Ubuntu Installation :: Configure Autoclicker In The Terminal - "bash: ./configure: No Such File Or Directory?

After that, run:

Software :: Unable To Compile Gnome Commander - Bash: ./configure: No Such File Or Directory

Feb 2, 2011

I have downloaded the latest gnome commander source code from the gnome commander home page. Following the instructions in the readme I have extracted it from the tar ball and changed to the top level directory of the source code. I execute ./configure and get a bunch of "checking" results.

Quote:

bash: ./configure: No such file or directory
ken@ubuntu:~/Desktop/gnome-commander-1.2.8.9/src$ cd ..
ken@ubuntu:~/Desktop/gnome-commander-1.2.8.9$ ./configure

[code]....

I find Makefile.am and Makefile.in present in the directory. I generally install from deb packages. Still, I don't think it should be this hard to compile a package given the seemingly simple directions provided.

General :: Configure The Way Bash Completes Directory Names?

Sep 7, 2011

I'd like to instruct bash to use a special method to perform completion on certain directory names. For example, bash would call a program of mine to perform completion if a path starts with "$$", and perform completion normally otherwise. Is this at all possible? How would you implement it? The goal is to allow autojump to complete paths for all commands when the user starts them with a certain prefix. So for example when copying a file from a far directory, you could type: cp $$patern + <Tab>

and autojump would complete cp /home/user/CompliCatedDireCTOry/long/path/bla/bla and you would just have to add where you want to put the file. Of course I can use ott's comment to add it to a few specific commands

Fedora Networking :: Couldn't Find Any Step-by-step Installation Guides For NM

Jan 23, 2010

My son's desktop has Fedora 12 and a wireless card. Everything worked for a long time until one fine day the network management just disappeared from both System/Preferences menu and the panel on top.I can run a Live CD with Fedora 12 on that machine and it immediately connects to our home wireless network. Booting from hard drive has no sign of NM. Trying to run 'yum install NetworkManager-gnome' does nothing because there is no connection. Running the same command as a LiveUser from CD does seem to install everything (but where to???), no errors reported, and still the is no network functionality upon reboot from the hard drive, even when plugging to LAN with a cable. It seems that I need NetworkManager in order to go online in order to install NetworkManager.I have other computers at home that work fine, I was able to download a couple of archives with NM, but I am new to Linux and have no idea what to do with those files.I could not find any step-by-step installation guides for NM, especially when the computer has no connection at all.

Ubuntu Installation :: Error Message At Step 5: No Root File System

The caption of the error is 'No root file system' and the message itself says 'No root file system is defined. Please correct this from the partitioning menu.' I enclose a screenshot of this. I had also problems with booting Ubuntu and Windows after installing Ubuntu to an external hard disk so I probably have to also create a new boot menu (may be it is differently called, 'grub' possibly, I am not really sure).

I have got the latest kernel from the kernal.ubuntu area and installed it. Run grub-update, reboot... Nothing. So I decided to run apt-get install just to make sure there was nothing that needed to be installed.
The following is what I have got

Now from my research this means that I don't have a bootable system.

Ubuntu Installation :: Couldn't Configure DHCP

Sep 9, 2010

I am a web designer and don't know anything about servers. My server service provider use Linux environment and sometime it would be much easier for me to have a local server to test my websites. So I have install a fresh copy of Ubuntu 10.04 to one of my computer. Half way installation, the system tell me something like couldn't configure the DHCP, I have checked that my router has enabled DHCP servers (D-Link 615). After installation and logon, I use sudo pppoeconf command and try to set the network.

But it said something like no PPPoE access. I know I am very dull, and maybe get ban from this forum because I have not read the instruction, it will be great if you can point me to the right page. All I want to do is have something like a web space + MySQL and support PHP to work with.

Ubuntu Installation :: Automatically Configure Apt-get And Proxy?

May 8, 2011

I recently installed Ubuntu 9.04 and I'm having issues with apt-get and proxy configuration. Upon initial install I attempted to set the proxy configuration through the GUI and opted for the "manual proxy" configuration. Part way through entering the proxy server name I decided to use the "automatic proxy" configuration option instead. I checked this radio box and entered the URL to automatically configure the proxy information.

At this point everything seeemed to work fine. I ran "apt-get update" and, partway through the update process, I decided to abort the update by pressing control-c. Now I am unable to use apt-get to perform any updates. It gives me several errors stating it is unable to resolve "www" (which is the partial name of the proxy server I began to enter before deciding to use the auto configuration option).

No problem I thought...I'll just go into "/etc/apt/apt.conf" and change the name. Except the name in the apt.conf file is correct. I brought up "synaptic" and changed the network configuration there (as it had the same issue) and now synaptic works fine. I am also able to use the GUI Update Manager to update my system. Still apt-get update fails. Here is one of the error lines it spits out:

Ubuntu Installation :: How To Configure MBR To Point To GRUB

Sep 1, 2011

I am interested in running Ubuntu side-by-side with my windows 7. It appears that the Ubuntu 11.04 installer does most of the work for me as partitioning according to:[URL] but the only thing it says that I would be having to do myself is changing the code on my MBR to point to the GRUB2. I am not afraid of command prompts, but would like some hand holding as I don't wwant to guess and check when dealing with MBR.

1. Is there any way to share documents between my Ubuntu partition and Windows partition? Or some way to make it so documents and non OS specific files are accessible by both OSs?

2. Is it recommended to let Ubuntu do the partitioning for me? Or is there something to be gained by partitioning myself?

Ubuntu Installation :: How To Configure The Multi Boot

Aug 21, 2011

I want to install Ubuntu 11.04 along my current Windows XP installation and I am trying to figure out the following:

1. How to recognize the relationship between Windows disk drive letters and the Linux disk drive indicators like /dev/sda/

2. How to configure the multi boot?

3. Where to place the Linux swap file?

4. Which Linux filesystem is the best for general use?

The specifics:

Pair of identical Seagate SATA2 80GB drives partitioned in Windows as follows:

When looking through the Ubuntu installation to be configured, I assume that drive 0 is /dev/sda where I have 3 partitions sda1, sda5, sda3. Drive 1 would be /dev/sdb with partitions sdb1, sdb5, sdb3 and I am not sure which corresponds to the Windows drive letters.

I would like to dedicate the empty drive K: for the Linux installation, swap space & data, and use minimal amount of space of drive C: for the dual boot.
