Ubuntu :: HP LaserJet 1000 Not Printing On Lucid?

Aug 17, 2010

I'm converting my coworker to Linux (who loves it) and I've gotten everything working but this %$#@ printer! I've tried the various solutions posted on these forums (over the past 4 or 5 years). But none of them seem to work.Has anyone solved this problem with Lucid (10.04)? Are there some new steps that pertain to 10.04?

Hardware :: LaserJet 6P Printing Pages Of Garbage

Nov 2, 2009

Inherited an old Laserjet 6P that was working fine XP. No matter which printer driver I use all I get are pages and pages of garbage during the test print. I have tried the hplip, gimp, ljet4 drivers without success. I have tried sending text files from the command line as well (cat /etc/passwd > /dev/lp0) with the same result.

Fedora 11 64
cups 1.4

Anyone using this printer with cups 1.4? Any ideas which driver to use?

Software :: Gqview Printing To HP LaserJet 5P Gives Coarse Dithering

Oct 20, 2009

I am using gqview as an image viewer (under Debian Lenny). When I use gqview to print files to a HP LaserJet 5P printer, the dithering of graphics is quite coarse (click for view of printout scanned at 300dpi): gqview.jpg

On the other hand, if I use gimp to print it, the output is normal (click for view of printout scanned at 300dpi): gimp.jpg

I have tried changing the CUPS resolution settings for the printer (they are set to grayscale 600dpi), and the resolution setting in gqview (also set to 600dpi), but this doesn't help. Printing to a different printer (HP LaserJet 2605) does not exhibit the same behaviour!

Hardware :: CUPS And HP LaserJet P1505n - Green Button Press Required For Printing

Feb 21, 2011

At work I've got a HP LaserJet P1505n printer that is used as network printer. It has an ethernet port and is plugged in directly into the network. Everybody in the office is using Windows and has no problems working with it. After a few hours of google-ing, I also managed to set it up with CUPS as a LPD printer, with some problems: every time I send a document to it, it goes into the "error" state, and I have to press the "green" button for the printer to start printing. Is there a way to work around these errors? I tried to google for these kind of errors, but couldn't find anything useful.

I have a router that is 1000 Base T and two computers each with ethernet cards that support 1000 Base T. All are equipped with Cat 5e cable. Before I had a router that only went up to 100 Base T and I would setup one box with linux running proftpd. On the other box,I would use win xp pro and use firefox to ftp into the other box and download a file. Download speeds went up to 11.2 MB/sec. Now when I switched routers, I expected something like 120 MB/sec but I'm only getting 5.3 MB/sec. What do I need to change?

Ubuntu :: Printing With Exact Size Photos And With Poor Auto Colour Printing But The Situation Remains Unchanged

May 31, 2010

I expected more from ubuntu 10.4 with regards to printing with exact size photos and with poor auto colour printing but the situation remains unchanged! for instance .. the photo size configurations for ubuntu/fspot/gimp and others are not compatible with my printers (HP and Brother) .. here in Europe a typical standard size photo (10x15inches or 150x100mm are not even on the Ubuntu listing? I have tried all listed possibilities including "custom" (which does not seem to ever work correctly?)and the result at best is photos with uneven boarders or at worse my printer goes a bit crazy with much wasted photo paper and expensive ink ...even photos selected for "no boarders" still produces photos with the self same uneven boarders.

I have tried pretty much everything over time following advice in this forum and including using HPlip and updating drivers required for my Brother printer but the root problem seemingly lies with the Ubunto photo size setup listing. Working with Ubuntu over the years I have found that it can do pretty much everything that Windows can do except for this dam ongoing photo quality and configuration problem.

Ubuntu Networking :: WPA Wireless On Eee PC 1000?

I am having trouble establishing a connection with my WPA wireless network at home. Other laptops at home can connect to this network and even the Eee PC can join free wifi networks. The problem seems to be only with WPA networks. When I enter the password for the WPA network, it tries to connect for a while and then shows me the password dialog box again. I don't get any IP during this time, its always I reinstalled my Ubuntu netbook remix but that didn't help. This problem was occurring in the standard Ubuntu 10.04 too.

Ubuntu :: HP Laserjet Doesn't Work With 10.04?

Jul 7, 2010

Is anyone else having problems with HP LaserJets and Ubuntu 10.04? I have a HP LaserJet 3015 and am running a dual boot with Windows 7.

Printer is automatically detected and works fine on: Windows 7, Windows XP, LinuxMint, and older versions of Ubuntu.

But when I'm running Ubuntu 10.04, when I try to print it just adds the job to the print queue and it never prints. After awhile I get a message saying that Ubuntu is unable to communicate with my printer. (or something to that effect). I can't even print a test page.

I have tried installing HPLIP following the directions given, but get the same behavior (can't communicate with the printer). I have tried unplugging the power cord and usb cable and plugging them back in (as per the directions I am following). But still not communicating.

Ubuntu Networking :: Eee Pc 1000 Wireless Not Working?

Feb 5, 2010

I am trying to get the RT2860 card in an Eee PC 1000 to work. I have tried Ubuntu 8.04 and 9.10, all the "fixes" below I can find on the web but nothing seems to work.

[URL] I downloaded the source code from Ralink and using module-assistant followed the instructions.

I can see the wireless network, it tries to connect but just keeps asking for the security key. I have tried WEP, WPA and no security at all but still no go. All works fine if wired. The F2 toggle seems to work OK, the WLAN is switched on in the BIOS. The "iwconfig" command shows the RT2860 in Ubuntu 9.10 but not in Ubuntu 8.04.

Ubuntu :: Installation - Getting Laserjet 2100 To Connect ?

Mar 15, 2011

I'm trying to connect Ubuntu (wubi installation on Windows) to an HP LaserJet 2100M printer via a USB cable which worked on Vista (I'm migrating away from Vista into Ubuntu).

System > Administration > Printing..I could not see or add any printer.

I searched around and followed these instructions ..

How to Install HP Printer Driver onto Ubuntu 10.10

I downloaded hplip-3.11.1.run but in following installation instructions I think I may have needlessly removed a previously installed hplip driver ..3.10.6 .. and various dependencies were loaded with these errors ..

Now when I go to System > Administration > Printing

In troubleshooting there is no connection to CUPS server. The "Add" button is no longer green as before I started dabbling. No discovered printers.

How do I start again to get HP LaserJet 2100M connected (USB cable) .. and printing?

Ubuntu Networking :: 10.10 + Eee Pc 1000 After Sleep Wireless Turns Off

Oct 31, 2010

I use ubuntu netbook for an eee pc 1000h because windows is underpowered. I got it working perfectly in 10.04. I upgraded to 10.10 thinking, if they got it right with 10.04 then surely 10.10 should be fine. All function keys except wireless work.

1. After sleep, wireless turns off. Have to restart and re-enable in bios.
2. If I disable and the re-enable wireless networking it tries to connect but never does resulting in a reboot needed. Checking bios wireless is enabled and connects perfectly on reboot.

Just don't close the lid and sleep because you need a restart. Why would 10.04 be easy and the new version fail? I am windows user and linux does not do this kind of thing normally. MS screws things up with upgrades not linux surely.

Ubuntu :: Print To LaserJet Shared By Vista Machine?

Nov 9, 2010

My LaserJet is connected to an old desktop machine that has it shared. The configuration on that desktop is correct, since I have been printing through it from other Windows machines for a long time (and it still works now).

I recently started dual-booting Ubuntu 10.10 on my otherwise Windows laptop, and I've gotten everything basically working how I like it, except that I can't get connected to that printer.

The Vista machine is at IP address, and the printer is shared as LaserJet. It's set up with workgroup MSHOME.

When I go to add a printer in Ubuntu, I click the Browse button under "SMB Printer," and I see the MSHOME workgroup, but when I try to expand it, there's nothing inside.

If I try to type in the address directly (smb://, the Verify button tells me "Print Share Inaccessible, Connection timed out." Note that I can ping fine. I can continue through the rest of the wizard, but I obviously can't print anything out after I finish the setup, since the connection is failing for some reason.

There is no username or password required to see the shared printer.

Any idea what could be going on here? I'm kind of at wit's end here, and I'd love to be able to ditch Windows--with the obvious exception of Starcraft II, of course

Ubuntu Installation :: HP LaserJet 3300 Scanner Not Found?

I've got an HP LaserJet 3300 all-in-one that I can't seem to get working as a scanner.Printing and copying work fine, but not the scanner function. I'm running kubuntu 10.04, but my guess is that kubuntu vs. ubuntu doesn't matter here.I'm using an IEEE-to-usb cable to connect the device to my box. When I first plug it in, cups recognizes it, and I see a popup in the lower right of my screen entitled "printer applet" and saying configuring new printer". Then it says "hp-laserjet-3300-3310-3320 is ready for printing". After this, printing works fine. But no scanning. lsusb doesn't see the device:
