Now I guess I have QT installed and I tried to do the following:

I am using Debian testing. If I install the gnome-desktop-environment then the sound driver defaults to HDA but since I just installed gnome-core (for a more stripped-down version of gnome) the default is the OSS driver. How do I get ALSA to default to the sound driver HDA?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Realtek ALC262 sound card, using the ALSA-1.0.20 driver, when I load the driver module manually using the command "modprobe snd-hda-intel model=basic", the card can work correctly, but I do not know how to modify the config file "modules.conf" or others to add the model type, so that the driver module can be load automaticly when the computer is startup, anyone knows that?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just got rid of pulseaudio because it breaks in so many different situations. I've switched to Alsa, and all of my sound is working except in mpd. It seems like I have to set audio_output in /etc/mpd.conf. Here is my config file:
audio_output {
type "alsa"
driver "pcm"
name "whatever"
}
When I start mpd, this is what happens:
$ sudo mpd --no-daemon --stdout --verbose
playlist: play 1:"Party Playlist/01 Block Rockin' Beats.mp3"
decoder: audio_format=44100:24:2, seekable=true
alsa: default period_time = buffer_time/4 = 371519/4 = 92879
alsa: buffer_size=16384 period_size=4096
output: opened plugin=alsa name="My MPD Alsa Output" audio_format=44100:24:2
playlist: queue song 2:"Party Playlist/01 Umbrella [Feat. Jay-Z].mp3"
output: closed plugin=alsa name="My MPD Alsa Output"
^Clisten: listen_global_finish called
db_finish took 0.000000 seconds
And I hear the song play for less than a second before the audio_output driver is closed. There really aren't any error messages printed explaining why it's not working. I've also tried "oss", "esd" and "ao" for the audio_output type, and none of them work.
As alsaconf as been removed from alsa-utils in Squeeze, how to configure ALSA ?
Which replacement for alsaconf ?
Debian is squeeze.
Package alsa-utils v1.0.22-1
Currently alsamixer is running fine for setup but i.e. speaker-test produce no sound.
Previous Lenny installation was working once alsaconf ran.
Anyone know the best way to install ALSA 1.0.23 to Fedora 13? Are there packages anywhere or does it have to be installed from source?

I'm pretty new at working with Linux/Unix systems, just started dealing with the CLI a week or two ago at work so bear with me if my questions/problems seem obvious, they probably aren't to me. URLs are at the bottom since I can't hyperlink to them. We have a server with Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5.2 (Tikanga), x86_64 GNU/Linux. For the past few days at least (not sure when it began) every five minutes we get two messages for CPU0 and CPU1 saying: "Temperature above threshold, cpu clock throttled". Occasionally it says they are normal, so they're not *always* above the threshold but a majority the time.
The server doesn't have internet, so I interact with it and transfer files via ssh/telnet/sftp from my Windows PC to another server running Fedora release 10 (Cambridge) to the RHEL5 server. I have been trying to install lm_sensors to try and read the CPU temperature and possibly the fan speed, but every installation method has failed. I have tried installing it via the yum command I read about on this page (URL 1), but since it doesn't have internet access it didn't work. I then tried manually installing using the instructions on the lm-sensors.org page (URL 2), but whenever I try to install anything (gcc, libtool,
libsysfs) it shows:
checking for gcc... no
checking for cc... no
checking for cl.exe... no
configure: error: in '/home/user/src/libtool-2.4':
configure: error: no acceptable C compiler found in $PATH
I then looked up how to install gcc, but when I found a .rpm file of gcc 4.1.2 for RHEL5 I tried installing that like it mentions here (URL 3), but there are lots of [dependancy] programs I can't find a .rpm for as it seems they are all outdated and hard to find for RHEL5. Do I need to find the installation CD in order to install gcc? And is there any other way to check the cpu temperature or to know how to disable/fix the messages about temperature being above threshold?

Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you installed software in a non-standard prefix. Alternatively, you may set the environment variables LIBEMPATHY_CFLAGS and LIBEMPATHY_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config. See the pkg-config man page for more details.
I have recently been forced to do a hardware upgrade (my previous mobo died). Now, sounds works ok with, amarok because kde has recognized the new hardware and switched to it.
..... does not work, likely because flash uses alsa-oss which is probably not configured automatically. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling both alsa-oss and flash, but it didn't solve the problem.

GUI audio players like Rhythmbox and Totem work just fine. I believe all of the audio on my computer depends on alsa. Another command that works just fine is aplay, aplay -q /usr/lib/openoffice/basis3.1/share/gallery/sounds/cow.wav
and aplay definitely uses alsa. My only other clue is, when I shut the machine down, one of the messages printed to the console during shutdown was something about /etc/default/timidity. Timidity is something that converts MIDI to WAV, and it may have nothing to do with my mpg123 problem. I am running Debian Lenny. How can I troubleshoot mpg123? Or would it be likely to help if I simply uninstall and reinstall mpg123? That might be easier than troubleshooting.
