View 4 RepliesI can not set default sound card for alsa. It detects my sound card and I can play audio with xmms when I config that to use alsa and my intel sound card, but other applications which use default alsa sound card, and also pulse audio, can not play any sound.

I am able to play the default sound in the utility, however, I get no sound when I select the device in Skype as Default Device CA0106. Is there a permission somewhere I am missing, because I noticed when I try to play an internet radio stream using Shockwave Flash, I also have no audio.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm having trouble with my sound on my new Fedora 12 machine. when I first installed F12 sound was working but it appears that I have messed up some settings somewhere and now alsa is no longer recognizing my sound card (integrated into my ASUS M4A79XTD EVO motherboard)

I am having problems getting sound to work. I have pasted my output from AlsaInfo.sh in hopes that someone can assist me. I have been able to fix this with the AlsaCompile scripts for Ubuntu. I am wondering if this is a distro related issue. If not I will gladly send to the alsa project.

I've had these problems before intermittently and it was working until I rebooted recently. I've also attached my yum log if there was something updated that affected it.
I just got the upgrade for the Linux Kernel version 2.6.40-4 on my Fedora 15 x86-64 box today, and the installation completed with no problems. However when I rebooted after doing the upgrade, I noticed that I had no sound. I use an ATI Radeon HD 4350 video card, and the opensource ATI driver, and use the HDMI audio from it for sound, since my monitor has a sound output jack on it. I've booted into the previous kernel (2.6.38.8-35), and sound works fine. I've tried with the new kernel in both KDE (my default desktop environment) and XFCE to get sound, and it does not work in either one. I've tried installing the VLC Phonon Backend instead of the GStreamer Backend, reinstalling Pulseaudio, reinstalling Alsa, modprobing the necessary modules needed for the card, checking all configurations with the available Pulseaudio tools (paprefs, pavumeter, pavucontrol), checked the volumes using alsamixer, and reinstalling the ALSA Pulseaudio plugin. After trying all of these, I can still get no sound out of any application, and I also noticed that Flash video plays at 2-3 times it's normal speed after the upgrade. Again, these problems do not occur on my previous kernel. Did I maybe overlook something, or can anyone else think of something I could try?
View 14 Replies View RelatedMonths ago, I tried to get my notebook's internal modem working, by installing alsa-driver-linuxant-1.0.23.1-1.noarch.rpm and hsfmodem-7.80.02.06x86_64full-1.x86_64.rpm, both from Linuxant. This did not work, but my system was stable and the sound device (Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 03)) worked fine.In the last few days, I upgraded to the latest kernel 2.6.35.12-88.fc14.x86_64. Boot failed due to an inability to build the alsa-driver-linuxant against the kernel source (I have the kernel source in /usr/src/kernels/2.6.35.12-88.fc14.x86_64/). The message in boot.log was:

i am having a problem with skype that i wasn't having before, and afaik skype hasn't been upgraded recently, so something else presumably has changed.
because of driver issues i have to use an external usb audio interface to do voip. this interface is not connected to the pulseaudio server. i am able to connect it to jackd and it works fine for both audio in and out. however it no longer shows up in the list of sound devices available to skype. this used not to be the case. i have tried stopping and restarting skype, as well as unplugging and reattaching the interface. the interface does not show up in pulseaudio manager in the lists of devices.
When I send mail via Evoultion it does seem to send ok but still the following error message comes up: Error while sending message. Failed to append to : Unknown error Appending to local 'Sent' folder instead. Not sure what's up with that but thought I would mention it.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen using Skype, the sound suddenly stops working, both ways (about 4-5 min into the communication). The message "connection failed: connection terminated" is displayed and when I click OK, Pulse Audio closes and Skype freezes. Actually, and I just realized this, the sound suddenly stops working on Firefox as well. (The Alsa plugin in Pulse Audio 'Playback' just disappears). However this occurs after a long period of use. I've just watched about 30 continuous minutes of live soccer through Espn3, before the audio stopped working. No message was displayed though, and just refreshing the page fixed it.
All this makes me think this is some type of Alsa-Pulse Audio problem. I really don't understand well what they are, although I believe Alsa is a driver and Pulse Audio a sound server? Sorry, I started using Linux very recently. I am using Ubuntu-Studio 10.04 and the rt Kernel (2.6.33-29-realtime). Sometimes I use Pulse Audio in Jack and vice-versa, using pactl load-module module-jack-sink and source respectively, but my problem seems to occur even if I unload the modules before using Skype. I believe all this started happening after I started using the rt kernel and/or the module-jack-sink/source.
I have installed xubuntu version 10. My sound card is a Yamaha dS-1S, and seems to be properly configured. Alsa mixer doesn't indicates any error. However, I can't manage to get any sound. I have checked that jacks are correctly plugged.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am working for Fedora 12 installed on my laptop, and skype has worked. I was able to speak, able to listen and everything (besides some installation problems) was working fine.
Then I allowed Fedora to update(or bugfix or enhacement) some items of my system.
Now when I click on the loudspeaker symbol in the panel and open the mixer I see various tabe for sound input and output. Finally a good idea, and I even have a slide for skype!
But it does not work, I don't hear anything from skype (version 2.1.0.47).
I am able to record and playback via arecord/aplay, so in principal it should work. Any ideas what is wrong? Maybe a bug in a bugfix?

After several releases fighting with pulseaudio, F11 finally worked almost OBO, after going to system->preferences->advanced sound configuration and setting all the input volumes to the maximum. But now there's no advanced sound configuration tool, and I just can't find anything to make it work. Skype isn't working, nor is gnome-sound-recorder. I do record some static, but nothing more. By the way, I'm on an Acer Timeline 3810T.

The documentation I found for KDE just said that if I get that error, it means that either the website does not exist or I am not connected to the internet, but I'm quite sure I'm connected to the internet.

I don;t have physical access to the system and it is a server located in Europe. Fedora release 10 (Cambridge) is installed in it.
I recently bought a logitech headset which is working very nice, the thing is that I cannot make it my default device when I plug it in. I edited /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf to make snd-usb-audio the default card but it only works when the computer is turned on with the headset plugged in. A workaround is to plug it and then "alsa force-reload" but I find it very ugly plus it kills all apps using audio and leaves the volume indicator unstable.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI am using Gstreamer for creating one of my video streaming application. My application creates multimedia session and then stream around 200 video sessions (a very processor intensive job).In doing so, the no. of threads created is around 1500 and I have given around 1536 KB as my stack size for each of these threads. I have one Quadcore(intel Xeon) system of around 8 GB of RAM(64 bit) with RHEL 5.5(kernel - 2.6.18-92.el5). After few hours of testing I see that my overall memory(RAM) is eating up. I did checked the memory and I saw that my cache size is growing. So far so good, as I can understand that system does cache instead of leaving some RAM free.
My problem comes, when I see that after almost 20-25 hours of testing, RAM is continuously being eaten up and maximum part of that is going into cache. If I leave the system for few more hours I see whole of my memory is consumed up and now my swap started getting used. If I check the cache now, I clearly see most of RAM is now in form of cache. I still didn�t stop my application and allowed it run for few more hours and after sometime I see that process give segmentation fault while creating the pthread (create_pthread::unknown error 513).I also tried to observe the �core� file of application created in this way , but it doesn�t� show anything.
One thing I must mention that, in �top� I see almost constant values of resident memory, virtual memory and shared memory. There is no increase of memory usage here. So here I can assume that my application is not leaking the memory. I also observed that if I kill my application any time during this, the memory doesn�t go into free pool. Anyone, here can give any pointer for this kind of behavior. Is it can be because of some kernel BUG which is not freeing the memory to application usage.
I finally got the repos enabled and installed skype, but when I run skype I get this error
