for this not even the orginal windows recover disk.. is their anything i can do to get win to run as it use to??
Yesterday I partitioned my hard drive with kubuntu netbook remix and windows 7. after a few hours and reboots i turned on my computer and it said Grub loading. unknown filesystem rescue grub> It looks like allot of people have been having similar errors recently with windows 7.
My Server runs "fine", then I type init 6 for rebooting or some cron job initiates Init 6 and my system stops in grub at: GRUB loading stage1.5. Error 18 After another Ctrl+Alt+Del the system boots as if anything happened. this is why I doubt that it's an issue of too big HDD or BIOS.
So I have 2 ide hdds but whenever they are both connected, grub gets stuck at GRUB loading stage 1.5. how can I resolve this problem? both are Maxtors with ext4 fs. primary is 20 gb and secondary 80 gb. Jumpers are set to cable select. Boot order in bios is correct. (primary first, secondary isn't in the list at all)
I recently re-installed my dead home server with Ubuntu 9.10 Server but it seems that there is a large delay loading grub, before the error "error: no such disk" comes up and the Ubuntu finally boots normally. I've videoed it, see what I mean at http://www.......com/watch?v=0H7hsa5QIc0 .
What would be causing this error and how would I go about fixing it?
I just upgraded to 10.04 from 9.10 and when I choose to boot to my Win7 Pro it just loops back to the grub menu. I did choose the partition that Windows is on when I was upgrading and it shows up in the menu.
I updated Ubuntu and part of it was an update to grub. When it came up in the installation I told it to keep the old one and left everything as it was. Then when I tried to reboot into Windows it gave an error message. So I went back into Ubuntu and reinstalled grub and now when I select Windows it just loops back to grub.
Recently I have had some problems starting linux, It gets to a part where it says it's loading grub and gives a countdown. I am using 10.4 ubuntu and it shows next a white ubuntu symbol. It then starts doing a system scan and gives a percentage when it gets to 33% it stops and says it can't mountall and that there is something wrong with the file system I can't get past this unless I don't even let the scan start. I think something is a file is messed up but I have no idea what to do.
I have an Ubuntu Jaunty server with 4 x 1 TB Hitachi SATA Hard drives and a 4GB IDE Flash Drive. I installed the root file system to the IDE Flash Drive and setup the 4 x 1 TB Hard Drives as a RAID 5 for the home partition (I actually allotted 3 Gigs on each drive as swap space as well). My problem occurs however when I restart my computer after the server installation. Grub doesn't load fully and I am left with a "GRUB_" message on the screen. My root partition is ext3 and I have also tried the same configuration with a boot partition as well on the IDE drive to no avail.
installed my amazing ubuntu on virutalbox because i have windows. after i "rebooted" my box it took a fail and says "GRUB loading..." and never stops loading until vb eventually gets fed up and just crashes...
I have UBUNTU 9.10 and WIN 7 installed on my computer. I turn computer on, choose UBUNTU, do what I need and shut down computer (or reset - doesn't matter). Turn on computer again and get message:
GRUB loading. no module name found Aborted. Press any key to exit. Operating System Not Found.
So I turn comp from Live CD, install GRUB and after resetting computer everything seems fine - but unfortunately not for long. Next reset and the problem is back again. The problem only occurs when I choose UBUNTU. There is no problem with WIN 7...
I have been running Ubuntu 9.10 ever since it was released, on my HTPC. However, for some reason when a new kernel comes out and I upgrade to it GRUB 2 doesn't load the newest kernel but just loads the old original kernel that came with it when I originally installed 9.10. I have confirmed that the newer kernels are installed by editing the GRUB 2 command line at startup (just a temporary fix) and all worked well with the newer kernels. How can I make GRUB 2 load the newest kernel by default. On my laptop running 9.10 it has loaded the newest kernel by default ever since I installed it but my HTPC just won't cooperate.
I was and idiot and stared messing around gparted before I was ready to partition my hard drive. Consequently I messed up my partitions, and when I restarted my computer a screen comes up that reads:
GRUB loading. error: no such partition grub rescue> _
Have I killed my computer or is there some way I can fix it?
I have a dual boot system with Windows 7 and Ubuntu 9.10. I booted into Ubuntu and started the process to upgrade to Ubuntu 10.04. When it was all finished, it restarted and attempted to boot into the GRUB load screen. However, I get this message:
I have Windows xp and Ubuntu 10.04 in my system and last fine morning I was working in windows and when I restarts the system as there were some problem in the audio I found that the grub is not loading. Computer boots directly in the windows xp mode and not giving the possibility to boot in the ubuntu OS. Also, the windows xp restarts continuously with a blue screen for just a second.
This happened out-of-the blue. What might be the possible reason for this and how to get rid of this problem..
i was using dual operating system windows xp and linux ubuntu. I was upgrading my windows from xp to windows 7 and as usual the windows messedup it stopped installation halfway and now it gives me only two options for rollback or go to the previous windows (which it is not going to either). It is not loading the UBUNTU GRUB. Did windows kill my ubuntu ?
