Fedora :: Printing Via SMB To Windows 7 Printer?

Dec 8, 2009

I'm running Fedora 11 and printing to both an HP Laser Jet 4Plus and HP Office Jet 7130 via a Windows 7 PC. I have a UID/PWD account on the PC that differs from that on the Fedora, also one that is identical UID/PWD to that used in Fedora. This has worked fine until "recently" (noticed it in ~last week or 2). Suddenly I'm being asked repeatedly to authenticate to print, neither account credentials are working. I get the message "Tree connect failed (NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED)" and I get nowhere. I tried delete and reinstall the printers in Fedora, that works OK, can "see" them in setup on the Windows 7 host just fine. But can't get past the repeated authentications ...? I'm guessing something has changed in Fedora updates because this used to work with same Windows 7 PC in prior weeks.

Fedora Networking :: Printing From A Windows Printer?

Oct 15, 2009

I have a windows machine on my lan with a printer attached. I have samba running on my F11 laptop and I can use it to access shared files on the windows machine. But how can I use the printer from fedora? When I go to Administor>Printers then I just get an empty list, even after pressing 'rescan'. Do I have to change some firewall/samba configuration? If not then where else would I see the printer?

The guide i followed is: Yet another Linux to Windows printing tip -- Debian Admin The printer model is a dell 2330d laser printer, it is not in cups, so i added the ppd file i got off the dell support site. I am aware that there is a native suse driver, but i want to print to the windows printer. If possible I would like to know how to do this via command line instead of the GUI.

Ubuntu :: Windows Shared Printer Stalls When Printing?

Jun 30, 2010

I am currently running Lucid on my system and can't seem to get my printer on a Windows XP computer to print documents sent from my Ubuntu computer. I can see the Windows XP computer in Nautilus under Network and can even access the shared files on the Windows computer with no problem. I have been able to install the Windows shared printer on my Ubuntu computer using System>Administration>Printing>Add>Network Printer>"Windows Printer via Samba" without any error messages. The problem is that whenever I send a printing job to the shared printer, the printer acts like it is going to start printing then automatically stops just right before the paper is going to be fed. I have memorized the noises my printer makes right before the paper gets fed. That is how I know it stalls right before the paper is about to be fed.

When I check the print queue on my Windows computer, its status is "printing", but it never does. I have tried this with two different HP printers (Deskjet 3940 & PSC 1410), and it is the exact same problem on both.

General :: Set Printer Options When Printing From System To Windows?

Jun 17, 2011

We want to print PDFs from a Linux server to a HP LaserJet 1320 PCL 6 which is attached to a Windows print server.

The command we use is
lp -d LaserJet sicl_rcpdebtnt_5.pdf

Problem is, the printout comes with the top 10% of the page not printed. i.e. the printing starts from about 10% of the PDF. The header and top information is not printed.

We tried the scaling option:
lp -o scaling=75 -d LaserJet sicl_rcpdebtnt_5.pdf

But that also has no effect. Only the characters become smaller but still the same problem is there.

What can we do to print the entire PDF in ONE page. When we open the PDF in Windows and print it we have to say Fit to printer margins for the printer's page scaling property.

How to set this in command line Linux?

CentOS 5 Networking :: Use VPN To Do Remote Printing On Windows Or Network Printer?

Feb 12, 2011

I have a virtual Linux box with a static IP in the cloud.

I have remote sites that have networked PCs that normally act as terminals but also have more than one printer on the Windows Network.

I would like software on the Window's machine to access the known IP address of the server and advertise the printers on the network so they can be printed to with lpr or cups. I don't have a problem manually setting up the printers on Centos if that is necessary. (But I need to know how to do that as well).

I need to know if I can setup a VPN on Windows without it stopping regular internet traffic and how to do it.

I need to know all the steps (what to install, what to issue commands for) to make this happen without using a GUI if possible and if the GUI is easier I need to know which GUI to install.

I also do not have a problem with using a VPN router at the client side if that makes it any easier. Like a Cisco RV120W.

SUSE / Novell :: Access Denied When Printing From Windows Machine To Shared Printer

Nov 25, 2008

I have a OpenSUSE 11 machine set up as a domain controller. I have set my printer up to be shared to Windows machines logging into the domain. I was able to install the printer to my Windows machines. When you go to the printers folder in Windows, it shows the printer but says "access denied" instead of the usual "ready". If I print to the shared printer the job will go through. I am thinking it is an authentication issue because if I log into Windows machine as "root" and let it build a profile, the printer doesn't show the "access denied" message. How do I allow other users to have access to the printer?

Fedora :: Printing With F12 - Printer Stops After Generic Error

I've recently decided to migrate the infrastructure in my workplace from ubuntu to fedora, every thing except the printers went perfectly. When I try to print as an user It just throws an generic error and stops, as a root it doesn't even show the error.

This is the debug log:
Code:
D [28/Apr/2010:04:22:03 +0200] cupsdSetBusyState: Dirty files
D [28/Apr/2010:04:22:03 +0200] cupsdReadClient: 12 POST / HTTP/1.1

D [28/Apr/2010:04:22:03 +0200] Get-Jobs ipp://localhost/printers/ .....

It worked fine in debian and ubuntu, so we can assume that the drivers are ok, any ideas?

Fedora Hardware :: Fedora 12 - Print From Windows Printing Server

Apr 29, 2010

I have installed Fedora 12 with latest updates. My problem is printing from Winstar Networking USB 2.0 Server (WS-NSU62P). This device is attached with LAN cable to Windows XP machine. HP LaserJet 2200d is connected on WS-NSU62P with USB cable. This printer works fine with Windows clients (when you add printer with standard procudure for WinXP OS). Before adding the printer I have to install some drivers witch i found on install cd. I didn't found any drivers for Linux. Specification has info about supported protocol on WS-NSU62P (Network Protocol IPX, TCP/IP, NETBUEI, APPLETALK, LPR, smb (Over IP)

How to set my Printer configuration in Fedora 12 to enable printing from HP LaserJet 2200d connected on Winstar Networking USB 2.0 Server (WS-NSU62P)?

OpenSUSE :: Printing PDF's And Stopping The Printer?

Jun 4, 2011

I'm having trouble with printing a PDF that is in landscape mode. When I tell Okular or Adoble Reader to print a document in landscape mode, the text is Illegible. If I tell it to print as portrait mode, then I can read the text but the end is cut off and there is no way for me to tell Okular or Adobe Reader what the margins are. That option was grayed out.

I'm having another problem: When I cancel the job from the CUPS interface, it says it canceled the job but the printer keeps going and finishes whether I want it to or not. With 11.2, I was able to have it set up so that when I told it to stop the printer, it did so right away. Why can't I get the printer to stop in the middle of a job if I see something wrong with it so that I don't have to waste ink?

Debian Configuration :: No Printing From LPR - Unknown Printer

Oct 19, 2010

I have installed an HP LaserJet 2200 network printer using CUPS successfully and can print test pages and stuff from OpenOffice, Evince etc. But no luck printing from lpr. Using lpstat seems to suggest all is well:

$ lpstat -t
scheduler is running
system default destination: HP-LaserJet-2200
device for HP-LaserJet-2200: socket://192.168.10.42:9100
HP-LaserJet-2200 accepting requests since Tue 19 Oct 2010 14:01:50 NZDT
printer HP-LaserJet-2200 is idle. Enabled since Tue 19 Oct 2010 14:01:50 NZDT
Ready to print.

If I now try to print 'test.txt' using:
$ lpr test.txt
nothing happens. Try calling the printer by name:
$ lpr -P HP-LaserJet-2200 test.txt
lpr: HP-LaserJet-2200: unknown printer

I have added my user name to the lp and lpadmin groups. Trying the above as 'sudo' results in the same result. The only thing I've noticed is that when printing something from OpenOffice, in the document print status I get the message 'Processing - not connected?', although printing still works.

OpenSUSE :: Cannot Find Resume Printer/printing?

Last week I had a paper jam in the printer. This has been cleared and as far as I know the printer is now fine. However the printer will not print. In url, it says printing has been paused, but I cannot find resume printer/printing anywhere.

I have tried Google, but the instructions do not appear to match where I would find 'resume printer'.I am able to provide further information.

Ubuntu :: Karmic 9.10 And Printing To XP Shared Printer?

Feb 17, 2010

I have a brand new Canon MF4350d printer/copier/fax/scanner installed and shared on XP that I can't get working on Ubuntu!

XP prints test pages fine. Ubuntu sees the XP shared printer, it sends print jobs, and the XP machine even receives the print jobs (I can see them "spooling" in the XP print manager) but then nothing happens. The job leaves Ubuntu showing 150k but then shows 50 bytes when received in XP before disappearing from the queue.

How I got to where I am...

There was no native driver in Ubuntu for the printer, so I downloaded Canon linux drivers source and compiled (including make install) based on some other threads I've found such as this one.

Compiling left me with PPD files that seem to be specific to the MF4350, although their names show MF4350z not MF4350d. I'm not sure why there were three different files with slightly different names (CNCUPSMF4350ZJ.ppd, CNCUPSMF4350ZK.ppd, and CNCUPSMF4350ZS.ppd).

I added the printer manually using the Ubuntu printer browser setup (Samba) and selected the .PPD files manually. I've tried all three different .PPD files to no avail.

I've toggled bi-directional comm. and tried different print drivers on XP. Nothing's worked yet.

i've updated from 4.5 to 4.6 with backports and nothing is happening on there either.

im running maverick amd64 and using the i386 drivers (with dpkg -i --force-all) which are still recognized even under kde.

p.s.: the printer normally runs as wireless standalone (no samba/cups involvment whatsoever)

General :: CUPS Printing To Win 7 Shared Printer?

I'm running Red Hat Linux and CUPS 1.2.4. I can print a test page to a Win 7 shared printer ok. However, when I issue the lpr command from a user or root, it won't print. The CUPS message is "Remote host did not accept data file (1)" and the job just hangs till I cancel it. The only thing I can tell that is different is that when the test page from CUPS is generated, it uses user "guest". When I try to print it using the lpr command, the user is "eddie" or "root". I tried adding a user account named "eddie" to the Win 7 box, I can print successfully from both CUPS and users on several other Win XP boxes.

Ubuntu Networking :: Printing To Win7 Shared Printer?

Sep 5, 2010

I apologize if I'm a little wordy. I'll give the problem, then a detailed list of my setup (to help troubleshoot). Problem: I can't print from Ubuntu 10.4 on my Win7 shared printer. I also can't connect to the Win7 computer sharing the printer (probably a related problem).

Error Message:

1.) I click on Places, Network, Windows Network. I get an error that says "Unable to mount location, Failed to retrieve share list from server."

2.) I click on System, Administration, Printing, Add, Printer, Network Printer, Windows Printer via SAMBA, Browse..., and I get this error "No Print Shares, There were no print shares found. Please check that the Samba service is marked as trusted in your firewall configuration. To do this select System->Administration->Firewall from the main menu."

Network Configuration: I have a wireless/wired network (using a router) where the Ubuntu machine connects wirelessly and the Win7 machine connects wired. The Win7 machine is on a Win7 homegroup and custom named "workgroup". There is a username/password to log into the Win7 Machine. My other Win7 laptop connects just fine to the Win7 desktop's shared printer (and network drives). I know it isn't a issue of it not working (at least with other Win7 machines)

Problem: I'm assuming there is probably a setting in Win7 that needs adjusting (although I've looked at about everything I can find). I also don't know much about Ubuntu so it could very well be something I need to setup in Ubuntu. I checked already to make sure that SAMBA and the smbfs plugin is installed.

Ubuntu :: Win7 Not Printing To Network Printer But Vista Will?

Jan 9, 2011

I have a HP c4100 series printer connected to my Ubuntu computer. This computer prints just fine. I also have a Windows Vista computer that's connected to the Ubuntu HP via CUPS (by installing network printer with path of http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:631/printers/printername). This computer also prints just fine. My problem is I just got a new Windows 7 laptop, and connected it to the HP via CUPS the same way as the Vista machine. It installed fine. However the Win7 Laptop will not print. When I try to print, it acts like it is going to print, but never gives an error and the file never makes it into the printer queue (on either the win7 or ubuntu machines, i have tried printing with both queues open to see what happens).

Things I have already changed:
On the Ubuntu machine:Changed all the printer settings on printer to allow any and all connections including printing from the internet.
Edited the /etc/samba/smb.conf to allow CUPS printing and allow guest access
On the Win7 machine:Fixed my LAN security settings (disabled require 128bit encryption, send LM and NTLM responses)

Reinstalled printer several times. I have googled this issue almost every day for a month and tried every setting that I have came across (changed them back if it didn't help). So far nothing has worked for me, and this is my last ditch effort to get this printer working. Does anyone know why I can not print from my Windows 7 machine to a printer connected to my Ubuntu machine? Especially when I CAN print from the UBUNTU and Vista machines.
