OpenSUSE Hardware :: Installing (compiling) Wireless Card Drivers Asus PCE-N13?

Jul 6, 2010

I have a Wireless PCI-Express Adapter which I wish to install the drivers, though am having difficulty. The chipset on my card is a Ralink. I have visited the Ralink Website Ralink corp. and downloaded the RT2860 Wireless Lan Linux Driver version 2.3.0.0. I have extracted the files within my home directory. I have read the readme file, and from what I understand I have needed to do... I have typed in the Make command as a "super user". Unfortunately I have had no success and it states the following output.

Fedora :: Compiling Drivers For ASUS PCI - G31

Nov 7, 2010

I am trying to compile the drivers for my new wireless adapter card. It has me copy a specific configuration based on my Kernal (2.6 which is supported) to a Makefile, then "make all."I get an error after performing this task stating that the path ending in /build is not a directory. I follow the path to /build and "build" is shown in red letters with a black box around it. Just for fun I attempted MKDIR build, and it stated "file exists" ls-la says it is not a directory. I think this is where it is bombing, from the Makefile:

make -c /lib/modules/$(shell uname -r)/build SUBDIRS=$(shell pwd) modules

Fedora :: Installing Wireless Card Drivers Without Network Connection

Jul 23, 2009

I have Fedora11 running in my machine and it has no LAN port (RJ-45). I have a wireless PCMCIA card. The model of the wireless card is NL-2511CD EXT2(ETSI).When I insert that card to the PCMCIA slot a window pops up and ask for a WEP key. My wireless router is configured with WPA but above pop-up has no WPA option. I suspect my fedora installation does not have the necessary driver for my wireless card.I want to install that driver. I can transfer that file to the machine via thumb drive since it has no network connection yet. How do I install this? Please refer below images as I'm still a newbie at linux.

Fedora :: Inc - Compiling Wireless Drivers - Software Management Tool

Aug 6, 2011

I've just installed Fedora this morning. In the past I've tried OpenSuse and Ubuntu. OpenSuse has it's problems and I don't like Ubuntu's new "Unity" GUI, so I wanted to try something else.

1. I got my first error about 1 minute after loading, when I tried to do a software update.("could not add package update for fedora-release-rawhide-15-3(noarch)updates: fedora-release-rawhide-15-3.noarch"). Not sure what that's about, but I found a solution on these forums (just using yum update on the command line).

2. My wireless card (Realtek) is not working. It took me ages (days) to figure out how to get it to work in OpenSuse. I had to compile the driver from source and install the firmware. I'm trying to do the same in Fedora, but am getting an error I don't understand.

On OpenSuse I had to install "Linux Kernel Development", "C/C++ Development" and "Base Development" from YaST, then compile using "make" on the command line. In Fedora I've installed gcc gcc-c++, kernel-devel and kernel-headers using yum. When I try and make the file, I get the following error:

[Code]....

3. I can't find any kind of software management tool in Fedora, just the yum thing on the command line. I don't mind that, but how do I know the names of the things I want to install? Is there some way I can search for software or something?

Fedora Hardware :: Making Kernel Modules For Asus PCI-G31 Wireless Card?

Feb 1, 2010

I've got a wireless card and would like to make a driver module for it from the ralink tarball. Here's the details:

1. The Asus PCI-G31 uses the RaLink RT2561/RT61 802.11g chipset.

Code:

lspci
<some output omitted>
04:03.0 Network controller: RaLink RT2561/RT61 802.11g PCI

2. I am using the latest driver download from www.ralinktech.com which is

2009_0123_RT61_Linux_STA_v1.1.2.3.tar.bz2

3. I followed the documentation and I think it makes a script. Here's part of the README from the tarball.

Code:

Build Instructions:

1> $tar -xvzf RT61_Linux_STA_Drv_x.x.x.x.tar.gz
go to "./RT61_Linux_STA_Drv_x.x.x.x/Module" directory.
2> $cp Makefile.4 ./Makefile # [kernel 2.4]

Ubuntu Networking :: Installing An Asus N13 USB Wireless Receiver?

May 24, 2011

I trouble someone to provide some assistance on how to properly install this thing and get it to work? I have been all over the web trying all sorts of different "tutorials", but most of them start off okay, and then I get errors in the terminal, or the commands in the tutorials become specific to one person's particular system, and I can go no further. I really want to use Ubuntu 11 on a system that currently is running the reprehensible Windows Vista, and if I could just get this Wireless receiver to work, I would be able to format Vista into oblivion.

So, can someone start at the very beginning, and help me through this? Please keep in mind that I am as green as a leprechaun when it comes to Ubuntu, so please make instructions verbose and geared to a layperson, if it wouldn't be too much trouble. So, the unit is plugged in, and ready to go. What's first?

OpenSUSE Install :: Acpi Better / Card Went To Legacy What Version Still Has Ati Drivers For Card

Dec 6, 2009

i have a little experience with ubuntu but i have had bugs that are not resolvable at this time in ubuntu. so instead of giving wild bill back my pc i am looking for a new distro. my concerns with ubuntu revolve around acpi. no fan control and high temp. the 2nd problem that is almost overlookable is the ata1 softreset error. it usually is no problem but occasionally have to do manual fsck to fix. so heres my laptop specs. toshiba a305d-s6848. amd turion x2 ati x1250 integrated. 3gb ram. 500gb hd vista and ubuntu 9.04 dual boot grub with 100gb ubuntu and the rest vista. so q1= what suse version would be best?

q2= is suse's acpi better? ubuntu runs all features but fan control
q3= is suse as easy to install? or harder
q4= ati graphics i know for my card went to legacy what version still has the ati drivers for my card
q5= is suse easier or harder to work with and get everything working.

i know no linux is or opsys is perfect. im just looking for one that is stable and works the pc correctly. i know its a big thing to ask. i know no one can tell me that. but just looking for suggestions. im thinking of downloading suse and does all the downloads support live sessions.
