I am also new to ubuntu but have manage so far,except for my tv-card. Seems like Metv and kaffeine cant see the tv-card ?! I have a asus mycinema-p7131 hybrid,does someone have info on installing this ? except for this i think ubuntu 10 is great.

However, I don't want a program that automatically changes performnce modes each time I go to AC or battery power (Jupiter). Jupiter also causes lag when I suspend the EEEPC pr when I plug in the AC adapter. I pretty often work on battery when I'm at home and I don't need powersavings then. I want a way to be able to turn on the power saving mode (I've heart it does more then just undercloaking the processor) whenever I want, but I don't want those modes to be changed automatically.

I am trying to get the Asus "My Cinema-U3100 Mini plus" DVB-T USB stick to work on my lucid 32bit with 2.6.32-27 kernel - with no great success so far. And this despite searching through forums and following the instructions given on [URL].

My knowledge is limited and I have no idea why I am getting all these warnings and finally the error message. Also, is there a way to tell when (or if at all) driver support for this device will be implemented in the Linux kernel?
I installed mythbuntu 9.10 this week on some old hardware, I had a Hauppauge 500MCE PVR in and made it work fairly easy. I'm used to gentoo
However, I want to record HD signal, so I plugged in a Eyetv hybrid and followed this guide url.
I extracted the driver, put it in into /lib/firmware, modprobed em28xx, rebooted. When I plug in the device, it is not recognised. I tried both usb ports. The ID is "0fd9:0018", which is somewhat different from similar hardware e.g. Hauppauge wintv-hvr-950 (ID 2040:6513 url.
I think the hardware has been updated, hope someone knows how to crack this one

1) does teletext work in digital TV ?
- Do teletext pages appear immediately after page numbers entering or
- must you wait every time because of counter rewinding ?

Since Gnome is a full desktop environment and Openbox is only a Window Manager.
Use the Gnome DE and have Openbox WM, instead of Metacity or Compiz? (with Ob Config & Menu included)
I know it won't be near as light as a straight Openbox, but it would add Ob convenience to Gnome DE. What do you think? Work-arounds?
On a small partition I have LinuxMintDebian 'testing' (Gnome) x64 ... can I 'add' Openbox? Not replacing anything except the WM?
On both Karmic Koala as well as Lucid Lynx, I am having massive problems getting my nvidia card to register properly. I am on an Acer Aspire 5953 laptop pc with a Gt130m discrete GPU in a hybrid installation with an onboard GPU.Freshly installed, both 9.10 and 10.04 runs smoothly, I can enable desktop effects, I can even see the screensavers that run openGL - although they run laggily in fullscreen, since they're obviously using the onboard, and very weak, GPU.The problem however, appears whenever I install the suggested NVIDIA drivers that Ubuntu finds for me - after doing this, I am asked to reboot the system and on both systems, I am treated to a black screen, instead of a login-screen. The only way to get the system up and running again, I have found, is boot in fail safe mode and edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf, erasing everything. This lets me boot back up in a regular mode.
When I check the logs, both the onboard GPU and the gt130m GPU is located, the onboard as PCI:0:0:2:0 and the nvidia gt130m discrete gpu as PCI:0:1:0:0 - I have tried adding BusID: ("PCI:0:1:0:0") to the xorg.conf, too, to no avail. I am continously treated to the black screen (a flicker at most) and the logs always tells me that no xserver could find no screens.So far, I have only been installing Ubuntu inside windows - I am hesitating to install on a fresh drive, since I am afraid of the nvidia black screen putting me in a position where I can't access the system. Is it possible that the fact that I install ubuntu inside windows might somehow affect Linux's capability of accessing my discrete GPU?

She runs XP SP3 on her main drive, a 16 GB SD card.
She has available another 16 GB SD card, which shows up as a drive under �My Computer�.
I would like to install Ubuntu on the spare card, keeping Windows on the main drive card.
I am using dell XPS with hybrid graphics. Intel integrated graphics card and NVIDIA. I have installed both Ubuntu, Windows 7 and opensuse in it. Ubuntu and Windows comes up. But Opensuse after showing some boot messages goes blank and nothing comes up. I am using OpenSuse 11.4.

I would like to know if someone was able to upgrade/fresh install ubuntu 10.10 maverick on a dell studio hybrid. First I've tried to upgrade. Everything went well, until the system started. First thing to notice is that the orange was so bright that was almost impossible to look at the monitor. Not a big deal, adjusting some monitor brightness etc. Second the mouse (usb) stopped for some fraction of a second, or a second, when you click to open a program. It is annoying but it is also a problem that I could wait to find some solution.
Third and worse, it was completely impossible to see videos in vlc or other players, I've tried vlc, xine, etc, the videos was stuttered, choppy. SMPlayer was able to play them better. I've tried the solution here [URL] and it does not work at least for me. Fourth the fans went completely crazy, running as mainly when I have to use smplayer, I've found some complains about that [URL] but the solution does not apply to my computer.
Then I've tried a fresh install hoping that some of the troubles would not appear. The only trouble solved was the look and feel. Mouse the same trouble, stuttered, choppy videos on vlc, fans running all the time. And now it was impossible to install the wireless proprietary driver Broadcom sta. The only solution was to come back to Lucid. A fresh install of Lucid and mouse working ok, no troubles seeing videos in vlc, fans working absolutely normal and no troubles to install the wireless driver.
I need some help getting my wireless card working.I have a ASUS PCE-N13 and I'm running ubuntu 10.10 AMD64.I have confirmed that the card works running under win xp.The problem I have is that it can't see any available networks.I have downloaded and compile the latest driver from ASUS rt2860sta 2.1.0.0 and added these lines to the blacklist file.

Windows says I have a intel wifi link 1000 bgn card however lspci list it as a intel wifi link 100 series. I can not get it work right and does not seem to be recognized.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just lost my weekend trying to install Xubuntu 10.04 on my pc I made the ps a while back - its built on a ASUS P4S800D-E motherboard and it has an ATI Radeon 9200 LE graphics card. It has a PS/2 keyboard and mouse, 1Gb of memory and a 160Gb PATA/IDE hard drive (I unplugged the SATA drives) Every time I installed or made a tweak to the config it failed in the same way. It showed its failure by continually repeating the first character typed. Regardless of whether this was the password screen for synaptic or just the first character typed into a terminal. Until the first character was typed the mouse seemed to work ok but then it would stall too
I've tried most things, running Xorg with/without an xorg.conf file, loading the ppa kernel and tweaking loads of bios and grub boot parameters all to no avail. So I think I want a more linux friendly graphics card and I fear I may need a new motherboard. Can someone recommend a replacement graphics card for this motherboard? Can anyone reassure me that my motherboard is ok with linux?
just installed opensuse 11.3 on my asus eee pc 1018p and have severe problems to make the wireless network card work. tried to install the driver with ndiswrapper and b43-cutter, but without any success. ifconfig does not show any wlan0 device. below find output of

I have a Wireless PCI-Express Adapter which I wish to install the drivers, though am having difficulty. The chipset on my card is a Ralink. I have visited the Ralink Website Ralink corp. and downloaded the RT2860 Wireless Lan Linux Driver version 2.3.0.0. I have extracted the files within my home directory. I have read the readme file, and from what I understand I have needed to do... I have typed in the Make command as a "super user". Okay first off I'm a noob with Ubuntu. I've been trying to get Warcraft 3 and WoW to run on ubuntu via Wine, so far I managed to get them installed and running but I always have problems with graphics (poor rendering as oposed to when I ran them on windows). So I figured that maybe the graphics card/driver aren't installed correctly.
On the terminal I got this information: Intel Corporation 82G33/G31 Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02) I checked System > Administration > Additional Drivers When it finishes searching for drivers I get the message "No proprietary drives are in use on this system" (I have no idea what this means, I read elsewhere that I should check this) So um, I don't know If any of this is useful or necessary to fix my problem.

All I want this machine to do is play video from off the net on my LCD HD TV. The video on board was all choppy when going into full screen mode so I put in a 3dfx Voodoo card and the same thing happens. The audio is built into the mother board. It worked fine with Ubuntu 10.04 I read a few posts here and there, and ran a hardware diagnostic. It came back and said no sound card was installed.
