View 3 RepliesI'm trying to play a HD rip of a film from dvd. It's in mkv format but it doesn't seem to play properly in oS. I've tried using SMplayer and Kaffeine but neither work well. In SMplayer the picture freezes after about 35s but the sound continues. With Kaffein the picture works but I loose the sound after about 15s. In win xp it plays fine.
CPU usage in oS is around 45-50% so it's not maxing out my cpu.
OS Information
OS: Linux 2.6.34-12-desktop i686

I need the program that I just install it and works. Program should have 2 audio players (1 is good too) and microphone "player" for talking (key OFF/ON).
P.S.: My PC runs Ubuntu 10.04
I'm trying to setup a webcam surveillance system. Zoneminder didn't work for me regardless of how I tried configuring it, so I gave up and have now settled on a more primitive solution. I've currently got 6 cams and looping streamer (webcam screen grabber) I can grab a picture from each camera with about a 1 second interval. The previous picture is overwritten and using javascript to reload the image continuously in a browser I get the desired "movie" effect I'm after. The problem however is that as soon as I start using streamer on more than two cameras at once I run into this little snag:
Quote:
libv4l2: error turning on stream: No space left on device
ioctl: VIDIOC_STREAMON(int=1): No space left on device
I've been searching around and it seems I need to increase my shared memory. I've done that (tried many different values and "solutions") but the problem remains the same.
My setup is as follows.
1.php (refreshes updated grab from camera 1 every second in the browser)
2.php (refreshes updated grab from camera 2 every second in the browser)
3.php (refreshes updated grab from camera 3 every second in the browser)
etc
etc.
Is it possible to use something like php exec to execute the command that starts 'streamer' that grabs the image from the specific webcam (/dev/video1 for 1.php and so forth) when 1.php is opened in the browser. Is this even possible, or am I just dreaming?
I would like to ask if there is any video editing program that can save to uncompressed file formats.

I have Xsane installed, which works fine with my flatbed scanner. It does not even "see" the film scanner. It's plugged into a usb port(tried several) and lights up, so assume that the hardware is ok.

I have a webcam that seems to work well in fedora, but it doesn't seem to allow me to save defaults after making changes to the brightness. If I reboot the machine everything reverts to the original settings. Using v4l2ucp, I am able to increase the exposure, but this setting is lost every time I reboot. For various reasons, it is important that I am able to load a default exposure value after rebooting. My camera is using the STV06xx driver. The lsusb displays the following about this device:
Bus 004 Device 002: ID 046d:08f0 Logitech, Inc. QuickCam Messenger
Is there a program for Ubuntu that converts AVI files to VOB files? This is the only type of file that will burn to a DVD and successfully play on my DVD player. I can use DVD Flick on Windows but I'm sure this can't be the only way. There has to be a way to get VOB files on an Ubuntu operating system.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI wonder if anyone here has succeeded in streaming the video of a local webcam to the internet? Some research has turned up webcam_server Project Home Page but unfortunately it only supports v4l, not v4l2 and is no longer maintained. It seems to be possible with VLC server, but I'm a bit reluctant, because their repo is said to break other things. I still have 11.1 here.

It will work under a generic driver on programs such as Skype, but as soon as I try to use it for web cam sites such as BlogTV, it will say "Webcam required on this site."I have seen similar posts on this and other websites, pointing towards SPCA, but everything I have tried has not worked. When trying SPCA, I tried to do install on the terminal and all that would happen is terminal would respond with: "0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 1 not upgraded."Is there an easier method I am missing here, or is there something am I doing wrong?

When I go into YAST/sound my sound card is shown, and everything works pretty well, however, when I set the volume (other/volume), then exit and come back in, the volume levels are different than when I exited. When I reboot, it sets the master volume to 0%.
