I have a FC11 box, with an HP prineter attached. I trying to print from my laptops after I have setup samba and shared the printer , It was working fine when I was installing FC4 and FC5. I am not sure what is missing. when I tried to print from the XP box I got "Test pge failed to print" error.
View 9 RepliesI've recently installed F15 LXDE RC from the livecd and connected my USB Brother All-In-One MFC-5440cn printer. After following the Brother installation page, the Cups & LPR drivers are installed but when I'm in the cups page (http://localhost:631/admin), the printer will not print a test page or print from any application. The LCD panel on the printer does show 'receiving data' but nothing comes out. The last version of Fedora I had running was F13 and the same printer worked fine.
Are there any other printer drivers I need to install besides the Brothers? The printer does show up in the Print Manager but nothing prints. I did have this same type of issue with Mageia Beta 1 and ended up installing a2ps, which wasn't included in the original print drivers, and it is now printing. So I had to install a2ps with F15 but still no print output. Something must have changed with the recent distros causing this. After looking at the output of dmesg I see this:

Any idea why it's failing to connect to Cups or any idea how to find out? Is it possible to have too many USB devices connected? I'm using a 4 port usb hub in use and also using a usb mouse/keyboard connected.
I recently built a server from an old box using Ubuntu Server 9.10. This is my first server and I am very new to the server world.I have an Epson Stylus NX400 connected via USB. I have managed to configure it to the point where I can see the printer listed on my client laptop and can print a test page. However, I cannot print anything else. When I access the job history through the CUPS adminI can see that the print jobs were recognized and marked as complete, even though the printer never physically engaged.

If they are not used very often, they dry out, the print heads get packed up, it's an expensive mess to deal with when times comes to run off some prints. The printers are physically connected to a Windows machine to which my Ubuntu computer is networked.It would be helpful if there was a utility that could initiate a test page print job on the machines, which could be scheduled to run once a week or so. It is not a real problem that printer want print, it just want print 10 or 15 or 20 pages from tractor bin. I get message: '/usr/lib/cups/filter/rastertoepson failed. It stopped printing after every page, send message, I have to cancel error message, then I can print again. All this is happened if I try to print one by one page from front of printer, I just have to print page with command <ctrl>P.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just installed openSUSE 11.4 on my 2 home machines. My home network lies behind a nat router but I still use the external zone setting for my firewalls. In the past to enable network printing between the two computers I opened TCP and UDP port 631. Yast would then see the remote printer, set it up and all was good. This time Yast sees and sets up the remote printer as usual. When I print the test page nothing happens. Checking the cups admin page at localhost:631 on the host machine shows the printer is set up to share but nothing is in the print que. Printing works just fine on the host computer.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI know my driver works and that cups is up and running, because I can print off test pages to my heart's content, but I can't get any actual documents printed. I'm connected over the network at work to a Japanese NEC MultiWriter 3650n (it seems to be Japanese-only---I could find on drivers was in Japanese). It shows up in System=>Administration=>Printing. I set it as the default printer, and, as I said, it prints off test pages without a hitch. But whenever I open, say, a PDF and try to print it, the document appears to get sent, but never actually prints, and never shows up in the print queue (while the completed test pages do).

I used the PPD file provided by the driver recommended in linuxprinting.org.But when I try to print the test page (or anything else), nothing is printed. According to the diagnostics, the printer status is "Processing page 1...", but it won't go beyond that.I've already tested it, it's fine. But won't work in ubuntu. Don't know what's going on.

View 2 Replies View RelatedOur one remaining problem seems to be printing. She has an HP OfficeJet 6500 USB printer. We have the computer conntected. Strangely, when I boot from the CD the printer shows up as installed even though I did nothing to install it. After having submitted a print job it shows the printer status as "idle" and the print queue is empty. I tried deleting that printer and re-installing. The installation went as one would expect. However the results are the same. I'm beginning to think that somehow the problem is related to the fact that we are operating from the live CD. getting this thing to print from the live CD.

After installing libre3.3.2 using the Slackbuild scripts, I found that it displayed fonts correctly, but doesn't print the same font on the printer. The output of the printer should be Arial, but is instead some elongated, overlapping mess.
The same Slackware package installed on SW13.1 prints normally. (Same computer, different partition)
Spadmin used to control the printer fonts, but apparently not anymore.

I've recently decided to migrate the infrastructure in my workplace from ubuntu to fedora, every thing except the printers went perfectly. When I try to print as an user It just throws an generic error and stops, as a root it doesn't even show the error.

My PDF's won't print anymore. They used too, but now all I get is a message that says, "document failed to print". Office docs print fine on the Canon Pixma i4300. I installed the CUPS PDF driver but it doesn't help. Acrobat won't initialize reliably in Firefox 5.0.

I've restarted cups, to no avail.This is a Networked Printer, but i have little doubt that can be ruled out as an issue.If i want to print an Image or Plain Text file, i get this error; if i print with OpenOffice, i do NOT get this error and it prints fine.I have also gotten a similar error, like "permission denied" or something, but i cannot recall exactly what it said, and cannot seem to recreate it at the moment.I have been getting this for quite some time now (months), but never found out why. The problem is when I send a page to print it takes 5 minutes before it prints. Does anyone know if this is normal or if there is a fix. I have the printer connected with a USB cable.

I managed to print through CUPS to that printer but if I use GS with -sDEVICE=cups nothing happens, nothing is printed, CUPS logs remain unchanged... I also found command using smbclient (gs ... | smbclient //machine/printer -U user ... -c 'printmode graphics;print-') but that one fails with "session setup failed: NT_STATUS_REQUEST_NOT_ACCEPTED" Here is why I need it, so maybe you know better way: We need to print thousands of PDF files in one print job (to prevent anybody else to send something else in while we are printing this). I was trying to develop small C program using GS API to achieve this but somehow I fail on something as trivial as print something on shared network printer.

I'm giving up in ever hoping that I'll get printing working with windows 7 with the strange comments I've found on the net. Basically I have a samsung ML2240 printer shared on the network, everything can print to it fine except for my windows 7 laptop. It's shared via Samba.

I'm running slack64-current.I setup samba to share a printer on my home network. I can print to the printer locally.The printer is visible on the network. However when I try to print anything on the printer via samba (or cups for that matter) from either the local machine or the remote machine, everything acts as if the job went through, but nothing happens. I'm sure I've seen this before on another slack machine that is currently unavailable, but I can't remember what the answer was, and I'm trying to be more precise with this setup so that I actually learn something.

But the issue I am dealing with is that it will print a full page and then print a blank page..then a full page..then a blank page. Actually they aren't completely blank..it shows half of "2 of 6" or whatever page it is on. Like it cuts that in half and prints the 2nd half of "2 of 6" onto a separate new page.

Printer 'Deskjet-1000-J110-series' requires the 'foomatic-rip-hplip' program but it is not currently installed. I found something that is the 'foomatic-rip-hplip', but what the heck do I do with it?
Interesting problem: For the first time with Xubuntu 10.10 64bit, I am finding certain applications print corrupt. A varying amount of letters / numbers either get substituted/print a blank space/ print a box etc etc. This corruption seems to happen from a Pdf ( evince ) or Spreadheet ( Gnumeric ) Opening the same Pdf on another machine (ubuntu 10.10 32bit) prints perfectly. Opening the same .xls file on the original computer but using OOo Calc prints perfectly.
I guess I have ruled out any problems with the printer itself or the network JetDirect box. I have re-installed CUPS and evince and upgraded to the latest version of HPLIP but the problem appears unchanged.
I have set everything in my printer settings to "US Letter" both via system-config-printer, and in the localization settings for KDE "System Settings". However everytime I attempt to print the printer will say that it's A4 and asks to load paper. I have searched everywhere for this default and I cannot find it in KDE. While in Gnome, all works as expected with printing (even when printing from KDE applications). Does anyone know how to change the default from A4 to US Letter?
