Ubuntu Multimedia :: Set Up Usb, Digital TV Tuner, An AVerTV Hybrid Volar HD (H830) , To Work With MythTV?
Aug 14, 2011
to set up my usb, digital TV Tuner, an AVerTV Hybrid Volar HD (H830) , to work with MythTV? I note that the 'MythTV backend set-up', only refers TV Tuner cards, not usb sticks. Nevertheless, the link above provides a 'Linux x86' driver for my computer a .tar.gz file. The link also provides an accompanying text file that asserts 'This package is tested with MythTV against Ubuntu 10.04'. I've recently installed Ubuntu 11.04.The accompanying text gives its pre-requisites as a. support linux kernel 2.6.29 or later. b. make sure /lib/modules/`uname -r`/build exists c. make sure "dvb_frontend.h" exist in your Ubuntu. d. kernel modules dependency: videodev, video buf-core, v4l2-common.
For (b), my computer shows the following path /lib/modules/2.6.38-10-generic/build$ I'm note sure what (c) means with 'in your Ubuntu' Needless to say, its later instruction doesn't work Install driver to system sudo ./xxx_LinuxDrv_x86_vxxx-beta_Install.sh I'm told that this 'command not found'
I have an AverTV Hybrid Volar MAX.I really would like to get the FM radio tuner working with this on my laptop. When I do 'sudo fmscan' I get the following:ioctl VIDIOCGTUNER: Invalid argumentI have downloaded and installed the drivers from AverMedia's web page (TV is working). This is on a Compaq Laptop (Presario V5305WM) on a fresh install of Jaunty.
Avermedia AverTV volar GO is a pure analog External USB TV tuner device. I recently purchased it and struggling to get it working on Ubuntu 10.10. Ubuntu detects the card , as we can see it from lsusb, but tvtime doesn't find any /dev/video0 device. Also there is no mention about the device in dmesg. I had mailed Avermedia enquiring Linux support. However , they replied that they donot have Linux driver for this model. Is there any way we can get this work on Ubuntu.??
Does anybody use USB HDTV (digital or hybrid) tuner ?
1) does teletext work in digital TV ? - Do teletext pages appear immediately after page numbers entering or - must you wait every time because of counter rewinding ?
2) Does analog FM radio (88 - 108 MHz) work in that kind tuners ?
I've a new HDTV card: Avermedia AverTv Digi Volar Ex( DBT-T, USB 2.0). Has any been able to use it with OpenSuse 11.2? Is there an easy way to configure it? I've tried with yast, but nothing.
I have a tv tuner card thats a couple years old, well since they are phasing out the old analog cable channels with digital ones, my card is not picking them up anymore. Is there any way to get the digital ones without buying a new card?
I have a TV Tuner Card (AverTV Super 009 from AverMedia). I am not able to work with it. My dmesg output is here.
It says my card number is 180 and tuner 1-42. I have tried all the 42 numbers in the tuner option in the modprobe command (modprobe saa7134 card=180 tuner=1 to modprobe saa7134 card=180 tuner=42). But result is not good. The file CARDLIST.saa7134 in kernel.org displays my device ?
I have installed a new TV Tuner Card. AverTV Super 009 TV Tuner Card from Avermedia. I am using Fedora 14. How can I make the above card work for me? (I am not proficient in Linux.)
I want to watch tv with my usb tv tuner Pinnacle pctv hybrid pro on Fedora 15 64bit.The best i could do is watch analog tv without sound at all ! or watching digital tv but without the ability to change channels ! i need to press the stop button and then choose my channel and hit play again. If i tried to change chanell it stuck . Its a quality tvtuner and i would like to use it.PS1: I was completely crazy testing the Fedora 15 64bit , gnome UI was so fantastic, fedora was so fast not like the ubuntu fatpig. Im so decided to format my harddisk and install only fedora.
Is there any way to simulate analogue and digital(DVB) cards during development with MythTV so I am able to do some basic testing on a separate computer without disturbing my real MythTV server ?
MythTV Records fine but will not play the recorded shows and I can not watch or open the TV. Running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS lucid Runing a pcHDTV HD-5500 Video card Using on Board Video from an Asus M3A78-EM with onboard ATI Radeoon 3200

I am trying to get mythtv to work with my tv card. I am using ubuntu 10.04 and I have installed mythtv but it isn't picking up my tv tuner card. I have a Hauppauge wintv hvr 1250. I am wondering what I need to do to get it to work?
Does anyone know of any way to get this thing to work on Karmic? Just to be able to watch TV, not even to record? I can't seem to get it to recognize it. lsusb just shows:
Code: Bus 001 Device 006: ID 0438:b003 Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. but it doesn't show up in dev/video0 or anything like that, and I don't know of a program which will play it. I don't really have the money to go out and buy another tv tuner, so I really would like to get this one to work, or else I'm going to have to switch to windows
My tv tuners works under vlc only, my webcam only works in vlc and xaw tv, I tried skype and it didn't detect either one. However in Puppy Linux both of these worked flawlessly, they were both detected in skype. here's v4l-info.
Code: ### v4l2 device info [/dev/video0] ### general info VIDIOC_QUERYCAP
....
There is also a /dev/video2 but when I try v4l-info /dev/video2 the terminal hangs and I have to close it out. Also I've tried.
It didn't work. Also gstreamer-properties doesn't start. I don't know if it's related or not.The first was that I couldn't even get it to boot off of the cd in order to install it, I had to use a usb.
After much effort I got mythtv to work on my HP TouchSmart. Then I decided to install it on my laptop before I forgot all the troubleshooting tricks. So I unplugged my Hauppauge WinTV-HVR 850 from the TouchSmart and plugged it in the laptop. I was successful getting mythtv running on the laptop so I returned the tv tuner to the TouchSmart.Much to my dismay, mythtv no longer worked on the TouchSmart. I moved the tuner to the laptop again to see if mythtv worked. It didn't. Apparently, the act of unplugging the tuner and plugging it back in broke something.
For usb hard drives and cameras, an icon appears on the desktop that allows me to right click and choose to safely remove the device. I had no idea that unplugging a usb device without such an icon would cause any problems.Initially, the problem seemed to be with mythtv as I was able to successfully execute the following commands:
I have a generic saa7134 PCI TV Tuner branded as Encore without a radio. Recently I got it working on xawtv (with a pcm error delayed sound and TVTime (no sound? unless executed a record <parameters>. Now, i want to use that TV Tuner in GNU Radio GQRX-SDR to listen or receive NOAA APT transmission, but the problem is I don't know how to get it done. I tried to research but nothing came up with my configuration. I dont have any other USB SDR so Im just using the PCI TV Tuner. Any other ways to resolve the delayed sound in xawtv/arecord? Im using the saa7134-alsa. Any other software to manually set the frequency of the TV Tuner in the NOAA freq 137.xMHz so I can just record it using any application.
Additional info: I am using Debian GNU/Linux 8.2 Jessie i386 CPU Intel KDE Plasma Desktop Manager
I am running Debian Squeeze stable on a bare atom board. Only yesterday I installed an analog PCI TV tuner (AverTV Super 009). But I am unable to tune any TV/FM channel. Is it that the stock squeeze kernel doesn't have driver for this particular card? Or I'm missing some bits in configuration? Do I need to upgrade kernel (is any later kernel available in backports)? Here is some info that you may require:
I am using Ubuntu 9.10. I have downloaded MythTV frontend and attempted installing and using Hauppage USB WinTv -HVR 950Q tuner. On TVTime I get "no signal". I attempt configuring source but ge nowhere. I have used MythTv backend to set up tuner. It recognizes the tuner, but when I select "Watch TV" I get the message: "Error: MythTV is using all inputs but there are no active recordings?"
I wanted some input on chronic problems with Ubuntu:
1. Why does wireless almost never work right on Ubuntu?
2. Why, when Ubuntu just decides to turn off my wireless card, can I not just turn it back on?
3. Why do tar balls almost never unpack right?
4. Why are printer drivers so buggy?
5. Why do my MP3 players and digital cameras not work with Ubuntu?
I spent 3 hours last night trying to unpack a tar.bz2 file so I can run my Ralink network card. It worked fine until my son unplugged my computer. Now my card is disconnected and it will not reconnect. When I check forums no one has a simple answer for something as simple as turning a network card back on. On my Apple, it's simple: click my wireless icon and hit "on." tell me an easy way to just turn my wireless card back on, it would renew my faith a little in Linux.
I installed mythbuntu 9.10 this week on some old hardware, I had a Hauppauge 500MCE PVR in and made it work fairly easy. I'm used to gentoo
However, I want to record HD signal, so I plugged in a Eyetv hybrid and followed this guide url.
I extracted the driver, put it in into /lib/firmware, modprobed em28xx, rebooted. When I plug in the device, it is not recognised. I tried both usb ports. The ID is "0fd9:0018", which is somewhat different from similar hardware e.g. Hauppauge wintv-hvr-950 (ID 2040:6513 url.
I think the hardware has been updated, hope someone knows how to crack this one
I have added some additional information below! # uname -a
Quote:
Linux m 2.6.31-14-generic #48-Ubuntu SMP Fri Oct 16 14:04:26 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux
I am also new to ubuntu but have manage so far, except for my tv-card. Seems like Metv and kaffeine cant see the tv-card ?! I have a asus mycinema-p7131 hybrid, does someone have info on installing this ? except for this i think ubuntu 10 is great.
On both Karmic Koala as well as Lucid Lynx, I am having massive problems getting my nvidia card to register properly. I am on an Acer Aspire 5953 laptop pc with a Gt130m discrete GPU in a hybrid installation with an onboard GPU.Freshly installed, both 9.10 and 10.04 runs smoothly, I can enable desktop effects, I can even see the screensavers that run openGL - although they run laggily in fullscreen, since they're obviously using the onboard, and very weak, GPU.The problem however, appears whenever I install the suggested NVIDIA drivers that Ubuntu finds for me - after doing this, I am asked to reboot the system and on both systems, I am treated to a black screen, instead of a login-screen. The only way to get the system up and running again, I have found, is boot in fail safe mode and edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf, erasing everything. This lets me boot back up in a regular mode.
When I check the logs, both the onboard GPU and the gt130m GPU is located, the onboard as PCI:0:0:2:0 and the nvidia gt130m discrete gpu as PCI:0:1:0:0 - I have tried adding BusID: ("PCI:0:1:0:0") to the xorg.conf, too, to no avail. I am continously treated to the black screen (a flicker at most) and the logs always tells me that no xserver could find no screens. So far, I have only been installing Ubuntu inside windows - I am hesitating to install on a fresh drive, since I am afraid of the nvidia black screen putting me in a position where I can't access the system. Is it possible that the fact that I install ubuntu inside windows might somehow affect Linux's capability of accessing my discrete GPU?
After overcomming a lot of difficulties, my MythTV (Via Epia 10000EG with Hauppauge PVR 500 card) worked with Mythbuntu 9.04. Last year it crashed and I had no time to spare to rebuild it.
Last couple of weeks I had more time and downloaded and tried to install Mythbuntu 10.10. Everything seems to be installed ok, but I get no picture in MythTV when I select "Watch TV" and no picture when I try to record something. When watching TV, the message "Please wait" appears for appr. 5 secs and then the system returns to the menu.
I installed Mythbuntu 10.10 and am using the provided IVTV drivers.
Dmesg and lspci give no errors, every seems to be in order, IVTV drivers are loaded, initialized and errorfree. Cat /dev/video0 gives me static in MPLAYER. The MythTV backendlog doesn't even give a message, the frontend log just says there is no picture...
There seems to be an error between the back and frontend. I checked the settings in capturecards, TV sources, channel edits, etc, etc, but I can't find it.
I've been at this for the last hour. I just put a Hauppage WinTV-TVR-1800 into my machine, rebooted and installed MythTV. I set up the card, the video source and the input as well as configured a few random channels. I click WATCH TV in the menu, it goes to a screen saying, "Please Wait....", then it brings me back to the menu. There's no error, is there some sort of log file.

I'm getting very frustrated, having dropped a substantial (for me) amount of money trying to get a DVR setup, and Myth TV has punished me every step of the way.At this point, the extreme frustration is that sound *was* working earlier - not going to the TV via HDMI (Which seems like it should be easy but I've yet to get it to work) but I had speakers working - right up to the instant I installed restricted extra's to run mp3's - the instant I got totem to play sound, I completely lost all sound from myth TV, even playing back digital files it has recorded have no sound now.
alsamixer seems to have been used numerous times to fix these issues, but doesn't actually show as a valid package when I check the repository - I installed the gnome version instead, but nothing I do there seems to have any effect.I'm not entirely sure if I need/should be using the patch from the pc5500 cards into the sound card line in - as near as I can tell, that's only for analog signals, and it *was* running happily without it.
As mentioned - sound is fine from everything else, but even playing a recorded file I have no sound playback (Note: I had not recorded anything I can verify *had* sound before). I've gone through various guides, and I got nuthin'. All the actual cards and hardware have every appearance of working.
