I've bought a Film scanner from Aldi, Called a "traveller TV-6500 sf" It comes only with windoze drivers. I have Ubuntu 11.04. All up to date! I have Xsane installed, which works fine with my flatbed scanner. It does not even "see" the film scanner. It's plugged into a usb port(tried several) and lights up, so assume that the hardware is ok.

I've tried running it in a VirtualBox Windows XP, but it doesn't appear to work - goes off & churns but doesn't appear to get a picture back.
I am a beginner with Ubuntu and I have limited knowledge with computers. I want to be able to professionally edit photos and film to create videos. Can you please let me know what programs would be good to download?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to play a HD rip of a film from dvd. It's in mkv format but it doesn't seem to play properly in oS. I've tried using SMplayer and Kaffeine but neither work well. In SMplayer the picture freezes after about 35s but the sound continues. With Kaffein the picture works but I loose the sound after about 15s. In win xp it plays fine.
CPU usage in oS is around 45-50% so it's not maxing out my cpu.

I was able to get the printer up and running by downloading the printer driver for debian linux (3.1) from the Canon site without any problems.
Unfortunately I am not having the same luck with the scanner.
I tried downloading ScanGear MP for Linux (deb) (1.3) from the same Canon site but have not yet been able to get the XSane Image Scanner to recognize this scanner driver for my Canon.
How could I see stereoscopic side by side picture film using smplayer with vdpau on normal LED monitor?

I'm on a laptop, and the printer/scanner is wifi enabled and broadcasts with its own IP address. I can print with no problem, but xsane and simple scan don't recognize the scanner. I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx.

I've installed XSane Image Scanner. When I first opened it, it searched for my scanner and didn't give any error messages, and it had my scanner model in the heading of the scan window. But when I hit the scan button, it gave me saying, "Failed to start scanner: error during device I/O.I closed everything, and opened XSane again. This time it said there was no scanner available. The scanner is plugged into the USB port and uses that for both power and data. It's a Canoscan Model N650U.

I go to admin, open the config for printer, and print the test page but I get no color. Also, in the properties of the printer I cannot see the level of the ink. Recently got a Canon Canoscan 8800F after looking it up on the SANE site and said it was completely supported for Linux.
I have downloaded the pixma drivers and have compiled the command line program, but it can't find the scanner.
lsusb returns a Canon scanner Bus 001 Device 005: ID 04a9:1901 Canon, Inc.
and sane-find-scanner returns:found USB scanner (vendor=0x04a9 [Canon], product=0x1901 [CanoScan]) at libusb:001:005
but scanimage -L (under my user login or sudo) returns only the webcam. No other scanner found.
My system is running Linux Mint 7, ia64 kernel 2.6.28-11-generic
I tried to do all the things I found online in aim installing the driver of my Broadcom 802.11 card, so I will have wireless in my UBUNTU 11.04. But I always get those messages (which appear in the end).

I have an epson stylus sx425w which is a printer/scanner. ubuntu found and installed a driver for me and im able to use the printer fine but for some reason the scanner just isnt working. if i use the simple scan software it says connect a printer and if i press the scan button on the printer and select usb it says connection problem.
i saw a post about this already for ubuntu 10 or 9 and they provided a link for a newly released driver which turned out to be the drive ubuntu installed automatically and that hasnt fixed my problem.
anyone know what the cause could be and how to fix it?
Anyone know where I can get a driver for that printer? I checked HP website and they don't make a driver for Fedora -- only MS-Windows and MAC. So how do I send something to that printer which is connected via USB cabel ?

While watching flash films on ..... and other sites everything is fine until I try to switch the film to fullscreen mode. When pressing the fullscreen icon, browser is killed at once. It happens in iceweasel and epiphany as well. I tried flashplayer-mozilla and flashplugin-nonfree from repos and the problem remains the same.

so while searching around, I came across article to install hplip at

I get following error
configure: error: cannot find net-snmp support (or --disable-network-build)
But net-snmp is installed on my system, so, I tried with disable-network-build and tried to get around the problem, the next error I get is

my scanner used to work in lenny, now im using squeeze fresh install.
i intall hplip with synaptic in order to setup my scanner, printer is working, i dont need the fax, but the scanner is not working with xsane.
normal user and sudo see the scanner with
$ scanimage -L

i know my user is in group lp and scanner root cant use the scannner either.
Just upgraded to 9.10 and lost the ability to use my scanner with VueScan. No help at their site or the Avasys Corp. site, where downloads of the "driver" refuse to load due to various conflicts. Has anyone gotten VueScan to work with 9.10 and how on earth did you do it? (Scanner is an Epson Perfection V500 Photo.)

HP Linux Imaging and Printing Then simply do the konsole thing to run the installer, then easy to follow the prompts that appear. View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to install centos 5.4 on a older compaq proliant 6500 server with raid it was previously used for windows server 2003 for several years but management wants it turned into a time clock server that will run linux, obviously there is no smart start software for centos on this model, is there some kind of driver needed, be aware that i only did installations on single drive servers and new servers that take centos right away with new raid adapters compaq raid controller 3200.

But scanning... that's another story. In Ubuntu 9.04 the trick was as simple as installing libsane-extras in Synaptic, but this doesn't work in Ubuntu 9.10! When I try to run XSane, it simply replies that there is no available device...
I've been using a Nikon Coolscan 4000ED on Ubuntu for a couple of years via Vuescan with no problems at all.
The other day I upgraded to 10.10 and Vuescan can no longer see the scanner. So I tried X-Sane and Simplescan and they both say there is no scanner even though it's connected and switched on. So for some reason, Ubuntu 10.10 cannot see the scanner or perhaps the IEEE connection.
I have a mac, but I have a lot of files on my Ubuntu machine, that i'd like to transfer over, but I would like to make sure they are clean.
