Ubuntu Multimedia :: Scanner Not Being Detected By U11.04 / Solve This?

Jun 1, 2011

I have an epson stylus sx425w which is a printer/scanner. ubuntu found and installed a driver for me and im able to use the printer fine but for some reason the scanner just isnt working. if i use the simple scan software it says connect a printer and if i press the scan button on the printer and select usb it says connection problem.

i saw a post about this already for ubuntu 10 or 9 and they provided a link for a newly released driver which turned out to be the drive ubuntu installed automatically and that hasnt fixed my problem.

anyone know what the cause could be and how to fix it?

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Scanner Works But Won't Network / Solve This?

Mar 19, 2010

Fresh install of openSuSE 11.2.
Laserjet 1220 multifunction device.

Successfully installed, network driver also installed, XSane shows both local and network scanner on local machine. Scans locally via both drivers.

However, networked scanner is not discovered by machines on local network, using XSane. Did a similar installation a few months ago with openSuSE 11.0, which works fine on the same client machine.

Have tried disabling firewall, but still no joy.

So, questions:

1] Is there anything I have missed?
2] Is anything known to be broken in 11.2?

Ubuntu :: Epson Scanner Not Detected - No Usbfs Module

Mar 7, 2010

Have an Epson Expression 1640 XL A3 scanner (usb & network interface card). Bus=0002 Device=004 its usb ID is 0x04b8 0x0109 I have never been able to connect the scanner using the network - if anybody can advise, I would be very grateful. Quite happy to use this if usb is going to be a problem The scanner has worked very well through the usb and wask working well with 9.04(32bit). I have bought a new machine and did a fresh install of 9.10 (64bit) and the scanner is not detected.

xsane detects my webcams (vl4:/dev/video*)but no scanner Have run sudo xsane-find-scanner - only the webcams are detected Have edited /etc/sane.d/epson2.conf - added scanner usb ID, and added the lines:- usb /dev/usb/scanner0 usb /dev/usbscanner0 as advised in one of the threads in this forum sudo scanimage -L gave this-

WARNING: Unhandled message: interface=org.freedesktop.DBus.Introspectable, path=/, member=Introspect
device `v4l:/dev/video1' is a Noname Creative Labs Webcam Pro Ex virtual device
device `v4l:/dev/video0' is a Noname Logitech QuickCam Pro 4000 virtual device

Do I need to select M for these three modules?

the following had [M] -
USB Printer support
Microtek X6USB scanner support

It looks like the scanner module has not been loaded, and possibly the usbfs yet usb webcam and card readers are accessible. I have tried to keep outputs relevant & short. If I have omitted anything, you would like full results or any other information.

Ubuntu :: Scanner Not Detected By Xsane But Video Card Is?

Using xsane with HP scanjet 3970 scanner. It used to be that when I plugged the scanner in and started the xsane a window would come up asking if I wanted to use my HP scanner or my Hauppauge video card. Well, that window no longer comes up and the Xsane wants to use my video card. When I try to "scan" the program closes and all the windows associated with it disappear.

If i just activate the Proprietary Nvidia driver and reboot, it will hang after writing "Checking battery State [ok]". I have tried to add EDID from Windows partition, and here it hangs at a blank black/grey screen. I have tried hooking up an external display, no output on it either.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Phonon Crashes When Advancing A Track In Amarol / Solve It?

Jun 25, 2010

I have experienced that Phonon will crash occasionally when I advance to the next track in Amarok. After Phonon crashes, Amarok can't play sound. The only remedy appears to be restarting.

I would like to avoid the crashing. I have heard that Phonon and PulseAudio do not work well together. I would like to know how to disable PulseAudio when using Amarok. Any hints?

I am using the Xine backend in Amarok. In the Config Phonon window, I have configured Phonon's hardware preferences to work directly with the sound hardware on the MoBo first. I have deprioritized PulseAudio to the bottom of the hardware list. Unfortunately the "remove" button is grayed out in the Phonon config window.

I am running Ubuntu 9.10 - the Karmic Koala w/ Gnome so I don't want to uninstall PulseAudio.
