I have a HP Officejet 6500 E709a printer, everything works fine except that I cannot print with color. I go to admin, open the config for printer, and print the test page but I get no color. Also, in the properties of the printer I cannot see the level of the ink. It says this info is not provided by the printer.

so while searching around, I came across article to install hplip at

and I tried to install the following hplip version with centos.

Running the configure with following arguments

I get following error
configure: error: cannot find net-snmp support (or --disable-network-build)
But net-snmp is installed on my system, so, I tried with disable-network-build and tried to get around the problem, the next error I get is

configure: error: cannot find libusb support
I just installed an HP Officejet 6200 on a Slackware 12.1 machine. It uses a USB interface. If I am on the machine, I can print to it with no problem. When I am on my Debian or Centos machines, I cannot. I have midified the cupsd.conf file to allow everyone to connect to it but so far have not had any success. Port 631 is open on all machines. I have explicitly added a hosts allow 192.168.0.0/24 line in several portions of the conf file with no luck. If I use the cups interface on any of the machines using localhost:631 as the address, I can not only see the printer I can print to it, but I noticed, I am actually attached to the Slackware machine where the printer is located. Can someone suggest a debugging method to help?

I see references to this issue on various websites and I saw at least one reference to new drivers but alas they were all for windows. I checked the repository and I have the latest and greatest HPLIP. Does this mean I have all of the latest drivers?

after an update to 11.2 (from 11.1), 64 bit, I don't get the printer to work. I reinstalled the driver and checked in cups: it says that the printer is available and waiting for a job. When I send something to the printer, nothing happens. The priont job will be stopped immediately. The printer is properly connected: xsane finds the scanner, that is part of the printer, without a problem. The printer is also ok: I can copy documents, it just works fine.

I have an HP color laser printer and I am looking for a way to print black as black instead of using tri-color. For example If I print a document that has colored text then any black text is printed using the color cartridges rather then using black. I have been surviving by using windows XP in virtualbox but I'm hoping someone can help me with this. I've looked all over then net for a solution but I've found nothing. I remember having similar problems like this with older Macs because of postscript printing and I'm thinking this is the same problem but I don't know how to fix it. I've searched the forums as well but no joy.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using Ubuntu 9.10 64-bit on an Intel i7. I just bought a Canon color ImageClass MF8050cn laser printer and connected it to the network. I let the software pick a driver, but when I print my document goes into a black hole never to be found again. I also have a Mac and a Vista machine which can both connect just fine and print in color. So it's not the printer.
Has anyone successfully made this work? If so, what driver are you using, where do I get it if it's not in Synaptic, and what settings do I use? I checked on the Canon site, but they only support Windows and Mac. Before anyone goes there, I would like to use a non-generic driver for this if possible. I'm at work right now and the printer is at home, so I can't get specifics at the moment.
In 11.3 I used an Epson Stylus Color 600 which worked well enough.
Now I'm quite disappointed that this so called 'best version ever' (11.4) refuses to recognize this printer.
The modules parport, parport_pc, and lp are all loaded. My printer is on and connected, but OpenSuse claims that there is nothing.
Using Squeeze and a Canon Pixma IP4600 Printer. The color on the printed pages used to be true and now it isn't, it still print is color just not the correct colors.I am color deficient or color challenged (what used to be called color blind) which dosen't mean I can't tell the difference between what is on the screen and what is printed It's not the printer as I have tested it with other Linux and a windows system and it's good.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've bought a Film scanner from Aldi, Called a "traveller TV-6500 sf" It comes only with windoze drivers. I have Ubuntu 11.04. All up to date! I have Xsane installed, which works fine with my flatbed scanner. It does not even "see" the film scanner. It's plugged into a usb port(tried several) and lights up, so assume that the hardware is ok.

I am using the screen app, and have set bce to on, and issued the following commands to set my background and foreground color: tput setab 4; clear; tput setaf 7; clear;
This temporarily sets everything properly on my screen. However, when I issue any commands that change or set their own background color (for example, when I issue an "ls" command with colorized output), the background color gets lost for any new output and I have to reissue the commands listed above in order to retrieve my background color.Ideally I'd like to keep my background color when issuing these commands, as it serves as a good way to remind me of what environment I am currently issuing commands in.
I'm trying to install centos 5.4 on a older compaq proliant 6500 server with raid it was previously used for windows server 2003 for several years but management wants it turned into a time clock server that will run linux, obviously there is no smart start software for centos on this model, is there some kind of driver needed, be aware that i only did installations on single drive servers and new servers that take centos right away with new raid adapters compaq raid controller 3200.

I have three computers with wireless and wired connections to a HP Officejet 6500A Plus all-in-one that I purchased a few months ago. Two of the three are running Ubuntu (versions 8.04 and 9.10). By Christmas, I'll be getting a new computer and upgrading to an Ubuntu v. 10.xx or 11.xx. In the first few weeks after I got the 6500, I had no trouble printing (although in 8 years using Linux, I've never been able to scan ...). For the last couple of weeks, however, I've been unable to print. I keep getting messages saying that the printer is not connected. I have re-installed the printer drivers and run hp-setup several times but to no avail. Its latest trick is to start spitting out paper with a line or more of ASCII symbols at a very rapid rate. The third computer is a Windoze 7 box that my son connects to wirelessly but he can no longer print as well.

However, recently when printing, the print job stops after a certain amount of pages ( when printing a multiple page document ). The first page almost always prints immediately. This issue occurs with PDFs, OO Writer documents and OO Spreadsheet documents. The printer status window on the printer shows "printing" and the print manager in Gnome shows printing. Sometimes the printing completes after several minutes. Other times I end up killing the job and powering down the printer.

When i connect the printer, Debian doesn't recognize my printer as the Photosmart B109 printer for unknown reason.
