I can't for the life of me get the xsensors to work. I installed lm-sensors, the applet and also xsensors.I followed everything on this guide:URl... Went through it more than twice and a couple of restarts. I just can't figure out what's wrong. When I run "sensors" nothing is found. I ran the sensors configuration and it only found one device to add to /etc/modules. Please see the trace below, I would be very grateful if you can help me find the fix for this! The desktop is an HP Pavilion a730n with a Pentium4 processor.

atlast i downloaded 64 bit version of natty. (i m currently using 10.10 32 bit). before i go for a clean install, i wished to test natty (the stable release) by running it from my usb stick. i was able to boot into it and natty identified my wi-fi with a breeze. i wanted to test some configurations that i had customized in maverick. i installed conky in natty and copied the conky script that i used in maverick. i also installed the necessary sensors. now the hitch is the sensors are unable to detect the temperature. is it coz i am running natty from a usb stick or some bug is there in this part ?

Trying to get execigraph to work with aticonfig in conky. The following line works after a fashion, displaying the number & % symbol: Code: ${execi 10 aticonfig --adapter=0 --odgc | grep "GPU load" | cut -c32-34} but the following displays either a static vertical line on the right edge of my conky or nothing at all:
Code: ${execigraph 10 aticonfig --adapter=0 ---odgc | grep "GPU load" | cut -c32-33} I've tried tinkering with default_graph_size, with ""s around the aticonfig etc part, with the -c values in cut, have googled to the point of despair & tried various lines using tail or gawk (I don't have a clue about these, even after trying to read up, so tinkering with the values has been fruitless guesswork) that I found in forums. Nothing works. I think the main problem is that sometimes the result of aticonfig etc is a number between 0 & 99 which execigraph requires but if the gpu load is <10 then the result is a number and the % symbol. But this might be completely wrong because even when the load is >10, there's no graph.

i would like to set up a conky setting at my work so when employees call me for questions they can just give me the info that is visually on the screen from conky that i want instead of having them look for it, i have done some conky in ubuntu , it is very easy , just install it then enter codes in the text editor, and BAM done, now on opensuse looking at this thread Conky - Hardware Monitor it looks ALOT harder, is there a easier way around this big mess of codes and what not.

Said that all the config i find put all the info in one place of the screen, in this example on the right side:
url
or like conky colors where you can put in either side, or other complex examples that use folders with images..that at least i need one day to study all the variables it has...
What i want is something simple, in my black background i dont want images and effects, only white simple text.
My problem is: i want for instance my specs above, my log info in the middle, my music info bellow (above my clock) and in conky config i'm hitting my head in the wall....
For instance if i use my facebook script to appear in the midle how the hell can i put my music info bellow without ruined the facebook in the midle...do i need 2 conky configs?

I've installed Squeeze 2.6.32-5-amd64 on my laptop (Alienware M17X R3, Intel i7 Sandybridge, ATI Technologies Inc Broadway [ATI Mobility Radeon HD 6800 Series])The screen is 17", with maximum resolution of 1920 x 1080. After a default install of the operating system, the maximum resolution I can select is 1280 x 1024.My research so far has suggested that I need to edit the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file and provide xorg with the necessary resolution.
Again, by default, the xorg.conf file is not created. This leads me to believe that xorg is scanning my hardware at startup and providing me with whatever it thinks is appropriate. I tried following these instructions to generate an xorg.conf file. This process created an xorg.conf file under /root/.
When I copy this xorg.conf file to /etc/X11, I get a blank (i.e. black) screen. Deleting this file restores the default resolution 1280 x 1024.This system is dual booting with Windows 7. Under windows I am able to get a 1920 x 1080 resolution, so I know my hardware is up to it.At this stage I have yet to install the drivers for the Radeon graphics card. What are my options regarding configuring xorg to give me a higher screen resolution?

To find the appropriate firmware without knowing the make or brand of your wireless chip, you can use the command:
#fw-detect
But apparently debian package do not offer this useful tool, well, certainly for sidux exclusively.
Is there a package of fw-detect eventually?

I had previously installed lm-sensors and the associated files on my Lattitude 2100 when I was running 8.10 and got a great little bargraph readout thing at the bottom of the screen that helped me monitor system temperatures. Now that I've upgraded to lucid lynx netbook, I can't seem to get the same thing going. I installed the lm-sensors etc. but the applet/readout/display whatever you want to call it, is nowhere to be found.

control my cpu fan speed? It's really loud, and I'm not stressing the CPU at all, but it seems to be running at 110% all the time.
I've tried going through some old posts related to lm-sensors but nothing seems to work.
I'm using an Asus motherboard (M4A88TD-M), an AMD 1075t six-core processor, and I have Ubuntu 10.10 installed. Ive run sensors-detect, followed the onscreen prompts... the output looks like this:
Code:
# sensors-detect revision 5818 (2010-01-18 17:22:07 +0100)
# System: System manufacturer System Product Name
# Board: ASUSTeK Computer INC. M4A88TD-M EVO

I have tried lm-sensors and a few others, firefox just crashed.
Phenom II X6 1090T
MSI-890FXA-GD70 motherboard
Ubuntu 10.10
Senors:
k10temp-pci-00c3
Adapter: PCI adapter
temp1: +0.0C (high = +70.0C)
sensors-detect
Now follows a summary of the probes I have just done. Just press ENTER to continue:
Driver `k10temp' (autoloaded):
* Chip `AMD Family 10h thermal sensors' (confidence: 9)
No modules to load, skipping modules configuration.
Unloading i2c-dev... OK
There is a debugging panel on my motherboard, and I think that that displays the CPU temperature, although I am not sure.

I installed lm_sensors via Synapt & the Sensors Applet on the panel, but that applet shows me an invariable 40C for 2 temperatures - 'CPU' & 'temp1'.Now I know it can't read the CPU temperature (long story, the CPU fan is hard-wired to 6v & there is no temperature feedback...) but it should be able to find a couple of other useful temperatures. The same PC in XP uses Speedfan which indicates plausible temperatures for (I think) Case & Hard Drive. (Temp2 & HD0 in the attached)I wonder what I have failed to do & why I cannot see Case or HD temps in Ubuntu? In terminal, I ran sensors-detect which went OK until the last bit where it said:
"~$ /etc/init.d/module-init-tools start Rather than invoking init scripts through /etc/init.d, use the service(8) utility, e.g. service module-init-tools start...etc" I don't follow that, but I have checked that I have it87 in both /etc/modules & in lib/modules/.../hwmon

I installed Karmic 64-bit on a new Phenom X4 Quad-Core PC. I've replaced the stock CPU cooler with a Cooler Master Hyper TX3, enabled all fan control settings in the BIOS, switched their profiles on silent, enabled the Cool n' Quiet option as well but my CPU fan is still noisy and seem to be running up to the max number of RPM, thus ignoring BIOS specifications. Besides this I can tell there is something wrong with it since even the CPU is on idle or with just the regular browsing, media player operations, PC sometimes freezes or is automatically rebooted .
I installed lm-sensors and went through all the sensors-detect operations (output attached to this post) but it doesn't show anything else but the CPU and HDD temperature which is always 40 Celsius degrees.

I'm running ubuntu 9.10 64 bit on a Dell Latitude E6400 with the following configuration:
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU P8700 @ 2.53GHz, 3MB L2 Cache 1066 MHz
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator x4500HD
4GB RAM
250 GB Hard Drive SATA 7200RPM
I'm experiencing overheating problems, after just 15-20 minutes of minimal use (surfing the internet, not even watching flash vids or any other vids). The same laptop under Windows 7 64 bit stayed really cool.
I've read several posts here and followed this manual: [URL] to try to control the fans (I only installed the lm-sensors and ran the sensors command, I didn't do anything beyond that). Specifically what I did was install lm-sensors (via apt-get), ran sensors-detect which advised me to add the coretemp module to /etc/modules, which I did.
However when running sensors the only information I get is the overall temperature and the temperature of each of the cores.
why I'm not getting fan speed info when running sensors? Also is there a way to find out if more modules needs to be added to /etc/modules?
