Ubuntu Multimedia :: Does Anybody Use USB HDTV (digital Or Hybrid) Tuner?
Sep 1, 2011
Does anybody use USB HDTV (digital or hybrid) tuner ?
1) does teletext work in digital TV ?
- Do teletext pages appear immediately after page numbers entering or
- must you wait every time because of counter rewinding ?
2) Does analog FM radio (88 - 108 MHz) work in that kind tuners ?
to set up my usb, digital TV Tuner, an AVerTV Hybrid Volar HD (H830) , to work with MythTV? I note that the 'MythTV backend set-up', only refers TV Tuner cards, not usb sticks. Nevertheless, the link above provides a 'Linux x86' driver for my computer a .tar.gz file. The link also provides an accompanying text file that asserts 'This package is tested with MythTV against Ubuntu 10.04'. I've recently installed Ubuntu 11.04.The accompanying text gives its pre-requisites as a. support linux kernel 2.6.29 or later. b. make sure /lib/modules/`uname -r`/build exists c. make sure "dvb_frontend.h" exist in your Ubuntu. d. kernel modules dependency: videodev, video buf-core, v4l2-common.
For (b), my computer shows the following path /lib/modules/2.6.38-10-generic/build$ I'm note sure what (c) means with 'in your Ubuntu' Needless to say, its later instruction doesn't work Install driver to system sudo ./xxx_LinuxDrv_x86_vxxx-beta_Install.sh I'm told that this 'command not found'
I have a tv tuner card thats a couple years old, well since they are phasing out the old analog cable channels with digital ones, my card is not picking them up anymore. Is there any way to get the digital ones without buying a new card?
I want to watch tv with my usb tv tuner Pinnacle pctv hybrid pro on Fedora 15 64bit.The best i could do is watch analog tv without sound at all ! or watching digital tv but without the ability to change channels ! i need to press the stop button and then choose my channel and hit play again. If i tried to change chanell it stuck . [URL] Its a quality tvtuner and i would like to use it.PS1: I was completely crazy testing the Fedora 15 64bit , gnome UI was so fantastic, fedora was so fast not like the ubuntu fatpig. Im so decided to format my harddisk and install only fedora.
I just bought a 32" Panasonic LCD (1080p) and have decided to use that as my main monitor. Unfortunately, when I hooked it up to my computer, I had under-scan with both Windows 7 x64 and Ubuntu Karmic x64 (using a Radeon HD 4870 1GB). In Windows, there was a simple slider in the Catalyst Control Center to fix the under-scan issue. Unfortunately, the same option wasn't available with the Linux counterpart. I searched online for some answers, but all the ones I found seemed outdated, or gave me errors.Using the Aticonfig help command, I figured out how to fix the under-scan in Linux.
Long time Ubuntu user, but it's been a couple years.
My friend had an old Dell Dimension E251 lying around and I said I'd help him turn it into a media center of sorts. The old 52" HDTV he wants to plug it into has a broken vga input and no HDMI, so our only real option is component or (heaven forbid) S-video. He can afford to get a new video card if it's relatively cheap, and I'm not really sure what would be our best option. Does anyone have a card in mind that would be relatively hassle free? I considered getting a card with HDMI output and using one of those HDMI to component converters, but my research suggests that that won't work. Are there old cards with component out, or is there a card that makes this relatively easy to achieve?
I cannot get video, let alone audio, from my opensuse 11.3 box to my HDTV via the AV receiver.I have a computer and a DVR as HDMI input to a Yamaha 765 receiver. The receiver than uses hdmi to output to my samsung hdtv. I am using a ZOTAC GeForce GT 220 with an HDMI port as a video card. As an aside, I could probably upgrade my video card. Suggestions are welcome though I am concerned about heat as it needs to share space with a 4 port hardware RAID controller.
I'm helping a friend set up his new pc and we're having a lot of trouble getting his second monitor to work.He has a GeForce GTS250 video card which has a HDMI output port as well as VGA. His main monitor is connected via the VGA and works fine. The second monitor is a Soniq QV320H TV which he wants to connect via HDMI. The nvidia settings configuration shows both monitors (set up as separate x-screens) but the only output on the Soniq is a black screen which flashes "unsupported" about every 2 seconds. Currently the resolution is set to auto (1280x1024) but we've also tried lower resolutions (down to 800x600) with no success.
I have an HTPC with an onboard ATI video chipset but for hardware acceleration's sake, I installed a GeForce 9500GT video card. Everything works quite well, except for the overscan issue. I've installed the latest nvidia binary drivers (manually) but I don't see any options in nvidia-settings to solve this overscan issue.
Here is my xorg.conf file:
Code: # nvidia-xconfig: X configuration file generated by nvidia-xconfig # nvidia-xconfig: version 260.19.21 (buildmeister@builder103.nvidia.com) Thu Nov 4 20:57:26 PDT 2010 Section "ServerLayout" Identifier "Layout0" Screen 0 "Screen0"
[Code]...
I tried adding that ModeLine line myself (using xrandr and gtf) but that fails too. I've scoured the web and these forums, and I've seen some overscan issues reported but with no solution in sight.
I've recently got a HDTV LCD display (BenQ SD3742), and a nettop (Acer revo 3610) to go with it. I connected them using an HDMI cable, and I installed the latest Ubuntu 10.04 64 bits edition.I then installed the latest nvidia drivers (nvidia-current package, which is nvidia-glx-195) to support nVidia ION platform using this ppa: https://launchpad.net/~nvidia-vdpau/+archive/ppaAccording to various websites, my LCD is FullHD, so I should be able to select 1920x1080 resolution. But the automatically selected resolution is 1280x768, and in nVidia configuration panel, this resolution is stated as being "native resolution" for my screen (its name is correctly detected by Ubuntu, by the way!).If I select 1920x1080 and "Apply", the resolution is changed but the borders of my desktop are not available... and the image looks deformed anyway. Is there any way to make Ubuntu to detect properly this LCD display in its real native resolution (FullHD, 1920x1080)?
So I think it's a problem with the resolution not changing back. But I don't see any menu, like the HP Logo, on my monitor at all. Thought It might be the blue cable, changed it, nothing. Plugged it back into TV and it works fine.
I've had a look and can't find this particular problem on the boards (feel free to correct me if there is something useful already though). I've recently got a Sony HDTV, and have hooked it up via HDMI to an Nvidia GeForce graphics card. Surprisingly enough, I'd like to watch movies/TV this way. However I'm experiencing flickery horizontal white lines on the desktop, and horizontal lines through video. I generally use VLC to play stuff, and have the 805 Nvidia proprietary driver installed.
So far I've tried: Changing the resolution and refresh rate (Including the native TV ones) Using Twinview, Separate X Screen and unplugging my monitor altogether. Uninstalling the Nvidia Drivers and using the standard ones Re-Installing the Nvidia Drivers Xine Player Changing video output of VLC to X11 Using Force scaling (I think, it's a tv-specific setting to compensate for differences in native resolution) Switching desktop effects on and off
In short, it doesn't seem to be an issue with drivers, resolution, refresh rate, video files, codecs or players. How to stop these flickery lines as I wouldn't like to have to give up on the OS over one problem.
I installed mythbuntu 9.10 this week on some old hardware, I had a Hauppauge 500MCE PVR in and made it work fairly easy. I'm used to gentoo
However, I want to record HD signal, so I plugged in a Eyetv hybrid and followed this guide url.
I extracted the driver, put it in into /lib/firmware, modprobed em28xx, rebooted. When I plug in the device, it is not recognised. I tried both usb ports. The ID is "0fd9:0018", which is somewhat different from similar hardware e.g. Hauppauge wintv-hvr-950 (ID 2040:6513 url.
I think the hardware has been updated, hope someone knows how to crack this one
I have added some additional information below! # uname -a

Linux m 2.6.31-14-generic #48-Ubuntu SMP Fri Oct 16 14:04:26 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux
I have an AverTV Hybrid Volar MAX.I really would like to get the FM radio tuner working with this on my laptop. When I do 'sudo fmscan' I get the following:ioctl VIDIOCGTUNER: Invalid argumentI have downloaded and installed the drivers from AverMedia's web page (TV is working). This is on a Compaq Laptop (Presario V5305WM) on a fresh install of Jaunty.
I am also new to ubuntu but have manage so far, except for my tv-card. Seems like Metv and kaffeine cant see the tv-card ?! I have a asus mycinema-p7131 hybrid, does someone have info on installing this ? except for this i think ubuntu 10 is great.
On both Karmic Koala as well as Lucid Lynx, I am having massive problems getting my nvidia card to register properly. I am on an Acer Aspire 5953 laptop pc with a Gt130m discrete GPU in a hybrid installation with an onboard GPU.Freshly installed, both 9.10 and 10.04 runs smoothly, I can enable desktop effects, I can even see the screensavers that run openGL - although they run laggily in fullscreen, since they're obviously using the onboard, and very weak, GPU.The problem however, appears whenever I install the suggested NVIDIA drivers that Ubuntu finds for me - after doing this, I am asked to reboot the system and on both systems, I am treated to a black screen, instead of a login-screen. The only way to get the system up and running again, I have found, is boot in fail safe mode and edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf, erasing everything. This lets me boot back up in a regular mode.
When I check the logs, both the onboard GPU and the gt130m GPU is located, the onboard as PCI:0:0:2:0 and the nvidia gt130m discrete gpu as PCI:0:1:0:0 - I have tried adding BusID: ("PCI:0:1:0:0") to the xorg.conf, too, to no avail. I am continously treated to the black screen (a flicker at most) and the logs always tells me that no xserver could find no screens. So far, I have only been installing Ubuntu inside windows - I am hesitating to install on a fresh drive, since I am afraid of the nvidia black screen putting me in a position where I can't access the system. Is it possible that the fact that I install ubuntu inside windows might somehow affect Linux's capability of accessing my discrete GPU?
what DVB-T USB tuner should I buy? I expect it to have full support including the remote control operation. Intended use is for Ubuntu with XBMC installed.
I haven't had one for years, so i am not even really sure what options to look for. So i need to be able to stream media, record media, record cable box, play cable box, listen to local FM radio would be really nice.
Ubuntu version: Karmic Koala (ubuntu 9.10)I've been fiddling arround quite some time with this card. So far i established the following:
1. Card is supported by drivers already available in kernel (v4l, v4l(2)). 2. Card is recognised by Skype as well as by gstreamer. However gstreamer gives me mostly greeen screen when i test it. no propper picture. both found it on video1 (video0 is webcam). 3. I know it is supposed to work well in Linux URL...instructions are for fedora here. 4. there are quite a few tutorial for this card online (even ubuntu), however they are for older version and most of them consist of getting new drivers installed (which are already included with Karmic).
TV Time - blank screen - it is trying to get video from video0 device, which is webcam. i can not set it to use video1 instead as when i click in the menu to change input nothing happens.VLC player - i select use device and set it to V4l or PVR. in both cases the programme itself switches to video0 and turns on my webcam. Nothing else happens. I also installed iv-tv including all necessary libraries and dependancies - as suggested as solution to similar model of card. Didn't change anyhting. it's basically the only thing that is not working yet (most other things i already solved-sort of). I am also interested why the programmes keep switching automaticly to video0 for input when i clearly state to them to use video1?!If this can not be solved can anyone suggest another cheap TV tunner that "just works" in Ubuntu (including remote control)?! I have a big monitor and i think i could use it as TV instead of getting a new TV....
Does anyone know of any way to get this thing to work on Karmic? Just to be able to watch TV, not even to record? I can't seem to get it to recognize it. lsusb just shows:
Code: Bus 001 Device 006: ID 0438:b003 Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. but it doesn't show up in dev/video0 or anything like that, and I don't know of a program which will play it. I don't really have the money to go out and buy another tv tuner, so I really would like to get this one to work, or else I'm going to have to switch to windows
No progress viewing input yet in Linux. I installed MythTV, VLC, and no luck yet with vids or sound.I had video input with Windows Movie Maker, and Media Player Classic (3rd party), but no sound in either.
I never got that card to work In Ubuntu , this is how i`m plugged in from my setop box by coax cable to my tv tuner card . In windows i have no problem using the drivers provided by compro. It would be really cool if i got that card working in Ubuntu
I have a Compro Videomate M1F TV tuner card (internal PCI). After installing ubuntu 10.10 I noticed my card was not recognized and tvtime showed no image no sound. After a Google search, I found differente threads and I tried the following: I've created saa1734.conf in directory /etc/modprobe.d (with administrative rights) with these lines:
Quote:
alias char-major-81 videodev alias char-major-81-0 saa7134 options i2c-algo-bit bit_test=1 options saa7134 card=99 tuner=59 secam=dk options tuner secam=d
After that, I rebooted the computer and after starting tvtime, I can see all the tv channels (great) but I have No SOUND and I don't know how to deal with that and couldn't find a solution.I know there is a problem with OSS not being supported anymore or something like that and I am a bit confused.
I am trying to get a tv tuner type GT-P5100 to work in Kubuntu but I have no luck. The type of tv tunner is: [URL] I checked [URL] and there is no page for this kind of tuner. I've compiled [URL] and it worked, but in tvtime I get no image. Is there another way to test if my tv tuner is working? I have no entry in /dev/dvb A relevant part of dmesg is:
I just got a Diamond ATI TV Wonder HD 750 USB, but it appears as though my 10.04 wont detect it. Myth cant find it. I tried to install it on my other comp running 10.10 but no dice. Anyone know of a way to get this Tv tuner card working in Ubuntu?
I want to use my laptop for watching cable TV and as a DVR. I need to buy a TV tuner card for the laptop. What I want to know is what brands and cards work with Ubuntu 10.04? Are they easy to install or so I need to be a CLI geek to make it work?
I have 2 tv cards that I have successfully configured to work in linux. But this 3rd one I bought recently seems to have a problem. The card is not autodetcted (that's really not the problem) but when I try to load saa7134 with:sudo modprobe saa7134 card=xx tuner=xx, it loads whatever card I indicate but the tuner never changes. This is part of the output of dmesg:
Linux video capture interface: v2.00 saa7130/34: v4l2 driver version 0.2.15 loaded saa7134 0000:02:04.0: PCI INT A -> GSI 16 (level, low) -> IRQ 16
