OpenSUSE :: GConf Error: Failed To Contact Configuration Server
Jul 26, 2011
I developed a java application to organize the articles and notes for what I need for my work reports. The path appear in a jlist component and by clicking on I'd like the file opened. The application works fine in /home side.
In /root side I get this message error:
"GConf Error: Failed to contact configuration server; the most common cause is a missing or misconfigured D-Bus session bus daemon." I work in KDE (OpenSuse 11.4). Why I need a configuration tipically of GNOME?
i been getting errors when trying to use zypper from the console. This happens in 2 pcs, and errors seem to be the same,One has 11.4 + gnome 2, standar installation (with gnome) from 11.4 DVD. The error i get whenever i run something like zypper install xxxyyy.rpm or zypper update is:
GConf Error: Failed to contact configuration server; the most common cause is a missing or misconfigured D-Bus session bus daemon. See GConf configuration system for information. (Details - 1: Failed to get connection to session: The connection is closed)
I dont know if its related, but the one with gnome 3 constantly gives me (what i think is) a kernel panic when i shut down the system, it happens fast and the text on the screen is not "linear" but spread all over the screen, so i cant read the whole message, but it does say something about glib and corruption. This is actually the first time(s) ibe seen a kernel panic ever since i used ubuntu.
Anyone what this gksu error is about (it repeats it three times)
gksu-2.0.0-1.el5.rf.x86_64.rpm # gksu ls
GConf Error: Failed to contact configuration server; some possible causes are that you need to enable TCP/IP networking for ORBit, or you have stale NFS locks due to a system crash. See [URL] for information. (Details - 1: Failed to get connection to session: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.)
I'm getting a strange error on Ubuntu 10.04 when starting firefox, see output:
Code:
Failed to contact configuration server; some possible causes are that you need to enable TCP/IP networking for ORBit, or you have stale NFS locks due to a system crash. See [URL] for information. (Details - 1: Failed to get connection to session: /bin/dbus-launch terminated abnormally with the following error: EOF in dbus-launch reading address from bus daemon
whenever i do anything as sudo i get GConf Error: Failed to contact configuration server; some possible causes are that you need to enable TCP/IP networking for ORBit, or you have stale NFS locks due to a system crash. See [URL].. for information. (Details - 1: Could not send message to GConf daemon: Connection is closed)
I just installed ubuntu 10.10 x64 It worked okay for awhile, but now everytime I startup I get this error message:
GConf error: Failed to contact configuration server; the most common cause is a missing or misconfigured D-Bus session bus daemon. See http... (Details-1:Server ping error:IDLmg.org/CORBA/CoMM_FAILURE:1.0)
So my desktop is basically worthless (Can't vnc in, windows have no title bar, can't launch anything)
I have just recently switched from Gnome to KDE in 11.2 since there was some sort of major KDE update that fixed the issues I had been having with KDE. Ever since, I have not been able to get miro to load. I try to run it and all I get is the bouncing logo, then nothing. When I try to run Miro in terminal, I get this:
solomon@linux-yz7i:~> miro ERROR:dbus.proxies:Introspect error on :1.150:/org/participatoryculture/dtv/OneTime: dbus.etop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote applicge bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connect PyNotify support disabled on your platform.
And it will sit there for eternity or until I close the terminal window. When I run Miro as root, I get this:
linux-yz7i:/home/solomon # miro Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/bin/miro.real", line 48, in <module> upgrade.upgrade() File "/usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/miro/plat/upgrade.py", line 77, in upgrade if client.dir_exists("/apps/democracy/player") and not client.dir_exists("/apps/miro"):
glib.GError: Failed to contact configuration server; some possible causes are that you need to enable TCP/IP networking for ORBit, or you have stale NFS locks due to a system crash. See GConf configuration system for information. (Details - 1: Failed to get connection to session: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.)
Attempting clean install of ubuntu 9.10 using Flash drive. received the above error message. Have been away for almost a year and have forgotten much of what I thought I had learned. I tried a second download, despite "no errors".
This seems to have just started. I read a .pdf document with evince and I get a whole bunch of messages like the following.GConf Error: Failed to contact configuration server; some possible causes are that you need to enable TCP/IP networking for ORBit, or you have stale NFS locks due to a system crash. See URL... for information. (Details - 1: Server ping error:IDL:omg org/ CORBA/COMM_FAILURE:1.0)What does this mean? why is evince trying to contact a server when I just want to read a document?
Having downloaded 11.4 Gnome, finding it did not install I bought it on DVD from ebay, when trying DVD installation my PC is displaying: There is a problem with the configuration server (/usr/lib/Gconf-sanity- check - 2 exited with status 256, I would like to install this rather then just run it off disk
I'm using FC12 with kde and cannot update the system time using the gui. The error is :Error unable to contact time server. How do i get it to work for the rest of the family who do not want to mess aboutcli mode? This does work from the terminal:ntpdate -u ntp.exnet.com so client software is present and correct leaving me at a loss.
When the RPM runs it come up with this error. How do I install the required dependencies? I have added more repositories, but still there are a few dependencies missing. Is there a zypper/sudo -get or something available? Opensuse 11.1 Gnome
I have just upgraded my openSUSE installation from 11.0 to 11.1 which everything is working great. Kudos to the development team and all those involved! I really like 11.1. One problem I have encountered is I cannot get clusterssh working. It appears to install just fine but whenever I try to execute like I did in 11.0 I get the following error: Connection to server failed -- (version 11.0) No protocol specified at /usr/local/bin/cssh line 1883
I tried to find a version for 11.1, rpm version that is, but no luck. I even download the source from SourceForge and still nada, same error. Not sure what is going on and looking for some assistance cause I really need clusterssh or another means to connect to several other machines to conduct changes.
i have configured ldapserver on rhel4 for creating address book
following are configuration files on ldap server /etc/openldap/slapd.conf include /etc/openldap/schema/core.schema include /etc/openldap/schema/cosine.schema include /etc/openldap/schema/inetorgperson.schema include /etc/openldap/schema/nis.schema
i am able to import this ldif file into database.also when i perform the ldapsearch on this server with command"ldapsearch x W D cn=manager, dc=example, dc =com b dc=example, dc=com" i get correct output.
but when i am trying to search from another client machine, i am getting "error ldap_sasl_bind(SIMPLE): Can't contact LDAP server (-1)"
also when i configured address book on mozilla on server., it is working fine.but not working on another machine.is any configuration is missing on client machine.both ldap server and client are configured on rhel4es without any firewall or selinux.
Subprocess failed. Error: RPM failed: installing package xen-4.0.0_21091_06-0.1.1.x86_64 needs 27MB on the /boot filesystemI seem not to be able to change the size of the /boot, but 11.2 loads okay but not 11.3There only 19MB left from 66 and I can't make it bigger, I hope there is someone thathas seen this. I would like to see some of the update with XEN.
I am currently trying to upgrade over 100 rpms on multiple Red Hat servers. Whenever I try to do a rpm -u /packages/*.rpm i recieve a failed dependencies error on the very first rpm. I know that I can go though each rpm one by one and trace each dependency but that will take forever. Is there a way to skip these errors? I know the -nodeps command for rpm but I dont want to screw something up but running all of these rpms on -nodeps
I recently installed this awesome distribution - Fedora 15 x64 because of the Gnome 3. I love it. But i have problem with adding music library folders to rhythmbox. I' ve been using gconf-editor for that on all debian based distributons i worked until this. I installed gconf-editor 3.0.0-2 but cannot find the entry for rhythmbox player. Can you tell me how to fix this ?
Today i upgraded my system and started getting error when i update, install or remove a package. The error isn't restricted only to one repository so i thing something is wrong with my system.
I get an error from the terminal when I run the operation "compiz --replace"

i am trying to install symantec endpoint on a linux server by this command rpm -ivh sav-1.0.3-8.i386.rpm but it gives me the following error error: unpacking of archive failed on file /opt/Symantec/bin/navdefutil;4ceb8d6b: cpio: mkdir failed - No such file or directory
when I try to update my Debian, I have the following internal error:Error message:Fetch failed: W:Failed to fetch [URL] Unable to find expected entry free/binary-i386/Packages in Meta-index file (malformed Release file?), W:Failed to fetch [URL] Unable to find expected entry free/binary-i386/Packages in Meta-index file (malformed Release file?) , W:Failed to fetch [URL] Unable to find expected entry free/binary-i386/Packages in Meta-index file (malformed Release file?), E:Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
I just installed VB, but I cannot manage it starting.
uname -a output:
Code:
As told in the FAQ on virtualbox.org, I downloaded and run the amd64 version of VB version 3.1.2. (since I have a 64bit CPU) Install worked just fine, but when I'm trying to launch it, I get the following error message:
When I try to run the Online Updates to the system through Yast I get the following errors for each package:

I upgraded a system from 10.3 to 11.4 and I get the following error when trying to run mysql:
Will update MySQL now, if you encounter any problems, please read following file: /usr/share/doc/packages/mysql-community-server/README.SuSE Log files inconsistency, please merge following files manually: /var/lib/mysql/mysqld.log /var/log/mysqld.log
How can I correct this? Mysql will not start so I can not run any of the utilities.
I'm running 11.2 KDE 4.3.5, recently every time I've tried to use the Updater Applet I get this error after choosing to install an update: PackageKit Error internal-error: Installation aborted by user. Then I run YaST to try to manually install the update and get the following error:
Subprocess failed. Error: RPM failed: error: package kwin-4.3.5-0.2.1.i586 is not installed. Really unsure how to fix this but it's only blocking updates/patches, I can download new programs fine.
I get this : Code: [root@Fedora philip]# gedit (gedit:3132): EggSMClient-WARNING **: Failed to connect to the session manager: None of the authentication protocols specified are supported

I now tested it being not root and it's ok:
Code: [philip@Fedora ~]$ gedit [philip@Fedora ~]$
No error when I'm not root. So it's only when I become root and run gedit in terminal I get errors, why?
