CentOS 5 :: Error: Starting Lm_sensors: No Sensors Found
Aug 9, 2009I recently built a cluster with Centos 5.3 and nodes that used different versions of the w83627ehf sensors chip. On some nodes sensors-detect detected the chip:
Found `Winbond W83627DHG Super IO Sensors' Success!(address 0x290, driver `w83627ehf')
But starting lm_sensors returned the error: Starting lm_sensors: No sensors found!
On other nodes sensors-detect did not detect the chip at all: Found unknown chip with ID 0xb073(logical device B has address 0x290, could be sensors)

Ubuntu :: Lm-sensors Will Not Detect Any Sensors On HP Desktop
Mar 3, 2011I can't for the life of me get the xsensors to work. I installed lm-sensors, the applet and also xsensors.I followed everything on this guide:URl... Went through it more than twice and a couple of restarts. I just can't figure out what's wrong.When I run "sensors" nothing is found. I ran the sensors configuration and it only found one device to add to /etc/modules. Please see the trace below, I would be very grateful if you can help me find the fix for this! The desktop is an HP Pavilion a730n with a Pentium4 processor.

Debian Configuration :: Gnome Sensors-Applet - No Nvidia GPU Temperature
Jun 3, 2010I have Debian Squeeze with Gnome "sensors-applet" installed.I have a Nvidia 7300GT GPU whose Thermal Monitoring(Temperature) is Shown fine on "nvidia-settings" GUI. But ,Sensors Applet in Debian shows only CPU temp and if I install hddtemp,it will show hard disk temperatures.
I ended up rebuilding the package from debian source enabling nvidia support.and it worked(with "DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS="--enable-gui --with-nvidia" Has Any Work Around to show nvidia GPU temperature without rebuilding the package ?PS:Below is a screenshot of nvidia GPU temperature showing in the top panel(of Gnome). sensors-applet_nvidia.png (5.5 KiB) Viewed 518 times
Debian Configuration :: Backported Kernel Has Broken Hardware Sensors?
Aug 4, 2011Having installed the 2.6.32 backport for Lenny, I have suddenly noticed that my Gkrellm doesn't display CPU and MB temperature anymore. Also, the smart sensors are inaccessible. Smartctl cannot access the readings even when run manually in a root terminal. I tried reinstalling lm-sensors and running sensor-detect again but it didn't help. What else needs to be updated to let the backported kernel see the hardware sensors?

OpenSUSE :: GConf Error: Failed To Contact Configuration Server
Jul 26, 2011I developed a java application to organize the articles and notes for what I need for my work reports. The path appear in a jlist component and by clicking on I'd like the file opened. The application works fine in /home side.
In /root side I get this message error:
"GConf Error: Failed to contact configuration server; the most common cause is a missing or misconfigured D-Bus session bus daemon." I work in KDE (OpenSuse 11.4). Why I need a configuration tipically of GNOME?

Jun 22, 2011Now i will try to explain my problem.I just installed fresh 11.04 openSuSe 64bit.After doing all the configuration I rebooted and tried to login.Nothing happened.Googled some things, tried ctrl alt f1 and login as root, also tried to login as root, even changed my root password to be sure.Still, nothing happens, except for the thing that everytime I try to login as root it says authentication failed, but if i type my password bad it says bad password.

Dec 4, 2010I have just recently installed opensuse 11.3 on my computer. I have switched from Ubuntu and have been trying to get things configured similar to what it was. One problem I have encountered is with installing sensors and k10temp, the module needed to monitor my CPU temp. within Linux. I have an AMD sempron and a biostar mcp6p m2+ motherboard. I have installed package "sensors" and have run the sensors-detect and it went through and found k10temp that I would need to load within the kernel for this to work properly. I had this working in Ubuntu, but not sure how to do it in openSuse. I have tried compiling the k10temp source, running modprobe k10temp and received no output, and looked around the conf files, but not sure how to go about doing it?

Feb 24, 2010I have just recently switched from Gnome to KDE in 11.2 since there was some sort of major KDE update that fixed the issues I had been having with KDE. Ever since, I have not been able to get miro to load. I try to run it and all I get is the bouncing logo, then nothing. When I try to run Miro in terminal, I get this:

Jun 30, 2011i been getting errors when trying to use zypper from the console. This happens in 2 pcs, and errors seem to be the same,One has 11.4 + gnome 2, standar installation (with gnome) from 11.4 DVD. The error i get whenever i run something like zypper install xxxyyy.rpm or zypper update is:

I dont know if its related, but the one with gnome 3 constantly gives me (what i think is) a kernel panic when i shut down the system, it happens fast and the text on the screen is not "linear" but spread all over the screen, so i cant read the whole message, but it does say something about glib and corruption.This is actually the first time(s) ibe seen a kernel panic ever since i used ubuntu.
OpenSUSE Install :: 11.3 Running On Samsung Q1EX - Working Configuration - Failed To Get Textmode Console
Sep 4, 2010I needed to load Linux on a Samsung Q1Ex for a project I'm contracting on, and could not for the life of me get anything to run. Turns out that the video card is a chrome relative, and for some reason, almost every distro out there (I usually use debian for this sort of project - ie, no money, but use SLES at my day job) failed to even get to textmode console. Trying several distros, I finally put it out there and used OpenSuse and voila!, vga was working. After that, I got X running, and many hours later had the mouse working. The key to this device is Windows. I ended up parsing through the registry looking for "touch" and found that the software in use on Windows is eGalaxTouch. A quick google brought up their site where I found several Linux drivers. I used the beta mode drivers to get the mouse working. Here is a more detailed breakdown.
Use OpenSuse 11.3 (I used the full blown disc - its is the only distro I could get to boot correctly as the others all used OpenChrome, while OpenSuse seems to use fbdev - note here that installing the unichrome drivers will actually break X and cause you to have to reboot to get away from the mess on the screen). Use eGalaxyTouch drivers. The pdf's included in the download have step-by-step instructions but the big pieces are the setup.sh script and the serio_raw steps (note if you perform a 'hwinfo --bios | more' you can figure out which /dev/input/event* you're using - for me it was event1 and serio4). Note also to choose PS/2 when executing the setup.sh script provided in their download. eGalax_eMPIA Technology Inc. TouchKit Linux Driver Here is my xorg.conf now:

On the video, just stay with the fbdev and you should be good. So far, I've had KDE, Gnome, TWM all running; and now have my EFL apps running! Woohoo! Next piece of the puzzle is to verify sound, but on the face of it, looks like the system recognized it off the bat. And of course one other note. 11.3 is going to make me a convert!
Ubuntu Installation :: USB - Detect And Mount The CD-ROM Failed?
Aug 10, 2010I'm trying to install ubuntu-10.04-server-amd64 from a 2gb usb stick. I used Universal-USB-Installer-v1.7.7 to put the contents of the iso onto the usb disc, the installer boots fine but it always fails at "Detect and mount CD-ROM". Any suggestions? I thought about trying to mount the usb stick (/dev/sdb) to the where the installer is looking for the CD-ROM but I don't really know where that is.

May 27, 2011I had Ubuntu 10.10. Now in the free space remaining in my hard disk, I installed Fedora 15. But unfortunately, Fedora failed to detect ubuntu. Now when I start my computer, grub automatically loads fedora and also doesnt display the boot menu. How can I boot ubuntu and let the grub display a menu of operating system choices?
