Dec 1, 2009I want to set up a printer with the command line only in fedora 12. I have been searching for a few days now. Is their a way to avoid using the system-config-printer gui? I searched through the fedora docs and their seems to be no information available.

When i connect the printer, Debian doesn't recognize my printer as the Photosmart B109 printer for unknown reason. When i go to the site of HP and search for a driver, it directs me to this site:I've downloaded that latest hplip file as a .run file and installed it. My printer is recognized proparly, but when i try to print a colored image, it comes out black/white. Something is not crrect. Does anyone recognize this problem with this type HP printer?

I have tracked the error to the "printer properties on the local host" panel. The problem is that I do not have my printer published. The PPLH panel says to see " server settings". But, it doesn't tell me where those settings are or what needs to be changed.

Jun 27, 2011I've got an Ubuntu Server 11.04 running and the primary use of it is to store backup files using Deja Dup, connecting through SSH using shared key (no passwords) authentication. This works on the LAN and WAN, which is what I want. I also want to set up an HP Officejet 5610 MFD to be shared on the LAN only, for printing and scanning. The server obviously doesn't have a GUI.
I've searched and come up with some near misses, but everywhere I try it seems someone is using a GUI on the system serving the printer. See: [URLs]
What I'd really like would be a post like the following one. It seems to be what I'm looking for, but it is from 2006 using Ubuntu 6.## and that build ran on cupsys rather than cupsd if I read correctly. I haven't found an updated guide/post like the one below.

CentOS 5 Server :: How To Configure Samba (Shared Printer)
Aug 20, 2009How to configure samba, cups, whatever else is necessary to turn centOS into a print server that provides the print driver to any client adding a printer shared from the server? For example, I have a Xerox Phaser 6125n and I was able to configure my server to share the printer for clients on the network, but I still have to have the driver available on each client that uses the printer. I want to be able to put the driver on the server and provide it automatically to any client who installs the printer.
Also, this is not as important but rather just an annoyance, I am having an issue with samba that I can't figure out. I have user shares set up on the server but the first time any user accesses their personal share they need to provide their password. How can I set up user mapping between linux and windows accounts so that authentication is automatic? I've done this in the past with Fedora Core 2, but that was a long time ago and the same doesn't work on centOS.

Aug 3, 2011I'm setting up a netbook for somebody (in another country!) and one of the last hurdles is the printer setup. I only have the netbook and not the printer with me. I know that the printer is a HP PSC 1215 All-In-One Printer but there seems to be a Catch-22 that I need to have the printer connected in order to be able to set this up using the GUI tools. How do I work around this? As a minimum I just want to enable printing, although scanning would be a bonus.

May 16, 2010After struggling with a bad LP cable I have finally proven that the cable, printer and port all work. I booted in to another OS and was able to finally print. Now, I'm trying to get server 10.4 to recognize the printer and then I want to configure CUPs so I can run this machine as a headless print server, among other things.
Apache is running as I managed to get nagios to run and I can pull it up from another PC via a browser.
sshd is running as I'm logged in from another PC via ssh.
Problem number 1 is how do I install a driver for an NEC Superscript 870 printer? As it is lpstat returnes with :
karl@zeus:/etc/cups$ lpstat -t
scheduler is not running
no system default destination
Once I am able to print then I need to print to the server from other hosts on the network.
Fedora Installation :: Can't Add Printer / Enable This?
Jan 28, 2011I am setting up a new machine.
As it came, there was no printing icon under System>Administration.
I added system-config-printer
and that took care of that.
But when I open that, Add printer is grayed out.
I don't have any printers connected to this machine, but I want to setup remote printers. I had no problem doing that wit h Fedora 11 and Fedora 13 on another machine wit h no printers attached. perhaps I'm st ill missing some package>
I added system-config-printers and some other packages I thought might be relevant. I then tried trouble shooting and that reminded me I had to start cups. In addition I had to start samba---it was a windows printer---and I had to configure the firewall to allow samba. I was then able to find the remote windows printer, but I couldn't configure it because it wasn't in the database. After some more fiddling---I think additional HP packages were added---I was able to configure it as the correct printer. It now seems to be working.
Fedora Networking :: System-config-printer Bad Printer Entry?
Dec 26, 2009I have a problem with a bad entry in my system-config-printer on my notebook computer which I think is interfering with my ability to print. I run fedora 10 on several systems in my house. On one desktop, I have a printer hosted which I think I have successfully setup for wireless network sharing (an HP895) using IPP.My problem seems to be a bad entry in my system-config-printer on my notebook computer which seems to stall when I try to print from applications (Firefox for example.) on the notebook. If I open up "Printing", I have 3 printers listed... one of them is for when the printer is attached directly to the notebook, one of them is the working printer description "printer" and the 3d is the bad entry. If I click on the bad entry to try to delete it, I don't have that option, but If I try to look at the "properties" for that entry, system-config-printer stalls (as do other applications when the printing dialog box starts up, and I have to force them to shut down.)
I will attach some screenshots and a copy of my /etc/cups/printers.conf file.How do I get rid of this "bad entry" in the system-config-printers GUI ? It doesn't seem to exist in the printers.conf file.

Fedora Installation :: F15 Broke Proprietary Drivers For Printer
Jun 4, 2011I heard that the new release would work smoothly and decided to install fc15 on 5 computers at once (four 64-bit AMDs running RAID and an old 32-bit Compaq laptop). I now have only 1 of 4 printers working. One was an old and slow but reliable HP6P and the others Samsungs of various ages. I tried the workaround suggested in another thread for the HP6P (using MAKEDEV to recognize the parallel port), but I'm still unable to install the printer--the installation hangs searching for a printer. And Fedora 15 has apparently broken the proprietary Samsung driver.
The only working printer at the moment is a Samsung 2250 (the oldest) which has an open source driver, and that one won't currently print from the internet (it used to under fc14). It's pretty sad when a new release breaks computers whose major function is effectively (or rather ineffectively) a typewriter. I've tried both local and network installations using Gnome, system-config-printer, and the Samsung Configurator, but nothing seems to work. I hope a fix is forthcoming from Red Hat, Samsung, or the readers soon. I need my typewriter.

She absolutely love it and so far I have managed to update Open Office to Open Office 3.0.1, installed Skype and installed Firefox 3.She has been doing her homework and would like to print it off but I can't get my Epson DX8450 to work with it. I installed some drivers and the printer started to print it was doing some strange things like printer two lines of the same single line, missing the top off the letters and putting two line spaces in between each line.
I am all new to this but does anybody advice or even provide step by step instructions on how to install the printer (if they have this model printer themselves).Also how to I remove the drivers that I installed last night that obviously are incompatible?

Now i want to setup the 3 machines to use 1 printer which is connected to one of the Fedora 10 machines, and i want File Sharing to be enabled so each machine can easily view each others shared files and also be able to print when ever needed (ofcourse the machine with the printer will have to be on for the printing process to happen) I've installed Samaba on each Fedora Machine, enabled sharing but i dont seem to be able to view the Windows machine or each other....

Sep 18, 2010we are having new printers. At the moment we over 1000 machines on multiple sites but no print server they are manually added on the machine ( I know don't ask).
Anyway there is no way they would let use a windows server so the only option I have is to use linux however I little unsure if it is capable of doing the job I need it to do. Basically I want to add the printers on the linux server either using samba or ipp (I would assume samba would be best).
The reason i want to do this is when we have to do around the machines I just want to go around the machines and just the map the printer and it brings down the driver and config etc as we want them to duplex. The issue is I been trying to gain information on the internet and getting conflicting information apparently I can add the windows driver onto the server so when I map the printer it brings it down. However some guides state you still have through the whole process of adding the printer and then choosing the driver etc. Which kinda of makes it pointless to do the printer server since I would already have to do this anyway if we don't have one.
I just want to go be able to go around the machines and for example click star run and do something like \192.168.1.1printer01 and then it done kind of thing.
