i recently installed fedora 14 xfce and i have a printer laserjet p1007 hp connected. the printer gets detected but there is an error while installation (i.e when i run hp-setup) it gives an error that some binary drivers missing. i refreshed the package list also. but still the driver does not get installed..

Then I found the printer and add it. But the problem is when I tried to try to print a test page, it shows "job1 submitted".....that's all. No page gets printed. If I try once more, it shows "job2 submitted" but again no results. I cant also see all the submitted jobs.

I already installed hplip and hpijs drivers and connected HP LaserJet 5MP printer to the parallel port of my PC. Set up was by running "system-config-printer", adding device URI=parallel:/dev/lp0, and selecting approriate driver (CUPS+Gutenprint (en) for the printer. However, when I chose to print a test page, nothing came out and the printer window says the printer is not connected. This is even though I can print from Fedora14 installed on the same PC.

View 2 Replies View RelatedInherited an old Laserjet 6P that was working fine XP. No matter which printer driver I use all I get are pages and pages of garbage during the test print. I have tried the hplip, gimp, ljet4 drivers without success. I have tried sending text files from the command line as well (cat /etc/passwd > /dev/lp0) with the same result.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am using gqview as an image viewer (under Debian Lenny). When I use gqview to print files to a HP LaserJet 5P printer, the dithering of graphics is quite coarse (click for view of printout scanned at 300dpi): gqview.jpg
On the other hand, if I use gimp to print it, the output is normal (click for view of printout scanned at 300dpi): gimp.jpg
I have tried changing the CUPS resolution settings for the printer (they are set to grayscale 600dpi), and the resolution setting in gqview (also set to 600dpi), but this doesn't help. Printing to a different printer (HP LaserJet 2605) does not exhibit the same behaviour!
At work I've got a HP LaserJet P1505n printer that is used as network printer. It has an ethernet port and is plugged in directly into the network. Everybody in the office is using Windows and has no problems working with it. After a few hours of google-ing, I also managed to set it up with CUPS as a LPD printer, with some problems: every time I send a document to it, it goes into the "error" state, and I have to press the "green" button for the printer to start printing. Is there a way to work around these errors? I tried to google for these kind of errors, but couldn't find anything useful.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm running Fedora 11 and printing to both an HP Laser Jet 4Plus and HP Office Jet 7130 via a Windows 7 PC. I have a UID/PWD account on the PC that differs from that on the Fedora, also one that is identical UID/PWD to that used in Fedora. This has worked fine until "recently" (noticed it in ~last week or 2). Suddenly I'm being asked repeatedly to authenticate to print, neither account credentials are working. I get the message "Tree connect failed (NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED)" and I get nowhere. I tried delete and reinstall the printers in Fedora, that works OK, can "see" them in setup on the Windows 7 host just fine. But can't get past the repeated authentications ...? I'm guessing something has changed in Fedora updates because this used to work with same Windows 7 PC in prior weeks.

But how can I use the printer from fedora? When I go to Administor>Printers then I just get an empty list, even after pressing 'rescan'. Do I have to change some firewall/samba configuration? If not then where else would I see the printer?

I am using a Netgear WGPS606 print server. (it works fine on Windows 7). I have, from Linux pinged the server (192.168.1.200) and have gotten a response for each string sent but following the usual procedure [System-Administration-Printing then Add (a printer)- Expand Network Printer etc.] The response is that there is no printer found at that address. (the firewall was disabled).

It's being detected as usb://HP/LaserJet P1006 but there is no specific driver for it. I try to use the generic HP LaserJet driver but didn't work. There is no driver for P1005 model, either.

I've been banging my head for two days now trying to get my HP Laserjet 1020 to work. I've gotten the drivers working on the box itself (Opensuse 11.3 x64), but I couldn't get it to print from my laptop (Ubuntu Lucid). Ideally, I'd like to end up with a functional printer which can be used either from the desktop machine (Opensuse) or from the laptop (Ubuntu) through NFS.
After so many attempts at fixing it, I've not made it such that I can't print at all, from either system. I'm considering re-installing Opensuse (or just going back to Kubuntu, which recognizes the printer without a hitch). But before I do so, I figured I'd ask here.
Here are my issues, and attempts at solution:
1) I tried adding the printer both through CUPS, through YAST and through hp-setup, using the hpijs driver. Each time the printer is recognized, but a test page won't print.
2) I tried building the foo2zjs driver, as outlined here: HowTo Install a HP LaserJet 1020 printer in Suse 10.x, 11.x It came up with dependency problems repeatedly on the last step (sudo make install-hotplug) . I gave up when it told me that it was conflicting with an installed package (system-config-printer-udev) which was not installed.
3) Perhaps related problem: on the CUPS web interface, I get a "forbidden" message when I try to change the options on the CUPS server to allow remote access.
Note that:
a) I've already added myself to the lp group.
b) I changed the permissions (+rx) on the /dev/lp0 to allow myself access
c) I'm able to get to the CUPS page on the client machine, so the port 631 (I think) must be open. I say "I think," because there's no option to allow CUPS in YAST firewall settings, for some reason.
I've been following guides here and there, but I'm afraid that I've borked my cupsd.conf file through all the edits. Here it is:

hplip is installed (3.11.5), but it does not start the printer queue. If I click to start the queue, it seems to start, but no printing jobs are sent to the printer.

I have a FC11 box, with an HP prineter attached. I trying to print from my laptops after I have setup samba and shared the printer , It was working fine when I was installing FC4 and FC5. I am not sure what is missing. when I tried to print from the XP box I got "Test pge failed to print" error.

I am not using Samba. The setup went fine, but I am not able to print to it. There are other clients (all Windows) that are printing fine to this print server. The following is what I see in the /var/log/cups/error_log:
[Job 3] recoverable: Unable to connect to printer; will retry in 30 seconds...
I am using DHCP in this LAN. Ping is working fine (client's hosts file updated with the print server's ip address.). This looks like a networking issue.
My printer had been working in 10.04 for a couple months. It still does work when I boot from a 9.04 live CD, so I know it really is "connected" hardware-wise.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have installed an HP LaserJet 4250 using the hp 4250 postscript driver. The printing works but when I click on File->Print on any application (Open Office or Document Viewer), the message "Getting printer information" is beside the printer name and the print button is disabled. After 5 or so seconds, the print button becomes enabled and I can print. This happens every time but did not when I first installed the printer. I would prefer to determine the cause rather than delete and re-install the printer.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm having trouble with printing a PDF that is in landscape mode. When I tell Okular or Adoble Reader to print a document in landscape mode, the text is Illegible. If I tell it to print as portrait mode, then I can read the text but the end is cut off and there is no way for me to tell Okular or Adobe Reader what the margins are. That option was grayed out.
I'm having another problem: When I cancel the job from the CUPS interface, it says it canceled the job but the printer keeps going and finishes whether I want it to or not. With 11.2, I was able to have it set up so that when I told it to stop the printer, it did so right away. Why can't I get the printer to stop in the middle of a job if I see something wrong with it so that I don't have to waste ink?
How do I stop a printer from printing? Here's what happened- I started to print some PDF stuff and then changed my mind. The printing job hadn't finished so I just clicked on the printer icon and selected QUIT. Well, of course that didn't work so I just turned the printer off......same result- when I turn the printer back on it keeps on printing the same stuff. How do I stop the printer from continuing and delete all print jobs?

I have added my user name to the lp and lpadmin groups. Trying the above as 'sudo' results in the same result. The only thing I've noticed is that when printing something from OpenOffice, in the document print status I get the message 'Processing - not connected?', although printing still works.
