OpenSUSE :: Miro In 11.2 KDE - Bouncing Logo Then Nothing - GError: Failed To Contact Configuration Server
Feb 24, 2010
I have just recently switched from Gnome to KDE in 11.2 since there was some sort of major KDE update that fixed the issues I had been having with KDE. Ever since, I have not been able to get miro to load. I try to run it and all I get is the bouncing logo, then nothing. When I try to run Miro in terminal, I get this:
solomon@linux-yz7i:~> miro
ERROR:dbus.proxies:Introspect error on :1.150:/org/participatoryculture/dtv/OneTime: dbus.etop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote applicge bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connect
PyNotify support disabled on your platform.
And it will sit there for eternity or until I close the terminal window. When I run Miro as root, I get this:
linux-yz7i:/home/solomon # miro
Traceback (most recent call last):

Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.)
I developed a java application to organize the articles and notes for what I need for my work reports. The path appear in a jlist component and by clicking on I'd like the file opened. The application works fine in /home side.
In /root side I get this message error:
"GConf Error: Failed to contact configuration server; the most common cause is a missing or misconfigured D-Bus session bus daemon." I work in KDE (OpenSuse 11.4). Why I need a configuration tipically of GNOME?
i been getting errors when trying to use zypper from the console. This happens in 2 pcs, and errors seem to be the same,One has 11.4 + gnome 2, standar installation (with gnome) from 11.4 DVD. The error i get whenever i run something like zypper install xxxyyy.rpm or zypper update is:
GConf Error: Failed to contact configuration server; the most common cause is a missing or misconfigured D-Bus session bus daemon. See GConf configuration system for information. (Details - 1: Failed to get connection to session: The connection is closed)
I dont know if its related, but the one with gnome 3 constantly gives me (what i think is) a kernel panic when i shut down the system, it happens fast and the text on the screen is not "linear" but spread all over the screen, so i cant read the whole message, but it does say something about glib and corruption. This is actually the first time(s) ibe seen a kernel panic ever since i used ubuntu.
This seems to have just started. I read a .pdf document with evince and I get a whole bunch of messages like the following.GConf Error: Failed to contact configuration server; some possible causes are that you need to enable TCP/IP networking for ORBit, or you have stale NFS locks due to a system crash. See URL... for information. (Details - 1: Server ping error:IDL:omg org/ CORBA/COMM_FAILURE:1.0)What does this mean? why is evince trying to contact a server when I just want to read a document?
I'm getting a strange error on Ubuntu 10.04 when starting firefox, see output:
Code:
Failed to contact configuration server; some possible causes are that you need to enable TCP/IP networking for ORBit, or you have stale NFS locks due to a system crash. See [URL] for information. (Details - 1: Failed to get connection to session: /bin/dbus-launch terminated abnormally with the following error: EOF in dbus-launch reading address from bus daemon
whenever i do anything as sudo i get GConf Error: Failed to contact configuration server; some possible causes are that you need to enable TCP/IP networking for ORBit, or you have stale NFS locks due to a system crash. See [URL].. for information. (Details - 1: Could not send message to GConf daemon: Connection is closed)
Anyone what this gksu error is about (it repeats it three times)
gksu-2.0.0-1.el5.rf.x86_64.rpm # gksu ls
GConf Error: Failed to contact configuration server; some possible causes are that you need to enable TCP/IP networking for ORBit, or you have stale NFS locks due to a system crash. I just installed ubuntu 10.10 x64 It worked okay for awhile, but now everytime I startup I get this error message:
GConf error: Failed to contact configuration server; the most common cause is a missing or misconfigured D-Bus session bus daemon. See http... (Details-1:Server ping error:IDLmg.org/CORBA/CoMM_FAILURE:1.0)
So my desktop is basically worthless (Can't vnc in, windows have no title bar, can't launch anything)
Attempting clean install of ubuntu 9.10 using Flash drive. received the above error message. Have been away for almost a year and have forgotten much of what I thought I had learned. I tried a second download, despite "no errors".
I'm having some trouble getting Miro updated. The package in Stable is 1.2.3-2, and I can't see all the online content because I don't have the 2.0 version. The thing is thar actually Miro is in its 3.0.1-2 version! I searched the package and is only found on testing (It's not in backports). I was wondering if I can install a package from testing in stable.
i am using #!CB statler AMD64 which is a 100% Debian squeeze distro on an Asus A52F with 2.6.36-2.dmz.5-liquorix-amd64 #1 ZEN SMP PREEMPT Tue Dec 14 20:40:25 CST 2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux
m using atmailserver which i have configured it as relay server for another domain, the problem arose sometimie when they are sending mails, the mails bouncing with the below error;my server is [URL]

I have 2 icons on my Desktop (Firefox and Thunderbird) on my newly installed openSUSE 11.2, which when I click on them the icon bounces for about 30 seconds, but then stops bouncing and the software doesn't load. I've deinstalled and reinstalled the software to no avail. What causes these icons to bounce but then not load? Is there anyway I can fix this so the software loads normally? I have a working internet connection, so it's not because of the lack of internet, as far as I can tell.

Miro 2.0 (a great podcasting application) was released few days ago. On the website they say that the packaging of Miro for OpenSUSE is maintained by Packman. But unfortunately Packman only provide Miro 1.2.8 and only for OpenSUSE 11.0. Is there a way to get Miro 2.0 for OpenSUSE 11.1?
I just installed the miro internet tv application using yast on my openSUSE 11.2 and I cannot start it.
Running the miro application from console gives me the following output:
nuca@ionpetrache:~> miro PyNotify support disabled on your platform. 2010-05-28 13:51:55,501 INFO Starting up Miro 2010-05-28 13:51:55,502 INFO Version: 2.5.4 2010-05-28 13:51:55,508 INFO OS: Linux 2.6.31.12-0.2-desktop i686 2010-05-28 13:51:55,509 INFO Revision: ssh://wguaraldi@pcf1.pculture.org/var/git/miro - 1e20db82
After some problems using Miro applications I finally start it but I cannot use it because when I wanna download it can't. Also it cannot open the feeds. I think that my problem is related to the fact that I am using proxy for Internet. How can I get the application to work? I have set the proxy settings from yast -> Proxy
I installed miro from PackMan :: Startseite repository with zypper. When I start up miro from terminal, I got below errors: $miro Fatal Python error: pycurl: libcurl link-time version is older than compile-time version ipv6 is sucking wind, so we're switching to ipv4./usr/bin/miro: line 27: 5859 Aborted miro.real "$@" I don't know what's this meaning. My system is openSUSE 11.4 x86_64 KDE 4.6.3.

i wanted to upgrade my ubuntu system to meerkat beta via update manager like i upgraded it the last 5+ times.
a bug showed up that i can recall from updating files previously: some software installtions via update manager triggered the programm nicotine+ (i think is was something like man-lib or man-db that, when called by the installtion programm, would trigger nicotine too). since i can close that nicotine+-window and the installation process isnt bothered any further i didnt mind.
now with this upgrade, i had to close nicotine+ around 5 times since it got triggered together with some of the files that got updated/installed in this upgrade.
and then what happened: GError something about an "unrecognized image file", it concerned a py file that was named "nicotine"...
so i waited for 10 mins and figured out that the update process had stopped. i couldnt resist and logged out, wanting to delete nicotine from my system and to reinitialize the upgrade. well, nothing works since then, grub only lets me choose different kernels which didnt help much as there was no way to startx.
my question is:
how can i reset this upgrade mess or bring this pending upgrade to an end? can i do an upgrade via network, based on the emergency shell that comes up in some kernel-recoverymodes? or should i burn a livecd, boot it and then do what? repair? try another upgrade? delete nicotine?
having 'consumed' ubuntu for years now i still wouldnt know what else to do then posting here.
I have installed openldap on debian lenny as said here [URL]clients" for both ldap server and ldap client on 192.168.1.192. Now I can make normal ldap successfully but I would like to do secure ldap and replication ldap too. "ldap_sasl_bind(SIMPLE): Can't contact LDAP server (-1)" here is the error I got stuck with when I follow this link for replication and ssl/tls part[URL]Then I google to find solution and then try these commands
Now i will try to explain my problem.I just installed fresh 11.04 openSuSe 64bit.After doing all the configuration I rebooted and tried to login.Nothing happened.Googled some things, tried ctrl alt f1 and login as root, also tried to login as root, even changed my root password to be sure.Still, nothing happens, except for the thing that everytime I try to login as root it says authentication failed, but if i type my password bad it says bad password.
Just installed openldap server on a VM CentOS called 'ldapsrv', it works fine, ldapsearch returns all ldap information.
Installed openldap client on another VM CentOS called 'ldapclient1', configured it with most basic configuration, no ssl/tls etc. but ldapsearch returns error:
I am behind a funny firewall, so that may have something to do with this, but since the problem materialized upon update to F14, I am assuming that this has something to do with it as well. (Both connections are on the internal network, so should not invoke the firewall/proxy, so the firewall issue is probably a red herring.)Since the update, neither evolution-mapi nor evolution-exchange (over OWA) are able to access my email. Here is the error given when using evolution-mapi:
Code: Unable to authenticate to Exchange MAPI server: file exchange-mapi-connection.c: line 359 (exchange_mapi_connection_new): assertion `profile != NULL' failed Please enter the MAPI
I needed to load Linux on a Samsung Q1Ex for a project I'm contracting on, and could not for the life of me get anything to run. Turns out that the video card is a chrome relative, and for some reason, almost every distro out there (I usually use debian for this sort of project - ie, no money, but use SLES at my day job) failed to even get to textmode console. Trying several distros, I finally put it out there and used OpenSuse and voila!, vga was working. After that, I got X running, and many hours later had the mouse working. The key to this device is Windows. I ended up parsing through the registry looking for "touch" and found that the software in use on Windows is eGalaxTouch. A quick google brought up their site where I found several Linux drivers. I used the beta mode drivers to get the mouse working. Here is a more detailed breakdown.
Use OpenSuse 11.3 (I used the full blown disc - its is the only distro I could get to boot correctly as the others all used OpenChrome, while OpenSuse seems to use fbdev - note here that installing the unichrome drivers will actually break X and cause you to have to reboot to get away from the mess on the screen). Use eGalaxyTouch drivers. The pdf's included in the download have step-by-step instructions but the big pieces are the setup.sh script and the serio_raw steps (note if you perform a 'hwinfo --bios | more' you can figure out which /dev/input/event* you're using - for me it was event1 and serio4). Note also to choose PS/2 when executing the setup.sh script provided in their download. eGalax_eMPIA Technology Inc. TouchKit Linux Driver Here is my xorg.conf now:
On the video, just stay with the fbdev and you should be good. So far, I've had KDE, Gnome, TWM all running; and now have my EFL apps running! Woohoo! Next piece of the puzzle is to verify sound, but on the face of it, looks like the system recognized it off the bat. And of course one other note. 11.3 is going to make me a convert!
